  4. I hope this thread gets [re]read. My options were to start a new thread, or add to this one: Real quick, my history: I used to be an avid player. Since I was about 9 yrs. old I've played golf, and then I started having major back problems. I will fast forward through nearly all of the details, but will say that I've had just about everything the Dr's can throw at me. ALL of the diagnostic work and PT, which eventually led-up to 3 surgeries….the last surgery, in '08, was the most major, being a laminectomy & fusion at L5-S1. Since then, I've been faithful with all the PT, stretching, and conditioning. I purchased a BowFlex Revolution, and concentrate on stretching & core exercises. I watch what I eat, but I still have a lot of pain. (I have several other levels (of my back) that are not in good shape (ie: herniated)). I feel that I 'hold up my end of the deal', when it comes to diet & exercise/stretching. Even so, there is very much a limit as to what I can do…..and it so happens that golf seems to push that limit…. Following my 'big' surgery, in 2008, my golfing was nonexistent. I hadn't even considered golf again, until just recently. Not long ago, the golf bug bit me (again) big time, and I purchased some Razr x HL's. (I'll cut to the chase): I realize that my swing will not be completely what it was for me, pre-op. The hardware in my back physically will not allow it. I am struggling with my swing, due to range of motion in the shoulders/back/hips. Of course, I only play because I love to golf. To anyone that is familiar with my situation: please suggest a swing (style), or suggest reading/viewing material that I can learn from. I believe I am going to have to use more wrist action to try and 'compensate' for what's lost in my back immobility; but I'd rather learn this definitively from someone that knows, rather than start experimenting on my own. Any constructive advice would be appreciated. Regards,
  5. Zach Johnson had a great finish, and an awesome win!
  6. your 'scenario' (ie: the info. you posted about your past play, break from the game, and now playing again) sounds pretty much like mine, fellow Texan ! I was down around DFW a few weeks ago…humidity was a killer! welcome
  7. The above statement is how I feel. I have been around golf for a large portion my life, and have played for about 15 (non-consecutive) years. Granted, I've been away from the game for a few years, and have only recently got back into the swing of things. I've often heard claims similar to the OP (saying he can drive 300'ish [yds] over & over again), but have only seen it a couple of times. Also, there's a huge difference between hitting 300 yds in the desired direction vs. hitting 300 yds in " some " direction, respectfully. I'm a newbie to the SandTrap, but can say with fair certainty that all of us here would much rather take a tee shot 215 yds in the desired direction, rather than 310 yds in an "unknown route"/divergence. To the OP: I hope your drives really are 300+ yds. Moreover, I hope your drives consistently travel in the direction you desire. The title of your thread is " Why is it unbelievable I can drive 300+ " The reason lies in the responses you've received; and in that claiming you can drive it 300+ yds,, I infer that you [imply that you] can do it consistently, and in desired direction. Maybe it's because I'm new here, but it seems to me that you've deliberately opened this 'can of worms' on yourself. Your claim of distance simply invites people to question you. Since you're new to the game, I guess you do not realize how unique it would be for you to: 1.) be new to the game of golf (and) 2.) drive it 300+ yds. a) consistently b) in desired direction c) with a swing similar to what you posted in video The above is what makes me agree w/ bplewis24.
  8. I recently purchased some Razr x HL's. They are a great improvement over my past set of clubs. While I can not make a claim congruent to the OP, I can say that I am really enjoying these irons; and that I believe they are a great choice for me. These clubs most likely took about 3 shots off my round, but there's certainly no way of knowing for sure…maybe it's simply the "new equipment effect" . Personally, I think Callaway got these ~just right~..
  9. It was a 2.75". Thank the Lord it wasn't a 3.25" !!
  10. Alright, me & my team mates were at the State competition in golf. It was a long par 4, and I hit a decent drive. My second shot was laying about 175 yards from the flag/hole. I reached in my bag, grabbed an 8 iron. The lie of the ball was in a large, flat-bottomed valley, hills immediately all around. This area was still considered fairway…it was kind of like a grass bunker... Anyway, I hit the ball (connected wonderfully!), the ball caught some massive air, and then….then…….then…..it WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE HOLE !!! The shot was beautiful, but the bad part was me swallowing a 3" tee. Back then, I either carried my tee over my ear (like you would a pencil), or sometimes I put it in my mouth. After making that amazing shot, I inhaled, BIG TIME, and the tee went into my throat. It took a little work, but it went on down. I told my mom (after all, I'm still in high school when this happened), and when me and my team returned from State, I went to the doc. A x-ray revealed exactly where (in my body) the tee was... "We would prefer that the tee passed naturally, just be glad it was a wooden tee", said the Doctor. Oh, here's another little directive he gave me: "Now sorry about this, but you are going to have to 'keep an eye' on whether you 'pass' that tee, or not. It could get hung in your intestine, and if that happens, only surgery will get the job done. You will have passed it in about 3 days if all is ok, 'make note of when it arrives' " Bottom line: the tee passed just fine, and the 20 years since then, I've never carried a tee in my mouth !! I Eagled that Par 4, though, and did it at State, no less !! ;)
  11. I've been a long-time lurker, and finally signed up, here on this Forum. Thank you, Forum administrator/moderators for such a great place. Just a little bit of info about me: I live in Texas, and farm & ranch for a living. I don't have a whole lot of extra time to swing the clubs, but love to do it when the opportunity presents itself. Not too far from my local John Deere dealership is a great little 9-hole course and a nice driving range. Often times, when I have to go get machinery parts, I 'swing' by the course/range, unless we are in the middle of harvest or something.. I recently purchased a new set of clubs. I got rid of my ol' Pings, and purchased a set of Callaway Razr X HL's and a Cobra driver & 3 wood.
