Can't do that. The hazard runs into an O.B. fence so there is no where to drop on that side.
-
Interesting, I never thought of it this way. I guess I have been playing this hole wrong for a while, although I've been technically right by re-teeing. Dropping on this hole will likely result in placing the ball which makes the drop that much better. Thanks for the answers everyone.

Personally I feel the stream in front should be a water hazard (yellow stake), but in fact the entire stream is marked red. Makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Although I suppose if you shanked one short in the water you would just take a normal drop behind the hazard as if it were a straight water hazard so it makes no difference. The picture is poorly done, my MS Paint skills aren't what they used to be! The stream in front spans all of 20 yards, probably less than that.

Rought idea of what the hole looks like. Point A is commonly where I enter the hazard, and the point I'm referencing in my OP. Point B is a common miss I've seen as well, short of the green and still in the hazard. Assuming you enter the hazard on that line (entering straight on is a lot easier to determine where to drop), what are your options?

I'm fairly certain I understand the rule well enough to answer this myself, but just to get an outside opinion on it let me paint a picture of the dilemma. My home course has a 220 yard Par 3, stream that runs about 50 yards short of the green and then up the left side. The left side is heavily sloped towards the stream, any miss left will end up in the stream. Question is, if a ball lands in the hazard what are your options? The only two options I see here are playing out of the hazard, which is nearly impossible on this hole, or reteeing and playing your third from the tee box. The hazard extends 10 yards to the left of the stream followed by a boundry fence. I was playing with a member of the course earlier that claims he could drop within 2 club lenghts of where his ball went into the hazard, which typically you can do with a lateral water hazard, except that no matter where he drops it's closer to the hole. He claims if he took a step back between where his ball is in the hazard and the pin (towards the tee box) it was a legal drop. Maybe I'm over thinking this and have been costing myself strokes for a while but I feel any drop is closer to the hole. Thanks in advance

I finally got my new Winn grip in the mail today and installed it. The installation went smoothly, looks and feels like it's on straight. I'm going golfing tomorrow so if my putting is bad I'm going to blame it on my grip not being aligned.

Windows laptop - what do you think of this for general usage?
Motown88 replied to nevets88's topic in The Grill Room
I have an ideapad s300 and it's perfect for web browsing. I don't do any gaming or anything that requires a lot of memory. I'd highly recommend it to you if you can get it for the right price. $450 is a bit much for this computer...I got mine for $300 on a cyber Monday deal. -
What will updating my wedges do?
Motown88 replied to doper35's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I really need to get paid by them, but like I do so often, check out globalgolf.com. They sell used clubs in really good shape, they won't be new but they will be better then the Pinesmeadows you're currently playing. As others have said though, I would suggest studynig up on different short game shots and how to properly execute them. The clubs may not be the issue, but the could be...you never know! -
If you have the grip and supplies it's really cheap. Never seen it for a buck but I have seen $2 or thereabouts before per club.
-
I've regripped a fair share of clubs and am very confident with it, I've just never regripped a putter before. Not that it's expensive, but where I live in South Dakota it ranges from $3-5 per club for labor. That's why I learned how to do it myself!

A 4 and 5 hybrid, and any number hybrid for that matter, replace that numbered iron. They should hit roughly the same distance. I personally don't use hybrids but I know a lot of people who do and they love them. To answer your question in regards to carrying a 3-wood, that is a must have club in my opinion. If you go with the 4 and 5 hybrid set I'd keep the 5-wood in your bag as well. As far as staying with the same brand, despite what my signature says, I have no favorite. My Nike irons just ended up being very cheap when I got them and they hit really well when I tested them out. The wedges were a steal and hit just as well as any high end wedge on the market. I'll admit the Driver and 3-wood were added because they were Nike and I wanted to try something different then Callaway. I've found I like these Nike's better then any callaway clubs I've used in the past.

This seems odd to me. As long as you're not putting yourself in harms way and not holding anyone up who is trying to hit on the range what's the issue? If someone leaves a few balls behind are you allowed to hit those or would that also be frowned upon?

Welcome to the forum...alway snice to see another Michigander around here. Where do you play in MI?
-
Hopefully this works...My work computer sucks so I'm typing this with what I remember from my highschool web design classes! Callaway Diabo Edge 3W I realize that link takes you to the 3W, but save that link and if GlobalGolf gets the 5 wood in you'll be able to check easier. edit: Despite me making that link and copy & pasting it, the link is blocked on my computer! Hopefully it works for you.

Why do want to play something comparable when that one is so nice to you? Check out Globalgolf.com, they sell used clubs in really good shape. If they have it I'd buy it for yourself, if not then start looking into alternatives. Since you're new to the game there is no sense in you going out and buying the newest and greatest club.

Welcome to the forum...that socre isn't horrible for just starting out. From what I've seen with the coworkers I'm teaching is they can't grasp the idea of how to chip, may be similar for you. Keep at it and you'll do well. On a side note, not sure where you're stationed but if they have a base course play there as much as you can. It may not be the nicest course (never been stationed in Japan so I'm not sure the condition of them), but it should be cheap and fairly wide open. Many of the base courses I've played seem to play short and rather easy compared to higher end courses or muni's.

20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
Motown88 replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm not saying this to be a dick, rather to help you gain some respect around here. If I were I'd remove your handicap from your profile and replace it with "??". If you're giving yourself improved lies and taking gimmes that's not a true handicap. I realize it's 25 right now so you're really not that great, but if you lower it in time and people remember you saying you give yourself good lies all the time you may lose a lot of respect. Keep practicing this season and get your swing consistent and then start playing true golf next season and see how well you do. You may surprise yourself at how similar your scores are without improved lies. -
20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
Motown88 replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Me neither...but if a first time golfer can hit 300 yards I'm sure a course like this must exist!!! I've been trying to teach a coworker of mine all summer to golf, he's not even good enough to be worrying about a handicap yet. A double bogey for him is good, that's not really the point of this though. We were playing the other day and the course we play on has a par 3 ranging from 180-190 to the center of the green. Well the tees were back and the pin was in the back of the green causing it to play close to 200. I feel more comftorable using a 5-iron then a 4-iron so I hit my shot to about the center of the green. Not really enough club with a 5-iron, anywho, my friend decides since I used a 5-iron he's good enough to use his. Not only was it one of his best shots I've ever seen it ended up being about 10 yards passed the green. The point of this story is I believe a lot of these fools when they say they can hit the ball 300+, I've seen new golfers do it. But hitting the long ball once isn't "consistently" hitting it that far. -
I don't like round grips for the putter, never used one. The grip I have right now is terrible quality, if it wasn't for that I would never replace it.
-
Thanks for the advice.
-
It does, and that's what worries me. All my other grips line up to make the club square and they're all accurate. I've just never used a grip that has a flat edge like a putter grip.
-
Before I do this myself I thought I'd toss this one out to the Sand Trap Community. Is regripping a putter any different then regripping any other club? And if so what do I need to pay special attention to? I've regripped everything else in my bag and it's time to regrip my horrific looking Yes! putter with a real grip! I'm just a little concerned I may screw it up since I've never attempted to regrip a putter before.

Welcome to the forum. In about a week or so you'll be able to add all those clubs to your signature.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?

Pack of Zero Friction tees. I don't think they have any effect on my game, i just like them! -
Why wouldn't you play a tour ball?
Motown88 replied to SoundandFury's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It may be the greens your playing on. I play on pretty soft greens so my balls usually take one hop and stop. I've played harder courses though and the ball draw back a considerable amount.
