  1. If you believe the New York Times or The Guardian (UK), the offer has not yet been made but is being strongly considered. Articles are from yesterday (11/16) and today (11/17) respectively.
  2. No rush, I appreciate your help!
  3. First of all let me say that if this is too off topic, let me know and I'll start a new thread. My sister is getting married in October and all of the guys are having a golf outing that weekend. I would like to get some cigars for us all to enjoy while we play. I'm not much of a cigar smoker so I thought I'd ask for some advice from the more seasoned smokers out there. I am looking for a mild to medium cigar (we are playing in the early morning) that I can get 15-20 of for approx. $50. Any reccomendations for me to look into? Thanks, I appreciate your help.
  4. I was given a skycaddie and find it very helpful. While I got along just fine using course markings I find gps helpful as there are not very many markings in the rough (which is where I tend to find myself). I think a laser would serve the same purpose but I am not really at the point where I am aiming at flags. I've got more of a get it on the green type of game and for that the front/middle/back yardages provided by gps work just fine.
  5. I use the 6-8 iron all the time as opposed to a lob or sand wedge so long as there are no obstacles between me and the green. I am not yet consistent enough to confidently get a shot up in the air and have it land where I want it. Running the ball up onto the green ensures that at least I am on the green. I'm also in a position where being told that such a shot is 'improper' doesn't bother me because most of by lob shots look pretty improper as well. I say do what works.

  7. I prefer to walk here in the flat mid-south but when I go home to the mountains I need a cart to survive the ups and downs of the terrain. However, I think if I had a push/pull cart the mountains would be walkable. Also, it's hard to justify paying the cart fees when I am able to walk.
  8. - Consistently follow up one good shot with another. - Make sure no shots are so bad that I'm hitting the same club for the next shot. - Relax. - Keep having fun. - Keep improving.

  10. Here is a 2007 link of the best handicaps among professional athletes. There are many baseball and hockey players on the list. Not that getting a good golf swing would be easy for a baseball player, but it obviously can be done.
  11. Just wanted to give some positive remarks for the customer service folks at cynical peak. I gave Scorecard as a gift to my dad and they were very cooperative in providing me with a license in his name. They also emailed me the steps of downloading the correct version and burning it for him since I'm on a mac and he has a pc. All emails were answered in less than 24 hrs and fully answered my questions. I don't have Scorecard just yet but with customer service I don't see how the product won't succeed. So, in addition to all the benefits Scorecard offers over free online programs, $30 buys you real people who know how to answer your questions.

  13. While I don't have a personal problem with people wearing jeans, I don't wear them. One time at the driving range was enough for me to realize that jeans are too hot and just plain uncomfortable to swing in. I think a small part of me also thinks that if I look good I'll play good but I haven't seemed to be able to make that connection.
  14. I play around with almost golf balls and find them to have a pretty accurate ball flight. My only complaint is that after hitting them and then hitting a real golf ball, the real ball feels very heavy and is a bit of a shock to the hands.
  15. While I think I understand your point, I don't really agree with it. First, golf is more than just hitting the ball. You have to actually get it in the hole. Hitting a golf ball 'generally where you aim it' and getting a ball 400 yards onto a green and into the hole are two very different things. Just like making contact with a baseball and actually getting it out of the infield are two very different things. The initial skills required to do many of the sports listed (throw/catch a football, do a cartwheel, snow ski, etc.) are quickly picked up. While I understand that it is extremely difficult to hit a baseball with a bat, I don't think the 'initial learning curve' theory holds water.
