  1. I was playing a round with a friend of mine a my girlfriend's dad this weekend. My friend and I always play closest to the pin for a couple of bucks on all par 3's, and on the one we decided that to win you had to make par. As I said that you had to make par on that hole, my girlfriend's dad told me about the time in his league where he would have won the prize for closest to the pin for that hole (i think a $5 gift certificate) when he stuck his tee shot to 2 feet. The only problem was that he 4 putted from 2 feet and was too embarrassed to move the stick to where his shot landed and write his name because he didn't want anyone to see that he took a double on a par 3 from 2 feet away.
  2. I have this problem all the time, but when annoys me is that it isn't always running through my head, so I'll be standing over a shot and then on the downswing I'll start thinking about it and it just throws everything off for me. I have resorted to listening to either sports radio or comedy before my rounds because none of that will get stuck in my head.
  3. At my local course I saw something pretty awesome. I was walking to the range to warmup, when I saw a guy teeoff with his dog right next to him. The dog would sit about 5 feet away while the owner hit. After he hit, the dog took off after the ball. When it got to the ball, it circled it until his owner got up there (owner was in a cart). After the owner got up to his ball, the dog would sit and wait for him to hit again. I'm assuming this would be incredibly helpful for wayward shots. I'm looking to get a dog in the near future, and I'm thinking of training him or her to do something like this. Obviously it would take a long time, but it would def be worth it

    Eagles!?!?!

This year I decided to break out with eagles. I made some adjustments to my driver that made me a much longer and straighter player off the tee which made a huge difference. I had my first eagle ever last year, although at the time I was quite upset because I thought the ball was lost. Playing on a tough dogleg left par 4, you have to layup at about 250 since there is a ravine in front of the green (although this year I did drive the green on my only attempt, it plays around 320). Hit my hybrid deep and I actually thought I lost the ball so I played a second drive. Went walking around at about the 100 yard marker and couldn't find my ball. I finally spotted something just in front of the OB stakes and found my ball. Of course being so happy I didn't even think to change clubs since I was only 60 yards away. I hit my sand pure and I immediately thought it went really deep (very uphill green so I couldn't see the ball land). Went looking for about 5 minutes behind the green before I decided to take a drop. Chipped onto the green and went to pull the pin to putt and found my original ball. The last round I played was my first tournament (4 man scramble) and my team was filled with 3 non serious golfers (all shoot around 95-100) and me (usually around 80). We were 5 under going into the par 5 17th. I hit a huge drive about 330 (slightly downhill). I pulled my second shot so we didn't use mine, our final ball was about 20 feet short. I calmly walked up after everyone in my group missed the pin by a lot and played the ball a good 15 feet right of the pin. Hit it perfect and watched it roll in the side door to get us to 7 under. The very next hole I hit another huge drive (again around 330) which set us up 75 yards away from the pin. The other 3 guys hit and one guy was about 8 feet left, hole high. I took one look at the green and saw that my ball would bounce left and dropped in for the eagle to get us to 9 under. Everyone in my group said that they were having a great time no matter what, but that it just capped off the day that we finished 2nd overall with a 9 under (including a 29 on the back 9). I can say that while I usually have at least 1 eagle putt per round on my normal course, I don't think that I will ever have that happen again.
  5. I always tee it up on the par 3's. I tee it up so that the ball is just barely above the ground. I'm just getting to the point of working the ball both directions, and by teeing the ball up I feel that I am able to work the ball better. Also, I always carry a broken tee with me just in case there are none on the tee box.

    9 Holes today

Sounds similar to my round 2 days ago. Tried a new grip with the driver and a new putting stroke, and it seemed to work for me. Finished with only 1 fairway out of 7, but hit it where I was aiming for 4 of the other 6 holes. Lost all control of the driver over the final 2 holes. Shot an even par with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys (bogeyed the last due to a horrendous tee shot on a very easy par 4). Hit 6 of 9 greens and made a lot of 10-15 foot putts.
  7. best round of my life today. shot a 76 (previous best was an 80) on a par 71. 39 on the front and 37 on the back. best thing is that the back nine plays about 4 shots harder, and I was really happy shooting 2 over for that side. if i could have gotten the putter moving it could have easily been low 70's (missed about 8 putts inside 10 feet).
  8. how long does it normally take to break in a wedge to the point where it won't cut up a ball like it would brand new? i just got a spin milled vokey (54.10) and i don't want to play any soft ball if it is just going to be cut up with every full shot i take.
  9. Only second time playing since last summer (played once in January when it was really warm). Shot a solid 39 (par 36) on the front nine of my home course. We were still hitting off temporary tee boxes, and I hit a very solid first tee shot (3 wood about 275). It was a great start too the round. Left me with about a 25 yard pitch shot, and I of course duffed it. I just got a new 54.10 spin milled vokey, and after hitting a bad 60 degree wedge I decided to use the vokey on every shot shot from there on out. That worked out like a charm. Too bad I drove the ball poorly and I couldn't hit a good iron shot to save my life. Overall 4 fairways hit, only 3 GIR, but only 15 putts. If anyone is wondering how to get spin on their wedges, get a vokey. The course I played on was quite wet, but I was still generating more spin that I could imagine. On #8 I hit a half shot (about 60 yards) and it spun back 18 feet (this was with an old pro v1 ball). What was even better was that on #7, I flew the green, and with a downhill 20 yard shot I spun back a top flite. I could not believe it.
