  1. I have a massive problem with A: Overswinging and B: Swinging too hard. I think its just a case of trying too hard. I always seem to flush my driver when I take a nice slow backswing and then keep my tempo through my downswing, I can guarentee that if I try to force it say into the wind or on a par 5 Ill either get my body through too quick and therefore slice it or get my hands and arms through too quickly and snap hook it. I know exactly what Ive done yet sometimes ego just gets the better of you, I know when Im swinging well within myself when my arms extend at the correct point on the downswing and my wrists seem to really cock late and rip through the ball. I work really hard at the range on tempo as this is my biggest problem on the course when Im under pressure.
  2. I think I would work on half swinging for a while at the range, dont know if you saw Padraig on sky yesterday (Sat 2nd) but he puts a glove under each armpit to try and keep everything in check. Our range has mirrors at the back of the bays so what I do is get into the correct position at the top of my backswing, hold it there, check it in the mirror to make sure Im on the correct plane etc and havent over swung and then hit the ball, concentrating on shifting my hips out of the way, keeping my right elbow tucked in and keeping a good tempo, Im not really concerned with distance but I pick out a target and use that as a pin. Out of interest where do you play? I've played Cleveland and Seaton Carew, 2 lovely links courses. Hope this helps.
  3. Check my course out, I see most of you guys are in the US. My course has winter rules from mid November till mid March, which means preferred lies in the rough and small artificial mats to be used on the fairways. Greens were sand banded in mid November to add drainage to green sub soil which was becoming stale (didnt drain in winter and rock hard in summer) but apart from frosty days we have been on them all other times. We are also on winter tees while most of the summer tees have been dug up levelled and relaid. Roll on March/April. http://www.lowlaithesgolfclub.co.uk/
  4. 2007 My first year as a member at my club, I wanted to hold my handicap as I didnt think I could. Break 80. Win something. Managed all of the above, 10 actually turned out to be easier to maintain than I thought, double whammy with the next 2, broke 80, which got me runner up in a club comp therefore I won a pro shop voucher. 2008 My second year and this year I want to get down to 5 handicap. Beat my best score in a major club competition or medal (78) Actually win a major club competition and get my name on one of the roll of honour boards.
  5. I am an IT technician, I travel around my district looking after my companies customers, its a pretty flexible job and this gives me a lot of spare afternoon time to play golf.
