  1. Gotta think it hit a tree or something.
  2. Tiger almost just aced the par 3 6th (15th). Hit the hole.
  3. Tiger and Rory both lighting it up. Both 5-under through 10. Is this going to be another 20-under week?
  4. Watching this live on PGAtour.com. So I guess the reason why they won't show Tiger or any "marquee" groups is some sort of agreement with Golf Channel who will broadcast later?
  5. Well a couple reasons, I'm practicing in my backyard into a net and hitting off St. Augustine grass is pretty awful. It hates to be mowed short, plus my yard starts to look like a warzone after awhile.
  6. Thanks for the feedback. I'll try working on a steeper backswing. I agree with the feeling of getting jammed at impact - are there drills I could practice to improve this? I'm also thinking after watching these videos again that my backswing is too long. I don't think there's a reason I need to reach parallel; it obviously isn't helping my distance (currently about 240 including roll) and I think it is one cause of my problems with inconsistent center-face contact and squaring the clubhead at impact.
  7. This thread got me thinking, so I broke out a net I usually use for softball hitting practice. I've been hitting into the net in the backyard for a few days now, and I really see the difference in how you think about the swing. Without being distracted by ball flight I am much more in tune with how contact felt, how the club face felt at impact, where on the club face contact was made, and even initial trajectory off the club. I struggle with center-face contact with my driver, and net practice seems really helpful in starting to correct this. When hitting irons off the grass into the net I am now focused more on making ball-first contact. Went out to the range today and I definitely saw a difference in my ball striking and accuracy. There's a reason why baseball players practice so much in batting cages - it isn't about where the ball goes - it's all about good contact.
  8. So I was out after dark, it was a warm night (about 100 degrees today) and a slight breeze. My shots with the driver looked like Tim Wakefield knuckleballs. Weird dips, dives, side-to-side wobbles, it was crazy. But even weirder was that ball flight from irons and wedges was perfectly normal. The range balls were old and really beat up, some the markings were almost completely worn off and dimples seemed rounded off. My theory - Lower spin coming off the driver created the knuckleball effect that was exacerbated by breeze, updrafts, etc...and higher spin off irons/wedges stabilized ball flight. Does this sound plausible? Has anyone ever had this happen?
  9. Of course hitting off grass is ideal, but I want to hit into a net in my backyard and I have grass that can't be mowed short (St. Augustine). So I want to make a mat to hit from, but am I risking problems with my swing, ball contact, etc., or would the extra daily practice outweigh any detriments from hitting off the mat?
  10. Just think if Tiger's two lip-outs would have went in, we'd be in a playoff right now.
  11. Yeah, the claims they make in these new ads are odd considering that they are also marketing their "Velocity" ball at the same time.
  12. Bluebonnet Country golf course...I've played here six times in July and August of this year and I love this course. It is really in good shape right now, I know it has a bit of a checkered history but man this course has a fun layout.
  13. I agree with Rusty, try a shorter club off the tee. I like going to my 5 wood or 21 degree hybrid when the driver goes haywire. Swing easy, you are probably trying to kill it. Shorten your backswing and try to swing with 60% effort than what you do now. Watch a lot of good swings in slow mo and get a sense of where all the body parts should be during the swing, and when. Read the "Swing Thoughts" threads on this site. Then practice, practice, practice. Video your swing (try Swing Reader for iphone) and post your swing in the My Swings section. Also consider the age of your clubs, if they are old, you may benefit from getting fit for new equipment that will be more forgiving. My new 5 wood has got to be the easiest club I have ever hit.
  14. I've been Playing Golf for: 7 years, starting again after a 2 year layoff. My current handicap index or average score is: 17 My typical ball flight is: 1 straight for every 2 pulls and 3 slices The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slice, pull, heel hits. Hi all. My driving is all over the place and any help will be appreciated. I hit one straight drive for every 2 dead pulls (it rarely hooks), and 3 slices (starts straight, slices right). I also struggle with center-face contact, my tendency is to hit off the heel. I uploaded two decent swings and one slice. Hopefully someone can see something that might be the cause of my inconsistency. Are my hips sliding too much? Am I standing too close to the ball at address? Feet too wide? Thanks for any input. Videos: This first one was pretty straight Face on, fairly straight: This next one was a slice. From what I can tell it was entirely due to the face being open at contact, right?
  15. Hey guys I'm new here and thought I'd weigh in on something that has helped so far. I recently started the dreaded heel hit habit as well (which is how I found this thread). For me it seems like it happens when my arms and upper body get too involved too quickly, which causes me to start casting the club and reaching outward. As a result, standing further from the ball really didn't help me much because the root problem was still there, only now I had to reach FURTHER causing more miss hits, off balance swings, etc. Yesterday I think I found the cure....I started splaying my front foot out toward the target just a little bit. This helps me to use my legs/hips to trigger the downswing, helps me get my hips to turn through faster, and helps facilitate having my lower body drive the swing. The lower body drives the bus, and when the hips lead, the arms naturally come through closer to the body. Consequently I stop casting the club outward and hit more on the center of the club face. I also feel more in control and able to put more power into the ball. Maybe try that if standing further from the ball hasn't worked - splay your front foot out just a touch toward the target, and if you already do this, splay a touch more.
