Is the Golf Equipment Business one big scam?
Fromthecoast replied to Rick Martin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
For instance, what is the difference between the Callaway Diablo Edge and the Razr X. They look different but apparently perform very similar and have very close to identical MPF scores. Makes me wonder if there is any difference in the Razr X HL besides looks. -
Right now it is my 42* cleveland niblick. I use it probably more than any club. 130 and in. Safety shots, layups, and as long as there is nothing between me and the green for chipping and bump and run.

Is the Golf Equipment Business one big scam?
Fromthecoast replied to Rick Martin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think it is a good thing for people who want to get good deals on mainstream or name brand equipment. As long as you do not have to have the latest model, you can just wait and buy something that is still factory new but has been out for a year or two and it will be way less in price than it was originally. They have to do that in order to make way for the newer models, so as long as they keep pushing new equipment every year, they have to blowout what is left over from the latest and greatest of last year or the year before. -
Long Iron Replacement? Really?
Fromthecoast replied to Aging Boomer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm far from a consistent ball striker but I had more success with a 3-5 iron than I have had with a hybrid of the same loft. I also see a lot of people offering comments and statements that don't always indicate that hybrids are that easy to hit. Some people seem to really love them, but others seem to have as bad of luck with them as a fairway wood. -
Cleveland CG-16 Black Pearl Iron Set 5-PW Graphite Shafts

SOLD Cleveland CG-16 Black Pearl Iron Set 5-PW with Cleveland ActionLite 55 graphite shafts. I've had these for less than a month. These just aren't the right clubs for me. I was drawn in by the look and the allure of graphite shafts, but I'm just not comfortable with them and they are probably meant for someone a little better than someone just getting back into golf, or really getting into golf for the first time. Overall they are in great shape like you would expect for new clubs. I haven't played a round with them yet, only brought to a few range sessions. The black pearl finish wears pretty quickly on the face of the iron, but that is well known. + $15 shipping. My loss is your gain. -
For me, I hit the 15* 3w just as bad as my driver. I think a lot of my problem is not hitting the club consistently, and the longer length of a driver or wood just makes the issue even worse. I would probably be much better off with a much shorter driver shaft length, but so far I have been unwilling to experiment. I'm just getting back into golf, but I'm planning on mostly hitting 5-PW as much as possible, although I will keep a driver and a 4H in the bag.

Cleveland CG Black Wedges
Fromthecoast replied to Fromthecoast's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My PW is a 44 and I picked up a used 56* 588 (cast) Cleveland. I'm considering 50 as I don't want to many wedges in the bag to start with. -
Cleveland CG Black Wedges

I'm looking to add a 48 or 50 degree wedge and I was taking a look at them, not sure I wanted to go to a blade style wedge at that point yet. -
Cleveland CG Black Wedges

There is an actual line of clubs called CG Black. Drivers, irons, and wedges. Titanium face undercut cavity backs even in the wedges. I think they are relatively new. -
Does anyone have any feedback or info on the Cleveland CG Black Wedges? I searched here and didn't find much and really didn't turn up a lot of information though a good search. Thinking of giving them a go. Maybe not for a full wedge set, but potentially for my 48 and or 52 wedge. My pitching wedge is 44* so I could use some help bridging the gap to SW.

Thanks for setting me straight. I didn't realize the whole family was getting in on the act!

Game "De"provement Irons, Internet Mumbo Jumbo, Or Just Blind Luck?
Fromthecoast replied to Tom Shanks's topic in Golf Talk
I'm curious about this as well. I doubt that someone who only plays occassionally needs players clubs or even blades, but I can see how a better player would want more feel. For those golfers who never plan on trying to work the ball, I wonder if anything other than GI irons make sense. If you aren't trying to work a fade, draw, etc. is there any point to blades or players irons? -
Hope so. So far I really like the look and feel of the clubs. I hope I don't regret not going with SGI clubs, but these seem to offer a lot of help at least according to the reviews. I didn't care for some of the looks of the SGI clubs. Lots of shine and flash, like I was playing golf with a set of chrome wheels.

Too much in a good way that is. This is good stuff!

This must be some kind of school project or something. These threads are just too much.

With some of the deals that I have found lately I don't think clones make a lot of sense financially if you are flexible in what you want. For example in the last week I found the following: A brand new nike sq machspeed driver for $50 and Callaway diablo irons in graphite or $220 shipped, and a cleveland classic 2 for $38. All shipped. On gigagolf.com a driver runs around $100 and the cheapest graphite irons are around $150. Their putters run around $25. Totaled up you are looking at not much price difference and I can find reviews on all the name brand items to get a better understanding of how they might fit my game. Not to mention that I can demo them at a store. It's too hard to find feedback on clones and they have little to no resale value. In the long run, spending $33 more on the front dnd probably ends up costing less in the long run, especially if I sell my clubs. You also have to constantly explain your clubs, who makes them and what they are supposed to work like.

I can't be reasoned with when something I get for free only performs 99.7% as well as something else I paid full value for! I mean is this 'Merica or what? Some kind of communist scheme if you ask me!

David, how hard was that to build? I'm on my phone so I can't tell if that is real turf but it appears to be. I'd love to do something similar for my son and I to use.
