  1. I shot 83. Front nine - 44 (three penalty shots and a 3 putt), back nine - 39 (which is only 3 over. 3 putted twice! aagh!). Overall very happy - hit 11 greens in regulation. Been working on steady head/flat left wrist/maintaining the right hand flying wedge and I'm seeing a HUGE improvement in my ball striking. I've never hit my irons so consistently solid. Need to get those putts in the 30-40 foot range a lot closer though.
  2. Ping B60 for most of my golfing career but changed recently to a Ping Anser 5 milled and loving it! Great weight and love the feel/feedback.
  3. Ah, Sophia Loren....and no augmentation in those days!
  4. I would suggest that Senior is an anomaly, and is highly adapted and skilled at getting himself into the correct position where it matters - through the hitting area. But as it's been said elsewhere by the 5SK guys - the majority of proficient golfers move their heads very little throughout the swing. During the swing the club travels a large distance but the ball is only on the club for a tiny proportion of that - but that's the only place it has to be right. I really think Eric et al have taken the elements of good ball striking down to it's very essence and made it as simple and understandable as it possibly could be in order to give the golfer the best chance to be in the right place at impact. On page 157 of the book "The Swing Factory" there's a gallery showing a number of tour pros just after impact and they are all in identical positions i.e. weight clearly forward, steady head and flat left wrist/hands leading. It's certainly possible to hit a golf ball without these elements but not successfully or with any predictability or consistency which is what we are all after.
  5. Further evidence (if any were needed). Also reinforces the fact that "feel 'aint real"! A nice quote from Lee Trevino as well. http://samquirke.co.uk/wordpress/?p=68
  6. Love the look of the 3 wood and irons. I'll be replacing mine this year and was considering i20s irons but the G25s will definitely be on the shortlist. Credit to Ping for the functional no nonsense finish of the woods/hybrids, A brave move in todays market. Can't wait until they're released in the UK
  7. True. But stick them on ebay without closeup 'photos and at a low price and some poor soul is gonna get stung. What made it obvious to me was the sloppy paintwork on the Mizuno emblem.
  8. I'll be changing my irons this coming year and have hit the i15's and really liked them. I can't access an i20 demo at the moment. The question I have is - is there anyone here who has gone from i15s to i20s and has found that the benefits, other than the obvious cosmetics, are worth the change? thanks
  9. These are pure gold! I think my favourite is the first one of Snead. It just exudes grace and poise.
  10. Love this thread. The first video from Dana has helped me sort out some really horrible pull hooks I was hitting on Monday.
  11. Thanks Erik, central would be about right. I really enjoyed your article and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. It brought back fond memories of playing a 36 hole competition over the Jubilee and New courses some years ago with my all time best round over the latter. St Andrews is such a special place.
  12. Greeting fellow Sand Trappers I've been playing this great game for around 25 years and my home course is a classic links in the north of Scotland. I'm getting back into golf this year after a lengthy lay off and am working hard on getting back down to single figure handicap. I found this site about 6 months ago when I began researching stack and tilt after deciding enough was enough after hitting the ground 6 inches behind the ball on yet another iron shot - you guessed it - "get behind the ball, flat shoulder turn, keep the right knee flexed, rotate the right hand over the left through impact......." All I can say is thank goodness for google and this site! I've learned more about the golf swing/ball flight laws here in 6 months than I had in the previous 294! Between studying the S&T; book, the wealth of information on this site and progressing to the principles of 5SK as demonstrated by Erik in the excellent video drills, I'm amazed and excited about the speed of improvement. I can't help but think a little about what might have been if I'd had this information all those years ago! However, I'm more excited about my future improvement. During the last few rounds I have experienced that elusive, seductive and unmistakable feel of ball compression coupled with having some influence over shot shape. It feels like playing "real" golf. Still a long way to go but there always will be with this game. This is undoubtedly the most exciting and progressive golf site there is and I have been so impressed with how freely and generously advice and information is shared. May this site continue to keep people playing and save many a set of clubs from being consigned to ebay!
