2. At the range last night I hit an old Cobra L5V with a 50g Diamana R flex shaft. I slowed my swing down a bit and was hitting the ball extremely straight. I'm tempted to go with the DI-5R. It's a $200 risk, so I'd like ANY INPUT AT ALL here.
3. Currently I'm using a Cobra Amp Cell set on 10.5* Draw with a NS Pro Regio Formula M Stiff flex. Nice feel to it, rather nice trajectory though I can balloon it at times. Usually hit it with a slight fade, but for some reason it will turn into a slice that can at least get me into trouble, and persist for the better part of a round. Swing speed of 93 mph. Will generally hit it about 230 or so. Long drives can push it out a bit, to quite a bit further. Hit one a bit over 300 yards on a hole that had a long run out. Bought a Bio Cell+ with a stiff, Matrix Red Tie. Have The White Tie in a firm in my hybrids and am rather pleased, so was thinking the stiff would be okay in my driver. Dead as a board, very low trajectory, and definite slice. I had a Fujikura Fuel 65g shaft from my Amp Cell and that brought up the trajectory but there is still too much fade/slice. I thought about putting in a Regio just like my Amp Cell, but after reading about the Tour AD DI-6, perhaps for just a bit more, it might be an option. I just hit a demo AD MT-6 in a stiff and that was too stiff. My swing speed of 93 would work for the SR. Or the DI-5 in R1 flex. At 61y.o. My swing speed isn't going to go up. And I'm using 950GH HT irons in regular flex that I hard-stepped once when installing them. Very happy with those. I just installed a SR flex Aldila shaft into a Cobra Baffler 6H and love the trajectory and feel, good for about 165 yards. So there you go. That should be enough info. SR in the Tour AD DI-6 or R1 in the Tour AD DI-5? Or, open the can of worms and give me other suggestions for a high trajectory, good feel, low spin, long hitting shaft.
4. My putting is a strong point of my game. And it is still improving. But knowing when I am making poor contact may assist me in my progress. Everybody says the difference in feel is noticeable. Worth a try.
5. At my level, mid to high 70's, I doubt that it matters a lot. Perhaps for anyone?? The triangular, 3 prong head does look like it minimizes contact. It's a cheap investment, and by using white shorts and pink longs, I have consistency when looking for my tee. It keeps my routine familiar, simple, consistent.
6. Thanks. Yeah, from what I can tell, it is the ONLY shaft that would work. The only actual installs on Cameron putters I have seen though were not OTH. I've inquired with one supplier, so hopefully I will hear back from them early next week. I'll use a heat gun to remove the original shaft, removing it with no damage. so if things don't work out, I can always reinstall it. But the And their supporters are up in arms wanting them to kick I use from GolfSmith is an overnight cure epoxy and anytime I have subsequently pulled a shaft, it has required a longer heating process. So a reinstall might be problematic when pulling the new shaft.
7. I bought some SpeedBlades a few months back and love them. But rather than Stiff flex soft-stepped NS Pro 950GH shafts I put in Regular flex hard-stepped NS Pro 950 GH HT shafts. These work great for me. Broke 80 for the first time after using them a couple of months and do so rather frequently now.
8. Went for Zero Friction tees but no luck. So bought some substitutes, a couple of golf shirts, and a Callaway X2 Hot+ hat.
9. Am considering putting this shaft in my Newport 1.5. Have never changed a putter shaft, so wanted to make sure that the .395" OTH shaft would fit my Newport. Any other feedback on this change, either expectations or ibstallation wise, would be aporeciated.
10. In the US I guess I felt a bit more connected to the game. And I feel connected to the courses I play the most, trying to maintain them as much as possible. But here the combination of almost no effort to repair ball marks, local rules placing OB markers SOLELY to increase profits by speeding up play thus allowing yet more golfers into the course, and OB from the tee areas consistently 'requiring' dropping from a drop zone and playing 4 (something dedicated golfers ignore unless in a club tournament), well, it gets frustrating. So rather than spend the time repairing several ball marks if a better line exists from that perspective only, I move the ball. And repair those marks at my leisure while waiting my turn. So I am not wandering around moving the ball as it suits me and I get your point there.
11. Sorry, but that evolved into a rant due to inconsiderate golfers. I move my ball if a minor change of distance results in a much cleaner line. I generally repair the marks anyway, but not with the degree of care I would take with a mark my ball made that was a couple of inches along my line. (A minor bump so early in the roll increases the error.) As for not moving the ball, if it is a sprinkler head where I want my ball to pass over, that's my problem.
12. Yes, but many of the rules are simply to provide consistent situations on the course for professionals. If I have a 30' putt and there are several ball marks on the first few feet of my putt that can be avoided by moving my ball 6" to one side, leaving me with the same putt, the ball gets moved. If my ball is near the edge of the green and a sprinkler head me requires me to use a wedge rather than my desired putter, and the same 6" takes the sprinkler out of play, I do NOT move the ball. For a pro, no. And there are many situations just like this. Golf can be difficult, but it shouldn't be an exercise in blind, unquestioning acceptance of the rules to the point of bring anal retentive.
13. This is just conjecture mixed with wishful thinking, but I think it's possible. As others have said, his putting needs to get back on track, but that should be doable in spite of his injuries. Injuries are a big question though when it comes to other aspects of his game. But I'm just not sure the desire, fire and most of all the confidence, is still there. Maybe it is the bad publicity. Or to a degree resting on his laurels. So it's pissible, but questionable.
14. the score has the same level of importance to me. Only if I were in a tournament would I try to follow the rules. In such a case, I can see the need to cover all situations. Otherwise, this is not something that even remotely affects my play.
15. It may be against the rules, but when I play, it's not for money, so there are generally 15, at times 16, clubs in the bag. I just put a new shaft in my 3W and so I took it with me today. For some reason I was having trouble making space, (I use tubes in my compartments), so I pulled out the 5H leaving 15 clubs. Decided at that point I was not going to use my 4H, which actually came back to nip me a bit. You might as well limit the number of tees. Playing on Japanese courses, the one today with two postage stamp size greens on each hole, I have enough to deal with regarding the weird course rules without worrying about a club that I don't use bring in my bag. All this being said, if I was in a tournament, yeah, I'd only carry 14.
16. Hit my gap about 105 and my sand 95. It's usually much easier for me to get a bit more distance than it is to swing less than with a full swing. That's why I have a PW, AW, SW, 58* and 62* wedge.
17. Very nice pic. There are signs on most of the courses I play warning on this one kind of snake here in Japan that is poisonous, but I've never seen one. Usually there is no time to look for a list ball and the areas drop off VERY steeply as a general rule. But I have found a few places to go look when players back up. Incredibly easy to do more than walk in and walk out in less than 5 minutes and have a couple dozen or more balls. But I am always on the lookout for the snakes.
18. Anybody with this problem have a solution? I use a back brace and a ping pong ball cut in half and filled with fiberglass resin. If I put the ball under a Lycra undershirt and the back brace over it, it works fine so far as the hernia goes. But two problems still exist.... First, this works fine except when it gets hot....and very humid as it does here in Japan. With a outer shirt to cover the brace, it gets hot. Second, the low riding back brace interferes with the waistband of my paints. The current solution is to wear suspenders between the shirts. Overall, this us working, but although it is very effective, it is still sone what uncomfortable and hot. So any suggestions?
19. Baby powder did the trick fine for me. I used to have the problem but I lost a little weight and haven't been bothered by it again.
20. Not here in Japan. OB off the tee isn't played again.. Gotta' move, gotta' get more players on the course. So there is a drop zone, usually well past what 90% of the players could hope to drive it, where you are playing 4. But can tee it up if you want. And OB markers are everywhere, with most of them solely to speed up play. If they want to speed up play, stop using carts that follow a buried cable and allow players to drive to their balls. The most stupid rule? Most anything that is a course rule here in Japan.
21. The question wasn't 'fair' but 'stupid'
22. Me? I think it's a personal choice. It's much the same as if you asked if others carried a condom. Personally, and since you are inquiring, I think it is whack. Don't know how the law works but if somebody came at you with a club and you shot them, it seems possibly extreme. Excessive force. But then you are in Texas so who knows. Are violent encounters common on golf courses? That being said, 'nuff said. Not going o follow this thread. I want golf to take me away from problems.
23. Thanks. It was a great trip. I've never been big on scenery when playing but this was actually so distracting it affected my game. The caddies served as 'scenery' also.
24. This fall I'm planning a golf outing of about 10 days somewhere in Asia. From the pics I just posted of Nirwana in Bali, you can see why this course is on my list. For this trip I would depend about 5,days at the New Kuta course playing and taking lessons, then move on to Nirwana just to play another 2-3 rounds. This is a potentially great trip, but I thought I would ask fir other suggestions for two reasons....... First, although my first trip to Bali was trouble-free, the potential for terrorism was higher than anywhere I have ever visited, so would line to reduce that risk if possible. Second, given the extensive cumulative experience on this site, there might be an even more fantastic trip possible than the one I have planned. I want to play very nice courses, reasonably challenging, have access to instruction, adequate practice facilities for fairway approaches, 120 yards and in, chipping and bunkers. Of course, in Asia, though I guess I would consider elsewhere if there were reasons. Currently, I am looking at a price of about $3-3.5K for the entire trip to Bali. So, any suggestions, comments or advice?
25. This course was rated one of the top 100 courses by Golf Digest. Designed by Greg Norman, it's an absolutely fantastic course. This par 3 plays about 180 yards. The temple in the left background is quite famous. This is the hole before the first par 3 above. Unlike a lot of the courses I play here in Japan, the fairway bunkers are quite often in play regardless of which tees you play from. Here the ideal shot is to carry the right bunker, but if you slice it... Then you could stay left but if you hit it long..... Or thread the needle between them. Regardless, there is an over-grown stream cutting across the fairway in front of the green. Another instance of a stream protecting the green. My playing partner here hit it a bit short/right whereas I have an easier shot another 20 yards slightly to the left.
