Short story...My son does not have a handicap yet but we are establishing one for him, so my question is what is the max score he can take on a hole for ESC purposes? Not sure if he would fall into the 30-39 (highest 9) range or the over 40 (highest 10) range. Or since he does not have a handicap yet would I just count every stroke and post until he gets handicap?

PING 2015 Newport Cup Prediction Contest! Win a G30 Driver!
SCfanatic35 replied to iacas's topic in Golf Talk
I want Turbulators to help me drive it long with the PING G30 Driver! I predict that the Red (West Coast Team) will win the 2015 Newport Cup by a score of 34.5 to 19.5 . The MVP will be @Golfingdad with 12 points won. -
Here is the complete setup. So far everything works perfectly. The NetReturn net brings the ball right back to you, assuming you make a good shot. No need for extra balls unless I shank one into the side barrier, which my son did on his first shot. I'm glad I bought it because it probably would have put a hole in the dry wall. Haven't used the tees yet, you can see the tee holder on the right side of the mat. The TrueStrike definitely feels better than a traditional mat. When my back is feeling better I will put it through its paces and report back more about it. The only thing I didn't account for is how far I would need to stand back from the net when hitting all of my clubs. Wife is going to lose more driveway space than I told her. Oh well, I guess it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Just curious why the picture I uploaded isn't visible until you download it? I see everyone else's photos without having to do that. What gives?

Since I promised you all a picture here is the first one. The net is the only thing that is fully setup. The side barriers are hanging but haven't attached them all the way yet. The TrueStrike mat is absent in the picture because the UPS dude apparently can't count. He dropped off only 1 of the 2 packages which happened to be the net, and left the mat on his truck. So it will hopefully be delivered tomorrow. So I guess the project is only 1/3 of the way completed. I will send the rest tomorrow when the whole thing is completely setup.
-
I will when its setup. The UPS website says its out for delivery. I feel like a kid waiting for christmas. Everytime I hear a truck go by I look out window to see if its the delivery guy. Garage is sort of cleaned out and waiting for its new addition.

The side barriers and sandbags got delivered on Friday and the mat and net are supposed to be coming tomorrow. Will post picture when it's all setup.

He will be excited to hear that. I know he has the legitimate potential to be great at golf if he would put in the time. His swing is decent for only playing 2-3 times a year. We went to Belmont yesterday and he hit 3 buckets of balls. He got steadily better throughout the day. Hopefully being able to hit in the garage and with a few more lessons he will get it down.

14 Balls in one day? Jeez...were you trying to be Tin Cup or something? That's more than a rough day. I usually start with a dozen or so balls good balls. When it dwindles to 5 or 6 I know it's time to go get another dozen. I can usually make a dozen balls last about 20 rounds or so. My usual rate seems 1 ball every 2-3 rounds if I'm playing a lot. When I take a break from golf I expect to lose more because of my inconsistent swing.

It will definitely make it easier to film myself hitting and not as embarrassing as taking my camera and tripod to the club. I always find it funny that most of the people I have golfed with always want to be better but then never do anything to get better. Their actions show that they are content with never being better than a 14 handicap. Some of them actually are confused why I continue to get occasional lessons. It's because I want to be a scratch golfer someday, will it ever happen...maybe not, but I am certainly going to try. I have the short game to do it, just need the long game to go with it. No idea why I am rambling. Anyways, Is the whole family included for the same price at evolvr?

I couldn't resist anymore, after doing a lot of investigating I pulled the trigger on the truestrike mat and net return net. I also purchased the side barriers for mishits. The wifey gave me the go ahead but has emphatically said if I put a hole in her house their would be hell to pay, which is why I bought a more expensive net and side barriers. Will send pictures when the whole thing is setup. Thanks for the input.

Looking into buying a hitting net to put into my garage. Just wanted to know what you guys think about what are some of the better ones out there. Definitely looking for one that will hold up over time and not let balls fly into my drywall. I am looking at the net return nets but they are a little pricey. Maybe that's because you get what you pay for? Just looking for input from all of you out there.

Laser Rangefinder
SCfanatic35 replied to SCfanatic35's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I definitely want a rangefinder that's legal to use in tournaments. I know some come with slope and club suggestions, etc. For those models that do come with those features, are you able to shutoff those features to make it legal? I've been looking at TGW for awhile and it seems that 250-400 is the price range for decent models, does that sound about right? -
Making my 2nd trip to Bandon Dunes in March and I want to get a very lightweight shoulder strap style bag. Last year I used one of Bandons pull carts and would prefer to carry my bag on my back instead of killing my shoulder and arm for a few days. Any suggestions?

I am done with my sky caddie and I am looking to buy a laser rangefinder. I have been looking at various bushnell and Leopold models, not sure which one is the one for me. Don't need all the fancy bells and whistles, all I want is an accurate one. Any suggestions?

I didnt throw it in the tree. I was attempting to hit a real difficult shot from an impossible lie, and the club just slipped out of my hand. My caddie noticed afterwards that my grips were worn which would explain what happened. -
How Would You Play It? (9th at Belmont CC, Fresno, CA)
SCfanatic35 replied to Golfingdad's topic in Golf Talk
Since this is my home course, these are the 2 scenarios I have seen to work the best. Reaching green in 2; is usually accomplished with hitting a draw or fade to the right of the fairway bunker. Very few ever clear the bunker in the air. The fade is the safest shot to hit because no trees or OB to worry about. Draw (high draw will clear the trees lining the right side) brings in OB to the right and if you don't hit it high enough to get over trees par then becomes a great score. If you can hit it to the ideal spot then 3W or 3H is the usually the choice. Danger here is there is no run up to the green, you must carry the two tiered pond to reach the green. This shot becomes more scary because of the OB parking lot to the right. Cars do park directly next to the grass, one of those usually being a yellow corvette. These guys are more concerned with shading their cars then stray balls smashing into them. Most golfers of my ability shy away from going for it because of the cars. Reaching green in 3; the safe way is to hit a 3W or short Driver short of the bunker. Next club is completely golfers choice on approach distance. Key here is to hit it up the left side of the fairway even a few yards into the first cut is OK. This way it takes water almost out of play and its possible to run it up or even putt if you are close enough based on 2nd shot. -

A 10.5 Taylormade SLDR Driver -
Tied my lowest round ever yesterday with an 83. Should have shot an 82, on 17 I was about 90 yards out and hit my GW sideways into a tree, no clue how that happened considering how well I played. Didn't hit into any bunkers. Only had one double bogey, and it was on a hole I hit into a different fairway and rushed to hit the shot to get out of the way of the group coming up it. Now I just have to keep it up.
