  1. You're in the city, otherwise I would have other recommendations for you - I'm in the Peninsula and I play courses in the South Bay and Peninsula - Stanford is my home course, but if I wander, I go to mostly Cinnabar Hills and Palo Alto Municipal. Rarely, I'll go to Shoreline Golf Links if the geese are not there.
  2. I would love to play with people here from the Bay Area if there's anyone around here.
  3. In coastal San Diego? $200/night including golf? Not happening. Gotta go inland There aren't that many golf resorts either. There's: 1) $$$$: Four Seasons Resort Aviara (Carlsbad) 2) $$$$: La Costa Resort (Carlsbad) 2) $$$$: The Lodge at Torrey Pines (Torrey Pines/La Jolla) 3) $$: Rancho Bernardo Inn 4) $$$$$: The Grand Del Mar - new Tom Fazio course There's also Barona and Sycuan, but these aren't really in San Diego. Out of all of them, the cheapest one is the Rancho Bernardo Inn - $200/night gets you 1 round of golf a day at: Rancho Bernardo Inn, Encinitas Ranch, Oaks North, Reidy Creek, Temecula Creek Inn, Twin Oaks, and Arrowood. Take a look here: http://www.jcgolf.com/
  4. I fail to understand why aeration is so bad. Just check your line. The aerated greens that I've seen were never completely ripped up.. Just holes in them - they don't affect my putt any more than a wayward blade of grass does.
  5. Carlsbad is about 30-40 minutes from downtown San Diego - and Barona is farther. About a hour 15 or so. I have to tell you though - Aviara is one of my favorite courses in SD. And it's not a hassle to get on. [EDIT: NEvermind, I see you're going in November] Also, when are you going to Torrey Pines? It's obviously closed right now for the Open, and will continue to be closed for a bit for ground repair. I think the South Course is supposed to reopen June 19th. I also recommend Encinitas Ranch up in North County. I also, of course, can recommend a lot of private courses up there too, but unless you know a member, I don't know how you can get in.
  6. You seem to have a Scotty Red-X in your bag.
  7. Congrats! I'd love to hit a 9 under par someday. Actively working on it .:)
  8. You need to get around San Diego some more. :) Torrey is great, but not the best in SD. Rancho Santa Fe Country Club comes to mind. Four Seasons at Aviara too - and that's public. Aviara is an Arnold Palmer course - the finishing 3 holes are some of the toughest you'll ever play.
  9. Wow. Thanks so much for that very informative analysis. I will try to put it to use tomorrow... I printed a copy of it and the photos, so I'll try to work at it. Thanks so much again!
  10. 1) Pebble Beach 2) Cypress Point 3) St. Andrews (Old Course) 4) Augusta National 5) Pine Valley I dunno, everyone's going to pick the same courses... However, Pine Valley, typically #1 on golf ranking lists, confuses me - nobody ever sees enough of it. It's not in any golf games - neither is Augusta. People see Augusta at the Masters, but Pine Valley is shrouded in obscurity. I just want to play it to see what the hype is all about.
  11. Also.... I'll try to get different and better angles next time - with a tripod or my fiancee.. :) I'd also like to see a top down version of my swing so we can see where the club is tracking.
  12. Sheesh. I'm almost embarrased to post this video. I just looked at it frame by frame. I checked my plane by comparing my backswing's perpendicular moment (where the club is perpendicular to the ground) and my downswing - the club points to the ball both times, at the same angle, so the plane seems to be okay. Another thing I just noticed: My hips are rotated way too far out at the moment of impact, and my right heel is off the ground. Example of body position at impact:
  13. Left wrist. As you can see in the video, it hinges pretty badly.
  14. Yep, I see everything in this video that you mention - I'm glad I did this today. Fix-it list 1) Stop re-gripping. 2) Ground left foot. 3) Use hips + shoulders to start swing, not arms. 4) Use left arm to backswing, weak right arm. Left grip is strong, right grip is weak. 5) Swing towards "first base" - I was trying to do this in the end. 6) Finish with hands level to ear. Sheesh, this is a long to-do.
  15. Here's a video of my swing that I was working on at the range. http://www.redfaktor.com/dump/6iron_slice.mpg As you can see, the ball slices right. I think it's because my swing is looping outside to inside. Plus my hips seem too active. What say you, Sandtrappers?
  16. Wow, I've never heard of any golf shop putting 50% off on a returned putter.
  17. I can assure you such a thing will not fly by the fiancee. She is not dumb. At all. I don't date dumb women. :)
  18. Wow, impressive. I wonder if there have been lower scores... I doubt it.
  19. SEE! I'm not the only one! The AP1/AP2 irons are starting to eat into my soul too.
  20. Yeah, I did mean 16, sorry. :) Basically, it just looks like you have inconsistiency in your tee shots and in your short putts. 3 missed short putts, it seems like in just the 5 holes I asked about. Probably more in the other holes too? I'm not that great of a player, but I know where to look to fix my game. I guess I would just work on the driver + tee irons and getting a clean, repeating swing ingrained in your skull. Your bunker game looks like it needs work too... Putts are easy enough to fix. Do short putting drills (such as putting 12 balls 3 feet away from the hole in all directions), and above all.. TAKE YOUR TIME! I rarely 3-putt now because I take my time with every putt.
  21. Tell us the stories of your double and triple bogies (and the four) Did you three-putt them? Couldn't make the sand saves? What happened on holes: 4, 7, 10, 17, 18?
  22. Looking closer over that scorecard - were you off the back tees? The par 3's are pretty long.
  23. Nice eagle on that par 4. A bit short though - 273? you must have gotten under GIR.
  24. Haha, so that means you have a slighty used 33" SC NP2 on hand. Wanna sell it to me? Anyway, my birthday is coming up in a month and a half, perhaps she will have the vision to treat me to a nice putter. :)
