  1. Haha, yeah the problem was my first putt was not leaving me anywhere near a tap in for the second. I'd either leave myself 4 feet short or blow it past the hole 6 feet. I think it had a lot to do with the greens being recently worked on and the fact I haven't really put the work in with my putting practice. I just couldn't get the speed right to save my life. Just frustrating is all.
  2. 27 putts and 3 penalty strokes to be exact. Wow, just typing that hurts.
  3. Yesterday pretty much sucked. I played 9 and shot 55, granted it was a tough course. 3 lost ball penalties (only 1 was a bad shot though, just couldn't find the other balls) and I pretty much 3 putted every single hole. The greens were just aerated and everyone in my group had trouble putting but it was just ridiculous. I had 4 putts for par from 4 feet or less and left everyone short a few inches . I was fairly happy with my ball striking but driving and putting is what contributed to the high score. Guess I'll need to start practicing putting a bit more often.
  4. Got my second lesson from Brian today. It's kind of funny because the two things he mentions that I need to work on are things I've been practicing the past few days. He also did bring up my posture, telling me I need to stand taller to move my weight from my heels. Anyway, he wants to see a stronger grip and for me to work on starting the ball where I want i.e. club face control. I went to the range this morning before receiving the video and toyed around with a stronger grip. Things went very well from there. I also tried to not think of any mechanical thoughts or hitting positions while swinging. I just envisioned the flow of the swing I wanted (think Ernie Els). Also, I've been working on my start lines by hitting wiffle balls in the garage. If the ball bounces back to me then I know it started straight. I'm playing Fossil Trace here in CO tomorrow. Hopefully I can carry over my good swings from today :)
  5. Ahhh, okay. That I'd agree with Thanks, Erik.
  6. Also, Dude, Canadian goose is not the preferred nomenclature. Canadian-American goose, please
  7. I was driving the other day and slowed down to let this duck merge in front of me. No "thank you" wave. I understand he doesn't have hands, just wings, but total prick move IMO.
  8. Thanks, man. Yeah, I'm hoping that since I'm putting in the work to get a fundamentally sound golf swing now that I'll be better for it in the long run. Where at in Michigan are you? I grew up around the Brighton/Howell area but moved out of state after college.
  9. Now I'm a little confused. I thought I was previously delofting the club ("not adding a bunch of loft") by closing it at address in an attempt to stop the ball from shooting out right. Thanks! That's just an estimate though. I have no idea what my actual hcp is. My goal this summer is to break 90. Baby steps...
  10. Powerful and balanced. Seriously nice!
  11. So I submitted these videos to Brian tonight. The range session with the new grip didn't go so great today. EVERYTHING went right. Lots of pushes with my 9 iron and a couple push fades. Also, I'm still bumping my head off the ball in my backswing which annoys me to no end when I'm watching my swing. I got lots of work to do...
  12. New glove and new grip. The old glove may have had slightly too much wear and tear. Going to the range tomorrow to try it out.
  13. What? Isn't that what they're supposed to look like???
  14. Just received my Evolvr lesson from Brian. Of course, it was not even close to what I was predicting. No issues with my setup but he wants me to work on my grip, specifically my left hand. He says it's too much in the palm and that I've set up with such a delofted club face, that it's contributing to my inconsistent and low ball flight. Looking at the wear on my glove, can't say I disagree with him... Also, probably need to ease up on the death grip. Anyway, I'm kind of happy that this is something static I can start working on rather than something happening during my swing, which is coming. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix that only feels odd for a little while.
  15. Just doing some practice swings in the garage last night. This is where I'd like my backswing to stop. It feels like my hands are just about head high. I need to make it a point to stop there and not try to go farther back. It adds nothing. I'm putting these pictures here so that I can visualize them while practicing.
  16. I figured it would be. My posture has improved since last summer but it's easy to slip into bad habits. It's amazing how much your posture affects the entire swing. It's equally amazing how easy it is to do wrong.
  17. Yeah, that's something I consciously do because I often lose my balance on my follow through and fall forward onto my toes. I realize this is a compensation for something else. What that something else is, I don't really know (maybe swinging too far in-to-out?). That's what I'm hoping Evolvr can help with (in addition to the myriad of other things I'm doing wrong).
  18. Thanks, Mike. I wish my scorecard agreed with you. I just really hate that my head gets turned so far off the ball. I think I need to work on more side bend to get my shoulders steeper and not go so far back. I guess we'll see what my Evolvr instructor has to say.
  19. Signed back up with Evolvr tonight. Looking forward to getting better. Here are the videos I submitted. I'm guessing my priority piece will be the overswinging.
  20. That picture on the left is where I'm trying to get. My swing also tends to be too long, which is proving to be a real pain the arse to fix. Keep up the good work!
  21. My driver is still a mess, I have pretty much given up on it and will hit 3w until I have the driver more controlled, but I will echo what other people have said. The driver feels different because when we get it in our hands, our testosterone kicks in and tells us to swing for the fences. That's about the last thing you should be feeling during the golf swing. Also, I think the length of the shaft makes the timing of the swing more difficult and harder to hit the center of the face.
  22. I think this is something I have trouble with. I tend to think about the swing as turning around an axis so I "see" very little bend in my mind's eye. What sort of thoughts/feels do you focus on to incorporate more bend into your backswing?
  23. Thanks, Mike. I'll check out that link when I get home tonight.
  24. Perfect, thanks guys! It's crazy to me how much of what I've read and been told about the golf swing that is actually incorrect. In the first lesson I ever took, the guy told me to make sure I kept my trail knee flexed, don't straighten it. I guess that's why there's an entire thread about that "myth".
  25. I've been working on developing a steeper shoulder turn in an attempt to stop having my chin get "bumped" by my left shoulder on the backswing to the point I can't see the ball in my foveal vision. While I was working on this, I realized that a big part of getting a steeper shoulder turn is actually related to the hips moving correctly. Essentially, the right hip rotating behind me and up allows the shoulders to turn at the correct angle. @saevel25 gave me this exact advice in my swing thread weeks ago, but it didn't click until last night. My question is: am I thinking about this correctly and if so, does anyone have any drills they've successfully used to get a steeper turn? TIA
