  1. I think you're selling quality items short and classifying them for purely vanity reasons. Does a Ferrari cost a hell of a lot because of the Prancing Horse on the badge? Absolutely. But it also costs a lot because of the quality and performance of the vehicle. I know the argument here is, but it only gets you from Point A to Point B. And yes, yes it does. But the Ferrari does it in a way the Ford doesn't. Same goes for sunglasses. There is a lot to the quality of higher ends glasses. And I think wanting to protect your eyes with quality sunglasses is definitely a justifiable reason. My father lost an eye to ocular cancer. I'd like to avoid having that happen to me. So I'm willing to spend a larger amount of money on quality sunglasses.
  2. I think he meant that it gives a certain appearance, like anything really. People often form their first impressions of others based on what they're wearing, driving, drinking, etc. If I meet a guy and he's got keys for a Ferrari, my impression will be slightly different than if the keys were to a Toyota. Same for sunglasses.
  3. I cringe every time my Ray-Bans hit the deck. So far I've been lucky to avoid any scratches.
  4. Pocket 1 - Ball marker, sharpie, pitch mark repair tool Pocket 2 - Balls Pocket 3 - Rain shirt and water bottle Pocket 4 - Cell phone Pocket 5 - Tees Pocket 6 - Glove, wallet, keys
  5. Staying hydrated isn't the problem. Obviously it can be, but I've been dehydrated on the trail miles from the trailhead and it's not fun. It's actually pretty scary. So I always keep a lot of water on me. Definitely going to try to remember to take a wet towel with me to wrap around my neck next time. Sadly, the 9 hole course that I play often is fairly open so there isn't much shade.
  6. I'd say the Ping G2s are comparable to both the AP1 and Burner 2.0. Both clubs are designed more for higher handicaps. I would doubt if you saw a huge difference between the clubs as far as performance goes. Best thing you can do is hit both and see which ones you prefer.
  7. You're better off going somewhere and getting fitted. They'll be able to tell you what shaft you need and if you need any lie/length adjustments. That way you know with complete confidence what you need to do.
  8. It's starting to get to that point of the year here in Southern Virginia where its hot and humid every day. Walking up and down the rolling hills becomes a bit more of a challenge. Today's 9 was interrupted with a nice shower halfway through, but afterwards it was really muggy. I was drenched in sweat by the time I walked off the 9th green. I usually throw some Gold Bond powder on and carry a liter of Gatorade or water with me. Anyone have any tips on staying cool when walking?
  9. Look into signing up for Get Golf Ready. http://www.playgolfamerica.com/ggr/
  10. Just walked 9. Shot 41. 5 bogeys and 4 pars. #1 360 Par 4. Bogey - Great drive in the fairway (~280 downhill). Approach wedge was short on the fringe. Poor chip. 2 putt. #2 420 Par 4. Bogey - Poor drive to the right rough. Downhill lie, 8 iron to just short of the green. Average chip. 2 putt. #3 128 Par 3. Par - Solid PW to about 14 feet. 2 putt. #4 540 Par 5. Bogey - Drive leaked right. 7 iron back to the fairway. 9 iron to about 25 feet. 3 putt. #5 323 Par 4. Bogey - Poorly hit 3w of the tee. Lie is above my feet and I misjudge how much it would go left. Poor pitch. 2 putt. #6 160 Par 3. Par - Great 7 iron to about 10 feet. 2 putt. #7 486 Par 4. Par - Best drive of the day (Tees are very elevated). Had 178 left. 6 iron to about 12 feet. 2 putt. #8 506 Par 5. Par - Average drive. 7 iron lay up. Fat wedge clips a branch and drops. 30 yard pitch jars the hole and spins out. 1 putt. #9 380 Par 4. Bogey - 3w off the tee. PW just off to the right. Blow the chip 7 feet by the hole. 2 putt. 4/7 Fairways 4/9 GIR 1/5 Up and Down Saves 18 Putts Clearly the short game and putting continues to suck.
  11. It started right because I was aiming right. I just didn't line up properly for the camera. The only time I draw the ball is when I want to. And to do that I feel like I really drop the club to the inside and I exaggerate rotating the clubface coming into impact. My normal ball flight is straight or fade and I like that because I don't have to worry about going left. After watching the video multiple times, I went and watched some pros for comparison. I noticed that the three pros I looked at (Woods, Rose, and Kaymer) none of their forward knees moved back as much as mine did. I'm thinking I might be trying to shift my weight back too much on the backswing and this could be the cause for the lateral movement away from the ball. So I'm going to be doing some mirror work trying to see the left knee move more down towards my toes than towards my right side.
  12. In the case of ties, they're planning on having a 3 hole playoff to determine the medalists. Which could be a lot of fun to watch.
  13. Yeah. I kind of wish they were using amateurs for the Olympics. But that's a losing fight. They want the best of the best and that means professionals need to be included. Especially when a lot of the best kids are turning pro before they're 20 (Jordan Spieth). The 72-hole stroke format allows for some final day drama which is more entertaining for TV than match-play. Especially when a guy is getting his ass handed to him.
  14. I'll watch it on the range to make sure I can see the whole swing. But it would be hard to analyze much on my little PAS screen. I always wait and once I'm home I play around on the free version of V1.
  15. Went out and practiced some today. Striking the ball really well. Even drove the ball well today which, recently, is a rare event. Again, I warn you about the wind noise. Also, I did a poor job of lining up properly for the DTL video. I'm balancing my camera on my putter headcover. I believe I'm going to try and find one of those tripods that can wrap around a shaft. Judging by my finish, I want to say the DTL swing was a tad fat.
  16. Sorry but this is one of my pet peeves. The proper phrase is "couldn't care less." If you could care less, that means you do care.
  17. I hadn't even considered that... good question.
  18. Practice. Do what feels natural and comfortable. Then make a point to do it every time. If 2 practice swings makes you feel confident, take 2 swings. It's that simple. I'm not sure why you're feeling rushed. Think of Ernie Els and his shuffle as he settles his weight. Or Matt Kuchar and how he hovers over the ball before taking it back. Or Jason Dufner and his waggles. Some guys have a forward press with their hands that acts as their trigger. And your swing thought could be anything that gives you a certain image or feeling. Smooth Swing for me makes me think of tempo. There are an infinite amount of possibilities.
  19. Your pre-shot routine and swing thought needs to be what is best for you. I don't think you spend too much time of the range. A lot of Korean golfers learn the game indoors hitting off mats into nets. You would probably benefit from treating each shot on the range like its out on the course. Step back, pick a target, and go through your routine. Too many golfers just stand there in one spot and hit balls over and over for no reason. Of course you can hit the ball well when you do that. It's a lot easier to get into a repeatable swing when you hit a ball every 15-20 seconds. But on the course, you can go for lengthy time periods between shots, so practicing that way doesn't help. For example, take the local 9 hole course that I walk frequently. I hit driver off the first tee, but don't hit it again until the 4th tee. That's a long time between swings. So I need to be able to stand on the tee box and go into a routine so I can try and repeat the process as close as possible each time.
  20. Have a consistent pre-shot routine? Swing thought? If your swing isn't the issue as your claiming, it could be a mental issue. You should have the utmost confidence in your swing so that when you stand over the ball on the course, all you're focusing on is results. This is where the pre-shot routine and consistent swing thought helps as well. It's just another swing once you're standing over the ball. You've hit it hundreds of times and you know you can hit it. For instance, my swing thought is "smooth swing." No matter what I'm doing. Hitting a draw, fade, pitch, chip, putt - same swing thought for all of them. "Smooth swing." Then again, because I don't know you and haven't seen you swing, I could be way off the mark here.
  21. I'd obviously like to see as much golf as possible. And I also like the idea of 36 holes in the final day for stroke play. If the Olympics are about the best of best, surely mental and physical stamina have to come into play. I could do without the long drive competition. Just not a fan. It's fun to watch on occasion, but I don't think we should be handing out Olympic medals for it. The more I think about it, the more I like Fray's idea. I am very curious to see the golf course more than anything though.
  22. Call me naive but I had never given any thought to someone potentially stealing my clubs. It wasn't until a few weeks ago when I read a post on this site that I saw someone mention they didn't use the stock headcovers because they didn't want to advertise what kind of clubs they had. Now I'm worried every time I set my bag down and there are other people around.
  23. Just read a quick little piece on GolfDigest written by David Fay. He proposes a slight change to the format for Golf in the 2016 Olympics. Currently, I believe it's to be the standard 72-hole stroke play. David, however, suggests something slightly different. And I have to admit, I think he has a few good points. First three days: Play the 72 holes of stroke play, with the final day consisting of 36 holes (acknowledging the importance of speed of play and stamina, Citius and Fortius). Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. Day 4: Match play for the low four individuals (18 holes), based on the stroke-play results. Day 5: 36-hole match for the gold and silver medals, and a 36-hole consolation match for the bronze medal for the semi-final losers. Winning one individual gold medal representing one's country is an athletic accomplishment of the highest level. Winning two individual gold medals: rarefied air. Citius, Altius, Fortius... Read More http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/2013-08/david-fay-olympics-format-change#ixzz2Y0djh7Dm So let's hear some of the thought's floating around out there? Match play a good idea? Or should they just play the standard 72-hole stroke play.
