  1. What about Free International Shipping? (on orders over $xxx.xx) amount? I'd by a lot more, but it's the international shipping that's killer... Sure it's cheaper than being bought here in New Zealand, but I have to wait for 2-3 clubs (and hope they're in stock) to make it worth while
  2. Bit of a long story, but worth it non the less! About 5 years ago was playing a short local course with my dad, his best mate and his best mates son. I was 15 at the time and playing to a 7 or so, and this best mate decides to challenge me to a game; the looser has to run naked from the house we're renting down to the water (about 500m away). We tee off, and I'm about 4 shots down with 3 to play. We get to the 7th, a short par three which I par, and he manages to go bunker to bunker; eventually getting down and putting me 2 shots up. We get to the last, which is a long (450m) par 4, which a giant tree in the centre of the fairway 300m down. I tee off, and straight away hook it OB off the tee. He steps up and says "i'll show you how to do it" and he snaps it OB too. We tee off again, and i've got 180m in, and he's centre fairway a bit further up. I put my 4 iron up close to the green and he has to try play a huge hook around this giant tree. Well, lets just say he connected with it purely, straight into the tree! The ball lobs up and lands literally 2 metres behind him and he starts thrashing his club against his bag. Hits it again; OB left then hacks one up there. Walking past the tree, he pulls out his 7 iron and continues to beat this tree until the head falls of the shaft! I eventually win, he tosses his clubs everywhere, and then streaks down to the water where this very "queer" acting guy was waiting. Probably the highlight of all my golfing matches
  3. What's not to believe? Golf, like most individual sports is simple in theory. In practice, yes, they may be hard but only the user is to blame as they put the ball where they are now playing it from. I may be in the minority, but a lot of people (I believe) could improve if they took a more simplistic approach to the game, instead of turning it into this complex algorithm that only a select few can master.
  4. No, No troll here mate. Ironically, I find it funny on top of you finding my comment funny; this was not my intention. I don't believe I am "the exception". If I walked up to someone (who knew nothing of golf) and said, you get given 14 clubs, and all you need to do is put the ball in the hole, for which there is a recommended score you should achieve it sounds simple. The ball does not move, and you can take (up to a certain extent) as much time as you want to see what shot you want to hit. Yes, I am shooting under par, and yes I cal my putting a huge weakness. My last round under par, I hit 16 of 18 GIR and had 7 one putts (5 birdies), 4 3 putts and the rest two putts which left me One under. So 16 of 18 GIR and 34 putts; that seems like a weakness to me? My last round at a course I'd never played, shot 3 over but had 5 three putts and 35 putts for the round, again this seems like a weakness? In regards to "weekend warriors", you'll find a lot will drop there handicaps if they look at the game as a whole and realize how simplistic and easy it should be. My father, and Uncle being great examples; both play 1-3 times per month and played off about 18-22 handicaps. When they looked at the end of the round what went wrong they saw all these shots that were being thrown away. The following week, the stepped behind each shot and took the time to imagine what they wanted to do, they no longer tried to smash it like Tiger or Rory, instead they knew that a slice is unfortunately the way they hit the ball, so tee it up on the right, pick a spot down the left and what do you know they dropped 5 shots each. Last weekend their handicaps are sitting around 8-10 at present, with no more practice thrown in. Instead they believe they can do things, and they execute. Unfortunately, not many people think like this and thus keep slogging away practicing 3 times a week instead of thinking about what they need to do to get better. Sure getting that one drive away make look impressive, but signing your card after the 18th for a much improved score is the ultimate I would imagine for many.
  5. I find this funny. Having started playing again after taking a few years off (I was a 6 handicap), I'm now playing the best golf of my life. In less than 12 months i've gone from a 9 down to a 2 handicap, I play once every three weeks and don't pick up a club in between. Mentally it seems so much easier now, I see no excuse for playing badly because looking at it as a whole it shouldn't be a hard game (the ball isn't even moving). Hopefully this summer I can practice a few times a week and get down to scratch, I've shot quite a few rounds under par recently and putting is the obvious weakness. So in response to this comment, no, you don't need to play a lot/make it your life. You need to focus on the shot at hand and have enough self believe that you can hit every shot how you want to
  6. First time I shot under 70 on a par 70 was about 3 months ago. Found myself 4 over through 4 and 4 over through 8. Managed to birdie 9 for a 3 over front nine of 39. Proceeded to birdie the 10th, 13th, 15th and 17th to find myself -1 going into 18. Had been -1 going into the last twice before and this time I said let's get this monkey off my back. Proceeded to hook my drive into some trees and had a shot at the green about 160m out. Put the next on the green and lipped out for a 29 back nine, tapped in for par and shot 30 on the back for a 69 (-1). Since then have done it numerous times, with the lowest being a 66 - slope is 70.8/124
  7. Played a few weekends ago. Shot a 68 which is 2 under par - shot a 2 under 34 front nine and an even par 36 back nine. Course is sloped at 122 and 69.1 strokes (red birdie, blue bogey) Goes well with the round 2 weeks earlier. 4 over through my first 4, 4 over through 8 and then 5 under par on my last 10 holes. Including a 30 back nine (lipped out on 18 for a 29!) What programs do you guys use to keep track of rounds? I currently have rounds saved in excel with GIR, fairways, putts etc cheers
  8. Cheers for the warm welcome guys :) I used to play as a junior - got down to a 4.5 and then stopped for a few years. Interestingly enough, I used to play on Lydia (Ko's) pennant teams at our local club... Man she's good
  9. Hi All Have spent a bit of time on here reading reviews/tips etc and finally joined Currently on a 3.6 handicap which has been dropping steadily from a 8 over the past 4 months. Don't really practice, although I should - Just seem to be scoring better Cheers
