So you reply with a personal attack! Genius! Have you realised the irony of this? I would suggest growing up and getting over it.

I just bought a new Scotty studio select Newport 1.5. I didn't just try things randomly though, I went and got fit for it. The place I went to used a SAM puttlab which analysed my stroke completely, and showed me timings, face positions, path of swing etc. I didn't really pay attention to what clubs I was trying whilst I was being fit. Obviously I realised it was a Scotty by the red grip, but no idea which model etc. One of the interesting things was that I was holing lots of putts with different putters, but with the putters that didn't suit me the ball was truck at different times, so I was manipulating the face a lot to keep it on target. Obviously this worked fine for me at the time, but is the kind of thing that can go wrong under pressure. For this reason I would definitely recommend getting fit over just trying putters as sometimes what you see isn't what you get.

Thats a pretty good line. The thing is, of the gay people I know all of them would find this line funny. The people who would take offence would be liberals, but people who are not actually gay. Stupid really! Whilst I see what you are trying to get at, you have to look at arguments from both angles. I am not a liberal, but I can clearly see that gay people generally aren't anti straight, they are just pro gay. So when they speak out, they don't speak against straight people, they just speak for themselves. Where as a conservative person doesn't want to benefit themselves so much as punish a gay person. This is why you have 'all hell breaking loose' when a conservative person speaks their mind.

I also own and run a business. If one of my employees did what Feherty did and I fired them on the spot, I would be up in front of a tribunal. If they had commited a crime or mentioned the company it would be different.

Before I post please note I don't think Tiger is on steroids. Steroids would help a golfer though, they don't just make you big as most people think. They aid recovery generally, so you would be able to train harder without feeling the effects. You would also be able to recover quicker from injury (so applicable even more in this case) and in some cases they can actually be prescribed by doctors for this purpose.

Like I said before bulking only really inhibits flexibility when it physically gets in the way of range of motion. Making a muscle bigger and stronger will not in itself inhibit flexibility, especially when combined with flexibility training too. Flexibility is created by relaxing muscles. no matter how big a muscle is, it can still relax. Now training incorrectly can lead to neuromuscular adaptation which will inhibit the muscle from relaxing, and there are other factors such a muscle can't be relaxed past the point where it has the strength to contract and return to its contracted position. However these problems are for the most part caused by bad training rather than the actual muscle growth.

WOW! Slightly amusing, although even if you were just popping into the proshop, wouldn't you kill the engine? I would never leave my car running unattended, just in case someone decided that they fancied it, not to mention that its not a very green thing to do. Also over here its actually illegal.

It still amazes me that topics like this just go on and on. Tiger is the worlds number 1 golfer, noone on this forum is better or challenging him for that position, so why do so many they believe they know how to do it better? Tiger has one of the best coaches in the world, is anyone here a coach of that caliber or higher? Tiger has personal trainers and nutritionists, clearly this is a waste of money, he should just post on the sand trap, he'd get far better advice! OK I'm being a bit facetious, but do you see where I am coming from?

First off, I hope you didn't think I was being deadly serious, my remark was tongue in cheek about how over the top all this is. That makes perfect sense, and is what I would expect. This is the bit I don't get, why would you call for someone to be fired for something completely unrelated to work and not a civil or criminal offence? Doesn't really make sense to me. You might say that Feherty called for murder, but however you look at it, he didn't seriously mean it. The people calling for him to be fired are not 'joking' in anyway. I'm glad I work in a country where employees have rights, and can't just be fired for no reason.

Question about buying Clubs on Ebay..sorry I'm new
Surefire replied to md2002's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It looks like the guy is shipping from within the US too, I would take that as another positive sign. Its no guarantee of anything, but if the clubs were being shipped from China, it would be another warning sign. -
I thought the US had freedom of speech?

anyone purchased from askforgolf.com?
Surefire replied to tigertail75's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ignoring the protection using a credit card provides, in some countries there are laws regarding distance selling. Because you cannot actually inspect the item as you would in a store, you have a cooling off period where you can legally return the item no questions asked. This is certainly the case in the UK, and I would think for other EU countries also. -
Ok so the muscles are tight, pulling on the tendon. Why do you stretch the tendon? You didn't really answer my question. The answer is you don't, you relax the muscle. You do this perhaps through a stretching exercise, but you definitely don't stretch a tendon. Fascia has nothing to do it, it is the covering that wraps around muscles, tendons, everything in fact. To release the fascia you would use, a ball, a massage, or even a foam roller.
-
Can you explain this 'fact' to me? Tendons don't move, they are just a way of anchoring a muscle to something, they are not designed to be elastic. Stretching a tendon is not usually that great of an idea. Especially tendons around the knees and back. Muscles can get 'tight', but this usually means they are shorter because they are slightly contracted, rather than have somehow shrunk. Rather than physically stretch the muscle, it is better to try and relax the muscle. Although maybe this is achieved through a stretching exercise.

A golf shaft is normally tapered from butt to tip, however the tip of the shaft can either continue this tapering or be paralel. If the tip is paralel, the paralel tip length is the amount of shaft from the tip that is paralel before the shaft starts tapering. I'm no expert, but as far as I know, usually steel shafts are made for each club in the bag individually and are taper tipped. Graphite shafts are made in one length (For driver, fairways, hybrids or irons, so technically more than one length, but not a different length for each individual club) and paralel tipped, this allows you to cut down the shaft to the rquired length.

Why do you think being more bulky inhibits flexibility? Increasing the size of muscle tissue does not affect its flexibility. The only point more bulk inhibits flexibility is when it physically gets in the way, ie you can't get your arms by your side because your chest or lats are in the way. Also there was talk of stretching tendons. Why would you ever want to do that?

I agree with the above. eBay and PayPal are crap and only care about making as much money as possible. I sold an item on eBay, received the funds through PayPal and posted the item. 3 weeks alter I got an email from eBay apparently the account of the person who had bought my item had been hijacked, but don't worry eBay will refund my listing and final value fee. Unfortunately this didn't help as I had sold the item, so I emailed and told eBay. After many emails I got nowhere, and ended up not having the payment or the item. All eBay and PayPal did was tell me to go to the police and not to file for an unpaid item. This pissed me off because of all the people to blame I was bottom of the list. 1, The hijacker who committed the fraud should be the one who pays, but obviously this won't happen. 2, The person who got hijacked shouldn't have typed their password on a phishing email. 3, eBay should have detected different IP addresses, and spending patterns being used by the account. 4, I guess I shouldn't have followed the rules and believed the eBay and PayPal seller protection policy. If I had taken the money personally and completed the transaction outside of eBay this wouldn't have happened! Anyway as you can see bit of a rant as I wasn't happy, but the moral of the story is don't bother with eBay and PayPal, and if you really have to, use a credit card which offers you protection.

The bag is designed to be carried as best as possible, doesn't make the human body designed to carry the bag though. Just like a chair, it is very well designed for sitting on, but a human body is not designed to sit on a chair. Did you read my post? I said soldiers were not a fair comparison. As in we shouldn't be comparing golf bags and soldiers posting. Why are you telling me a soldier is a completely different case when that is what I said? It is very nice of you to suggest I hit the gym. I suggest you read the whole thread before posting.
-
I'm talking about both long term and short term posture. A long term change would happen over time, and would depend on how often you played. If this isn't frequent enough the change will be less noticeable. You wouldn't need to be carrying the bag 24/7 for this to happen, in the same way people get crossed pelvic syndrome without sitting in a chair 24/7. The short term change would be that you are putting your spine and hips in a position they are not designed to be in to accomodate the bag. This would be causing more damage and wear than normal. A soldier definately isn't a fair comparison. a) The soldiers keep the pack on for a longer period. They don't keep picking it up putting it down and performing a rotational motion inbetween. b) Look at how a soldiers back pack sits compared to a golf bag. Completely different positon. c) Do soldiers have good posture? I don't know the answer to this, but posture isn't necessarily as important to soldiering as it is to golf. Maybe they have lordotic or kyphotic posture, which causes them no problem but wouldn't be optimal for a golf swing.
-
I'm just curious, I can't see how you would carry a bag without changing your C of G. By doing this you would have to alter your posture to keep balance. Surely this altered posture would have some effect on you? Maybe not noticeable instantly, or even over a fairly long period, but over many years I believe it would be.
-
Are you sure? If you hit with a slight downward strike, there would be more backspin, this would reduce the effect of sidespin, not increase it like you are saying. Hence why downward strike has been suggested for more accuracy. However as also mention the backspin would cause a higher and shorter flight, with less rollout.
-
Its a bit more complex than you would think. By carrying a bag as well as wear and tear from the extra weight, you also move your C of G, and so adopt poor posture to compensate for this. I wouldn't say pushcarts are much better though, usually you have to adopt posture to push or pull one, and may even have to twist your spine, which isn't great. In the end I went for an electric cart, that way I still get to walk, but put no extra strain on my body. Like you I am in my twenties, and regularly go to the gym and take part in other physical activities. I use the cart to protect my body, although in the winter with bad conditions I will take a carry bag as it is easier, quicker and cleaner. Although I normally drop down to a 1/2 set too. I think many people look down on me for being young and using the electric cart, and say I should be able to handle more etc, but I don't care. I play golf for fun not exercise, and would rather look after my body.

The best method is usually to post the same topic twice on a thread! Theres actually quite a few threads like this already, have a search around and you should find some good stuff.

Your practice strategy: repetition or replication?
Surefire replied to microcrayfish's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I go with a bit of both, depending on what I am trying to achieve. For a swing change or new move, I will go with repetition to ingrain the new feel into my muscle memory. For something I know how to do, but want to practice actually doing it I will go for the replication route. In summary for technical work repetition, for feel work replication. -
I don't want to go to deep into this, because I will admit I am not a history expert and don't wish to do tons of research just for a forum topic. Also this is getting to the stage where I am being forced to take a side which wasn't my original point. I will go back to the original point that I was making, everything depends on your original viewpoint. Right and Wrong are not standard SI units, they are entirely opinion based. This board is predominantly US based, so I am not suprised I am having the resistence to my point that I am getting, as a majority will share the same opinion, and won't have seen or in some cases want to see things from a different angle. My original point which kind of got sidestepped still stands. If the same question was asked on a board with a different racial or religious background there would be a different viewpoint. Everyone always thinks they are right, this doesn't mean that they are!
