  1. For 6 months you are doing well. But I'm worried you are not having much fun. And the advice here will be very technical. You have the physique of a golfer so I advise getting a few lessons to get the basics down. But in the meantime have you ever tried to thrash the ball for fun? I mean really swing at it. It seems like you are afraid to hit the ball. Don't worry you won't break them. So do your controlled drills and practice but leave some balls at the end to have fun with. Its important you get the feel of what it's like when you connect with a driver at high speed. Its amazing. Its important to conceptually understand the driver is a whip, not a stick. You have do what ever possible to flex the shaft and let it snap straight at impact. Do this drill. Start with no ball and just swing away back and forth, back and forth, one motion. The goal is to create a swoosh sound at the bottom of your swing. Build this up faster and faster. Your back swing should be slow but your downswing will be quick and through. It should go so fast your arms become extended at the bottom and the club almost comes out your hands. (don't worry if it does, I've done it many times) Feel the weight of the club head. Whip it with your arms and your wrists. Back and forth, back and forth. Feel how your body has to flow with this movement. Everything is connected. Now you are swinging freely. This will loosen you up. Now place a ball in front of you and repeat the swoosh sound where the ball is. Don't worry. The balls will go everywhere. And you will often plain miss it. But 1 out of 10 you will hit the middle of the club face and ball will fly. Its the best feeling in the world. Have fun with this. For now who cares if it slices or hooks. You can learn to control that later. Get used to hitting the middle of the face. It will take a long time to get the fundamentals down but, like Bubba Watson, sometimes you just gotta feel it.
  2. maybe I should have been clearer Mr. Burton9190. My concern was that the lad was getting already frustrated and was looking for some miracle cure. His problems are inconsistency. The reality is it takes years of practice. And when I say practice I mean a purposeful and deliberate approach. I didn't say just go out there and hit balls. I assumed he was smarter than that.
  3. OK. ths Seems like these guys have really helped you. It's amazing to see you improve so fast. I often get paired with hacks on the course who are too egotistical to get lessons or ask for help. And they wonder why they get so frustrated. Try to play with guys much better than you and you'll see and hear what their ball impact is like. After you get these fundamentals down your club head speed will get faster (only at the bottom, please) and you'll begin to flush it consistently. The ball starts to really fly at that point. It feels great. And your mates won't believe it. Good luck.
  4. Dude, you have a great swing. And looks like you have the sporting ability to get better. I'm not an instructor and can't give you a detailed breakdown. But on your driver swing you seem very far away from the ball. Your arms are reaching out a lot. I'm amazed you can even reach the ball on your downswing, but sure enough your swing path will be coming from the inside so much it can't help but push the ball to the right through impact. Also you are creating such a wide arc, it feels like you are struggling to create real club head speed. I recommend standing closer to the ball. Your arms should drop almost straight down from your shoulders. Just like your iron stance, which is spot on. Your swing will become more compact and more on plane. Maybe cut down the length of your driver shaft or grip down on it. This will give you more control and consistency. You will gain distance as your swing will become faster and you will flush it more.
  5. Hey, here is the deal. We can't tell anything with practice swings. We all got good practice swings. Let us see you hit a ball. Anyway, your swing looks good. All you have to do now is practice like crazy. And I mean a lot. We all have to. Practice only hitting half swings to get used to the feel when you hit a shot solid, off the middle of the face. Do this thousands of time with each club. Make em go straight. Then build up to a full swing.
  6. It takes years I'm afraid. For all of us. I had a quite nice swing from my childhood but I recently began again. It took me 3 years to start hitting it out of the center of the face. This is all that matters.
  7. This is easy. Even I did it to the amazement of my buddies. 1. Use a brand new lob wedge 58 or 60. 2. Use a brand new tour level ball 3. Study and practice the "hinge and hold method" on the Phil Mickelson DVD. 4. Clip the ball hard and crisp 5. Only try from 30 yards out (tough on short shorts)
  8. I'm not an instructor but I see or feel a real outside to in swing path. This glancing blow will sometimes create a high fade with an open club face but if the clubface is square it will go straight right in your case. Many people have this problem. I have this problem. Firstly you gotta slow down at the top. Your transition is so fast you are throwing or twisting your left shoulder laterally. You are trying to "kill it" and its killing you. You have to develop an inside to out swing path. To start your down swing your left shoulder needs to drop downward first. Look at how much Rory Mclroy comes from the inside. An instructor told me once to line the club face square (to second base) and swing the driver toward to first base. Repeat this a thousand times and things may get better.
  9. I'm not an instructor but I think you are doing a lot of things right and it will only be a matter of practice and time before you are shooting in the low 80s. Your set up is good. Half way back you are good. But then there is slight tilt. Look at Hunter Mahan. I did. His spine never moves. It spins but never floats around on the backswing. Your head will become more stable too. Keep your spine angle solid and you will load into the right leg correctly. At the top your right leg shouldn't be straight. Your right leg should feel a tension and always stay slightly bent. You have the capability of hitting a driver 285 yards if you practice and perfect your follow through. Look at Rory's follow through and finish. His belt buckle is facing the target. He pushes of his bent right leg to make his hips twist from a coiled position at the top to all the way around at the end. To get this finish of course his right heel has to come off the ground. You don't do this. At the end all the weight needs to be on your left leg, heel off the ground and you facing the target. To get this you have to loosen up and get a flow. Right now you are "holding onto the shot" with your arms. This leads to a slice. Look up instructions on how to "release the club head" too. This means turning the club face from 90 degrees open half way down to 90 degrees shut on the follow through. Go to an instructor for practical drills. But all I can say is think of the club as a whip and practice whipping it so fast (on the downswing) that the weight of the club head naturally pulls you forward into a full follow through. Right now you are swinging like a *****, don't worry about hurting or controlling the ball for now. Swing freely. After impact the club should feel like its coming out of your hands and pulling your weight to the target that you have to take a step forward.
  10. OK, kinda ignore my last post. I haven't seen your latest videos and how much you have improved. I'm impressed. Your core seems so much more stable. Keep that up. I had to learn that too. I watched Hunter Mahan and saw how stable everything was. Its like he a rod down his spine that everything spins around. Your head will stop floating around if you keep your spine firm. The only thing I "feel" you are still doing is mentally you are trying to "hit" the ball. Think if it as a fluid swing and the ball is merely getting in the way. Look how the pros make it look effortless. This is because all they are concerned about is creating club head speed right at the bottom of the swing, no where else. The club is a whip remember. On the course swing at 75% of full speed. Just use one more club to get there. And concentrate on hitting the middle of the face.
  11. You maybe overwhelmed by all the feedback but here goes anyway. The great thing is you are athletic and quick so club head speed is not going to be a problem for you. Your back swing is getting better and your impact position is good. But your follow through shows me you are not releasing the club head. I used to do this, until an instructor pointed it out. You are holding onto the club as if you are afraid it will come out of your hands. this causes a slice. I'm not an instructor but please look up some articles on releasing the club head. Club head speed comes from the whip created by your arms but also from the wrists turning the club face from 90 degrees open half way down then to square at impact and then to 90 closed on the follow through. Look at Rory's postion after impact and see how the shalft is pointing to the target on the follow through. Get a mirror and copy Rory. I did this. It took me hours, but I managed to slow down my back swing and focus on hitting the sweet spot. And no kidding I've started to drive it straight & 285 yards. You can too.
  12. I couldn't agree more. I learnt that a beautiful swing on the range means nothing when putting a score together on the course. When I started playing amateur tournaments I often got lots of compliments about my swing on the first tee. But reality hit me when every week I posted scores placing me dead last. The older guy with a scrappy swing always seemed to win. He knew how to score. To stay consistent. To always hit the fairway and to never 3 putt. I still love going to the range as its like a different game into its self. But it was only with playing more real golf that I managed to truly improve and eventually grind out a tournament win.
  13. Help! I play MP62s. How do these MP4s fit in & compare? Anyone?
