Day 9 My game has come a very far away since I took the club up again nine days ago. I hit about a bucket or so to warm my clubs up after school, and it wasn't as chilly as it used to be. Me and my dad have been working on a better swing, although we don't want to twerk it too much. However, I have created it so I reach back more backwards, and cut out my casting I once did. I also am attempting to get in the slot of pulling down more than I used to, and less head movement. In all, my swing is coming along great. I didn't hit one slice today on the range, and made some pretty good shots. But the real test came as I walked to the putting green to get a tee time. My friend, number one in norcal, was standing there tapping in some putts. A little small talk I got to the point that I was going to play a round, and he wanted to come out. As I stepped on the first tee with a 6-iron, he did his best to freak me out. Standing about 5 feet or so to the side of me, crossing his arms, he was nothing less than an intimidation. However, I zoned in and took a swing. Muscle memory crushed the ball straight down the center of the fairway over 170 yards. Both he and I were shocked, but more him than I. Paring the first whole, the round continued to go on a par streak. I finished our four hole loop at an even par, right in front of the best player around. Oh, and he was doing is very best to mess me up, but all in good favor of course. Saying things in my backswing and other things, but I appreciated it as it's only making me better. Every time we go play together we try to get in eachothers heads to our best abilities as it helps us zone in and prepare for the tournament pressure. If I continued to play a full round, I'm not sure what I'd shoot. I didn't have to use my driver once in the four holes, and that is the only club that ruins my game. Every time I hit a good tee shot, I do par or better ... every. single. time. However, I'm having major trouble with the driver.. but my dad and I intend to work on it this weekend. It's going to be a great week! Stay tuned!

Does anyone know if there's going to be any deals of the Titelist AP2 714's?

It's not an official handicap. I got a message from iacas saying I need to put a handicap up, and after discussing the best rounds I played in a tournament was an 84, he said to put it from 8-12.. so I did 8.69. But I surely am getting closer

Sorry, been busy. Day 7 & 8 My game is coming a long way, but I think the biggest thing I need to focus on is committing to my shots. I can hit my irons nearly, if not better, than the top players in Norcal if I commit to them. Every time I commit to my shot, I go par or better... I'm not saying this is because I'm great or anything, but this is because how golf is. I'm understanding how psychological this game really is, and it applies to everyone. A guy with just a little talent has the ability to shoot a good score as long as they commit to their shots every single time. It's harder than it seems, however.. but I'm getting to that stage. My short game is coming along nicely, as well. I'm getting a great feel for the putter and an even better one for my wedges. I usually practice short game around 3-4 hours a day, and it's really paying off. However, commitment is key in the shortgame as well. I was thinking last night, with the degree dropping nearly below 20, I came up short on a long 25 foot putt. I thought: "Why did I come up short? If I hit it hard, I'd still be a couple feet away like I am now, but instead I'm short and feet away. If I hit it harder, I would have a much better chance of sinking the putt." Next time I go out, all I'm concentrating on is commit, commit, commit. I stopped taking videos of my swing, as I'm beginning to think about my swing far too much. I had to take a step back and grab a drink of water on the range yesterday as I was so involved in the right swing for me. I went from a smooth, Dufner like swing, to an intense Tiger Woods swing, until I settled to what's natural for me. After all, I did play golf since I was four until the age of 9, that's 5 years of technique built into me... I just need to trust my fundamentals and go play the course. Like I said, if I commit, I can go par or better. However, the biggest problem that plagues my game right now is the driver. I can play every aspect of the game very very good, except the driver. Yesterday on the range I couldn't even hit the thing, and it's really driving me crazy. Luckily, the weekend is coming up and I get a couple days to key it in. I feel if I can get my drives consistent, I will drop subpar with ease.

200 hours? Jesus, how long are they in the program for? They'd have a full grown beard by then! Or did you mean 20? -
Agreed. I was trying too hard to make my swing perfect for the video. I'll post a more natural one tonight

So.. basically this Dan guy is quitting his job to practice golf all day, and for some reason gets famous from it? There's thousands of other people doing the same thing.. like why? -

Yeah it's usually 30 or so degrees.. I have to wear like 3 jackets to stay warm. Can't wait till Spring

Driving range will be open Wednesday. I'll work on a better finish etc. I don't think that swing is as good at it usually is. My back was sore during those swings, we'll see what happens Weds.

Thoughts on my new swing? The finish isn't that good, but I'll fix it -- I'm coming over from baseball and still have the low finish. Anyway, thoughts?

65/20/15 Practice Ratios: Where to Devote Your Practice Time
Kelzzy replied to iacas's topic in Swing Thoughts
Great points. For me, it seems like everything in my game is solid besides my driver. If I could hit my driver consistently, I would go sub-par with ease.. every time I hit a good drive, I go par or better 99% of the time. I'll work hard on the driver, it's the hardest club for me. -

Good advice, IDK why my handicap says 14.1. I put it as 4.1 because that's what I was shooting, but never had an official handicap. -
Thanks, this is what I was looking for. My back feels better already

65/20/15 Practice Ratios: Where to Devote Your Practice Time
Kelzzy replied to iacas's topic in Swing Thoughts
Interesting. Just read this, agree with it al, but would bump down swing skills about 15 percent and putting up more.. I don't know, that's just me. I need a lot of work on my driver, but I'll get to hitting it consistently. I think putting saves even the best.. maybe you should switch putting and chipping, as you putt more than you chip. And if you practice ball striking the most, you shouldn't have to chip as much. So maybe like that, but you wrote up a great article and I don't want to pretend like I'm taking away from the thousand word subject you wrote, I liked the read. Good advice. -
I'm not gonna spend a hundred bucks just to have him tell me it's overuse..
