  1. Went to golf galaxy yesterday to demo the titleist 909's. I ended up liking the D2 better but they didn't have any good shafts to demo for faster swing speeds. With the 909 D2 9.5*/prolaunch red S my specs were: ss:117, launch angle:14.5*, ball spin:3100. I'm considering the OBAN Devotion, Diamana White, Javlnfx, and Rombax Z to bring down my ball spin. Any thoughts on these shafts or others that shouldn't be overlooked? Thanks.
  2. So now we're gonna decide who deserves to win? I think people really underestimate what it takes to get to the top. Adam's swing looks better than Tiger's imo. He'll take down a major, it's just a matter of time.
  3. I'm not sure this argument holds water since there were far less recreational golfers 60+ years ago. The more people that play, the larger the range of "ball striking ability" there will be. There was also a lot less marketing of clubs that will "fix" your game 60+ years ago, so people had to do it the old fashion way. I think it comes down to what a person is comfortable playing with and how much practice they are willing to put in.
  4. If you know that you are having problems with your alignment and grip I think that should be your top priority. IMO you should learn good fundamentals with the clubs you have and then worry about getting a new set. Also, I'd say if playing once a week is "more serious golfing" then I wouldn't buy blades. If you're swinging well blades can be very rewarding but if your swing is off they can be very frustrating. I would say that if your not going to be getting out multiple times per week and have a 30+ handicap then I'd hold off until you feel like you are better than the irons you're currently playing.
  5. The 2002 model is 690mb and the 2005 is the 690.mb I was in the same boat this summer and ended up buying a set of the 690.mb's. They're great irons, you can't go wrong with them. On a side note...if you buy them used have the lie/loft checked because mine were all 2-3* weak when i got them.
  6. The face is milled but it's not a milled putter. I used to play the older classics 2 and it was a solid putter for the price but it doesn't have the same feel as a milled putter.
  7. Bring a 6 pack with ya. Makes other people's ranting much more tolerable.
  8. It's not really the same thing. I'm not saying blades will make you a better ball striker but I can see the argument. Playing blades forces you to make a consistent swing because there is less room for error. With a driver there is typically less of a need to work the ball as much and your not trying to hit a shot with the same precision as you are with irons. I think people put blades up on this pedestal like you need your tour card just to touch them, but if someone is comfortable playing them and plays often enough that their swing is consistent then I really don't see what the big deal is.
  9. I'd second the cg2's. Tgw is selling them new at a pretty good price.
  10. Most airlines specify as to what is allowed to be packed into a golf travel bag. i.e. 14 clubs, 12 balls, 1 pair of shoes..etc. I'm not sure what they actually do if you choose not to follow this though.
  11. I think a lot of people underestimate how fun it is to be able to work the ball in any way you want without a problem. There's always so much focus on the lack of forgiveness but no emphasis on the versatility. Every once in awhile I hit a shot that I wouldn't have even bothered attempting with cavities and it really makes your day when you pull it off.
  12. At the end of the day what's wrong with wanting to shoot a lower score? I'd much rather shoot 75 and feel like I wasn't hitting the ball well than feel like my ball striking was on but just couldn't score. I play blades but plenty of pro's don't. Does this mean that they have the wrong intentions for playing golf? Some people don't have the time to be practicing every day and game improvement irons make the game more enjoyable for them. If the only thing you care about is how well you hit the ball then there's no reason to keep score at all. I'm glad that I've reached a point in my game where I feel comfortable with playing blades but if I thought for a second that they were costing me strokes they wouldn't be in my bag anymore.
  13. Agreed. I've always put more emphasis on iron play than any other part of my game so I just feel a lot more comfortable with a 2 iron in my hands than a hybrid or high loft wood. It might just be me but with a wood I feel like I'm just trying to hit the ball within a certain area, with an iron I feel like I can put the ball wherever I want it.
  14. If you get forged irons the lofts can be changed to what you want very easily so that wouldn't be my concern. "Players" irons are going to have a much smaller sweet spot so off center hits will cause a significant loss in distance. I would switch if you feel like your irons aren't letting you hit shots that you feel like you are capable of hitting and want to be able to hit.
