'06-'07 irons? Titleist, Mizuno, Nike?
scooterguitar posted a topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Possibly needing a 2nd set of irons (whole setup for that matter) to store in a summer camper. Will be played alot, but I don;t want my main clubs there. Anyway...I am now playing the MP57 and totally love them. Though always liked Titleist years ago. Having been out of golf, I am only up-to-date on basically this year's stuff. I am a higher hdcp, but again I love and play the 57's well. What I love about the 57's, I know when I hit it good or bad, they don;t totally punish me on worse hits and when I hit them perfect it feels like I'm not hitting anything at all! Maybe the 775 cb? I see 60's can be had on the cheap, but might be a little too tough for me ya think? Nike, I have no clue. They will be gotten from ebay I can assume. I only want to stick to the three brands mentioned. Appreciate the responses. -

I'd just try on ebay for Canada auctions maybe? IF your hitting the 5w longer, then yes, time for new driver! -

I remember those. Honestly, so much has changed, plus the rest of your gear is new so might as well snag a newer driver. That is, unless you hit that firestick a mile and still love it. Those were cool many moons ago. I just gave my old Ti Bubble away to my father-in-law. I keep havinghim hit all the new drivers I go through and he still hits that 10 year old driver better than any of the new stuff, so if that is the case...save the $. -
I have the Mizuno 4w, love it, but...wasn't hitting my driver too far, so I did miss that little extra yardage. I change clubs too much to truly know yardage differences for a solid response. Now, I have been hitting drives great and my new 3w (CGB max) I am just crushing and it has been too much frequently so I go with a 19* hybrid. Now I am going to strat filling my bag with certain woods for specific courses I am playing. The Mizuno F60 4w, I can use from 175-200, my new 3w I can use from 190-230'ish. So you see, big gap there between them. Now my old 3w I can use from 185-210 comfy. That being said...I think it would be safe to assume, since you are getting the same spec club, it might be a 10-15 yard loss.

Ha, thanks guys. Good way to look at it. I've been on the green a few times for eagle, but so dang far away it never occured to me, basically knowing the chance for holing it was slim, but today, ahh shoulda, coulda, nada! Felt good, that is for sure. Then the next hole par3, I drilled a 15 footer from the fringe, go figure. Ended up being a decent round of 44, but should have been a 43! :>)

NAh. I do like the regualr wooden tees that have a smaller diameter cup for the ball to sit and that's what I buy.
-
Dang! One more rotation and it would have been mine. Struck a killer 2nd shot with my hybrid and it just stuck right up next to the pin and I choked! Oh well, next time! Felt good though for the first time.

I've been playing it the past few rounds, really liking it.

Thanks so much guys, all very sensible and appreciate the timer spent. Plus we have a Zappa guy!Stacy, on occassion, I do do the wrist cock in my pre-swing drill, but with the long laundry list I forget more often than not. I will try that along with the other ideas to try. Zappa, I know I do do the scooping thing, no matter how I try, I just can't seem to stop doing it. This could very well be my biggest issue. I will often blow shots for coming in too far behind the ball. Only thing I attribute it to is years of doing it the wrong way, I can guess it came from years ago not being able to hit fairway woods and working with them all one summer. Now, I hit fairway woods great, but it is time to truly get the fundamentals down so I can get down to a consitent score I'm happy with, I also do close the clubface 95% of the time, that alone helped my overall swing SO MUCH this summer. I know it is time for another refresher lesson, maybe this week I can make it. With solid contact and swinging decent, normal distances, 95% of my playing time: drives: 225-260 3w: 190-220 7i: 140 I'm happy with my woods overall, it is the irons that are failing me. I'll often be say 140 out, knowingly can hit my 7 that far, then 9/10 times come up short.

Awesome! Keep it going.

Verifying age for shipping a old Playboy?

Well, is it really worth the chance to make a few $'s? -
Using sensicore regular, but same problem with stiff DG's I've hit and demoed. Back, as in towards rear foot, correct? And what is that wrist defolt thing, can you explain a little more please?

Well, I'm just not getting distance I should be, only carrying a 9i about 110-115 per say. I'm 6'1", decent structure and have a driver speed of around 95-100. Plus, a "Pro-to-be" who was watching me one day said I did, but sure didn't offer up any advice. Maybe let me ask this, let's say I would need to hit a shot low, i.e wind, obstructions, etc..., how would I approach that? Maybe looking at what I could be doing opposed to changing it might have a more positive outlook.

I am hitting my irons (MP57) way, way high. I love that my swing has finally come around and the iron shots are looking great, but I know it is just too high. I place the ball in the middle of my stance. Any suggestions to give a shot? Thanks

Well, first 18 with it. I do not like super long putts with it, seems to be lacking some feedback, but all long putts really came close for instant 2 putt, so I guess it is cool. Overall, nice putter, mucho better than the Marxman mini I have. Tomorrow, the new Bettinardi!

That's great! Sure hope it works for me. I've always been a blade guy until recently, so figure they're all worth a try!

Som on a putter quest today with some trade-in $ I hadleftover...I was after the Ping I series 1/2 moon, but they didn;t have my size. After trying many out...I ended up with the Sabertooth. I recently got a Mini Marxman and its glory faded quickly. I picked up the ST just for the heck of it and it just seemed to stroke so pure and true to my swing. After some time, I walked out with it. Be trying it for real tomorrow. Looks like the collection is growing. I know flop on here uses one, anyone else?

Wow, cool info guys. I totally forget ball speed and spin, though they did speak of it and commented on what was optimal and what wasn't. Of maybe 9 drivers, all with 9.5*, (had none with 8.5), only two were launching in the 12-13 range for me, again with various shafts. The driver I bought this time is the one they said was producing the best #'s, 907 D2 with Adila, it also had much less backspin rate than the other one I was looking at. My swing speed averages 95 mph on drives fairly consistently, so I'm not a big swinger. Man, I wish I had this info beforehand, sure I woulda came home with the same driver, but it would have been nice to compare. In my old days, it was merely which one did the best at the range. So, with all this, I should be teeing even higher? The two drivers I have (460cc), I usually tee them up with the very top of the ball even or slightly above the face of the club. I'll have to experiement more at the range I guess.
-
Yes, I believe so. It was numerous drivers, most I hit really high, around 18-20 launch. Found a few that I was hitting in the 13 range. When I asked why it seems all of them I hit high when years ago most of the clubs were medium to low trajectory for me, their reason was that softer balls now and carry is more important or something along those lines. MY thing is, even with the driver I hit in the ideal launch angle (I have two of them), tee'd up lower, on the course they still just go very high seemingly to me.
-
Not sure where this should go, so I will try it here. As I am recently back into the game after numerous years off, so much has changed and I am finally getting a grip on it I think, understanding the gear changes and getting a lesson...getting there! So, my question is, why is a high trajectory so important these days with the driver? As I have tried every dang driver out it seems, along with various shafts, been on the swing analysis...the guys tell me ideally you want the height of your drive high. Well, I do hit it high, but to me it just seems to high.

Yep, usually 15 minutes is good.

That is sweet! -
I demoed them both, as well as the older one too. I did not like the XLS at all. The other two were great!

Red Hawk today! Hope it doesn't kill me

As I frequent the rough quite often and have been trying hybrids...I tend to like the heavier weighted hybrids, like the Titleist 585 from the deep stuff. My Cally fusion FT hybrid is great, but in the thick stuff the lighter head just gets eaten up and the 585 blasts through it.
