Taylormade R11 Irons
SpacklersEdge replied to SpacklersEdge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I checked them out at golfsmith today. they are not giant GI irons by any stretch. The sole is much thinner than an R9. I held them side by side. The top line is thinner, and head itself is shorter and smaller. I thought they were really nice looking clubs, I liked that the heel and toe (outside the grooves) was bright chrome vs. the satin groove portion. To each his own, I liked them a lot. -
Taylormade R11 Irons

No it was a general observation from what I have read elsewhere. It's like someone who doesn't like a Lamborghini based on looks, and it's non-classic lines. To each his own, I could care less if the weight (or decorative badge) was neon green, so long as it serves a purpose. If I swing these clubs and I get great feel and distance, and it goes where I am intending it to go. If I hit them and they aren't good, then obviously the weight will be considered pointless. -
Taylormade R11 Irons

Call me crazy but I like the looks of them from what I can see so far. The picture Erik posted isn't much, but there are more "hands on" pictures on a competing forum I won't paste a link to here. People with their "these don't look classic" attitudes, I don't get sometimes. But to each his own, that's why we have so many choices. Results are what matters to me. -
Taylormade R11 Irons
SpacklersEdge replied to SpacklersEdge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
From what I have read, they are considered a GI iron, but with the looks of a players iron. They are said to be as long as the burners, but not nearly as thick and chunky, and more workable. Also, the TM engineers are saying they found a new way to create the grooves (since they are cast and not milled) and this produced some significant increases in spin over the previous models cast grooves (like the R9's). Also the soles are said to be very good since they got input from a lot of tour pro's and mainly Faldo. -
Saw these were announced today, did a quick search and didn't find any relevant threads. Anyone have any experience with these already?

I have been playing MP-52's now for about 9 months. the loss of distance, and the added difficulty to hit them solidly a higher percentage of the time have made me re-think them. I put my older Taylormade RAC OS2's back in the bag for the lasst 3 rounds and shot the three lowest scores of the year. The OS2's just look terrible at address now though, after playing MP-52's. What irons are out there that have more of a players look, but still provide forgiveness? I am considering JPX800's, or JPX800 Pro's, but I am looking to see what other brand are similar to those?

Favorite Michigan courses
SpacklersEdge replied to U of M Fan's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I played twice this past weekend at Eagle Eye in Bath, MI. One of the top 3 courses I have ever played, absolutely loved it. Definitely should check it out. -
I have two Titleist Vokey Wedges. 52 and 58 degrees, both with 8 degree of bounce. These wedges are brand new, still in the original shrink wrap on the heads and on the grips. They will ship in the original box that came straight from Titleist. Looking for 90 each, if sold for 90 each I will pay shipping UPS Ground and both will ship together. I am willing to separate them and we can negotiate a price that includes shipping. These are mint wedges, $120 at any golf shop each. PM me with any questions or offers!

Set of Mizuno MP-52 Irons, standard length/loft/lie. Fitted with Project X 5.5 shafts and standard Mizuno grips from the factory. I got these direct from Mizuno, and can provide serial number and pictures upon request. These irons are used. I have played approximately 30 rounds with these clubs and they are in excellent condition. For all but 3-4 of the rounds I did not even have the 3 and 4 irons in my bag. Minimal bag chatter, no major dings or dents in any of the clubs. The grooves are still sharp and provide plenty of bite. This is an excellent set of irons at this price. PM me for picture requests, or to submit and offer and we can discuss shipping, should be around $15 to anywhere in the US.

He said it a lot better than I did :)

Sounds like a problem I had. When i got to see some video of my swing, i found I was "pulling back" from the ball with my left shoulder during the downswing. Try taking some swings making sure you don't stand up at all, and feel like you are still pointing your shoulders right of the target line at impact.

I seriously don't think he will ever win another Major, that's for sure. Just my opinion, that knee seems to be wrecked.

In this video, he states that good golfers have divots which point to the left of the target when they hit good shots... "even a draw". Is this correct? Put together with the "ball flight laws", it makes no sense to me. The only way this could be correct is if they were hitting the ball with an open club face slightly? I just want to know what my perfect divot should look like. EDIT: After watching again, he does have the correct view on the ball flight laws. But even he says the ball is gone before the club is "turning" left, so wouldn't the divot be over by then also?

Great replies so far, I think I am going to hit the range at lunch and focus on the setup only. No swing changes at all, I will simply be more conscious of having the ball off the left instep, and a wider setup. I will report back and let you know how it goes.

If you are new, learn the most important thing possible before it's too late. If you hit this "slot", and have the clubface/path in the right spot, swinging hard will never make the ball go farther. This game is all about mechanics, tempo, balance. If those three things are spot on, the ball just jumps off the club and you hardly feel like you are trying.

I have been working a lot on my swing plane and various things to cure my ball striking with my irons. I had been hitting everything either thin line drives (divot starting 1-2 inches AFTER the ball) or off the toe of the club, losing significant distance. Last 2 weeks have been MUCH better, I am killing my irons, hitting them high etc. Everything is good from LW on down to 4I. When I get to the driver, it's terrible. When my irons were terrible, my driver was the only thing I COULD hit. Now it's swapped. My driver is coming out VERY low, like a low lining slight pull fade. I think the issue is that I had become way too flat previously, and so I worked and worked to get a steeper back swing and follow through on my irons. now I am hitting them in the sweet spot with great divots on the target line. But not this steeper swing seems to be really messing with my drives. I finally feel like I could score well if I could olny drive reasonably well again. How much does your swing plane, or swing in general change when using the driver vs. irons (which are much shorter). Why is it coming off so low? I feel like I must be de-lofting it at impact and perhaps coming across a little. Any tips or drills you guys can suggest to remedy this? It's funny, up until now I would just step up and hit the driver right where I wanted to, with a slight fade, now it's just ugly looking.

This is the problem I have, my divots are starting too far in front of the ball, so my misses are "tops", or what I would really call a "thin" shot. It's not flippy top on the upswing, but rather the bottom of the swing being too far out in front. Be interested to see what people would respond to help fix and issue like this. In mym ind, my hips and shoulders are out in front of the may hands/arms on the downswing, like my arms and hands are left behind and can't catch up in time, is this correct?

I have an issue with hitting the ball too close the toe. On my irons I know this is happening based on feel (like I just hit a rock, whereas when I do sweet spot it, it's like there was no ball there at all), and by the contact marks on the club, and the loss of distance. I have tried moving farther from the ball, but this is not the actual issue. During a lesson, I know I am pulling in during the downing swing causing my to come across the contact area from the outside, resulting in a toe hit. when I really try to think about swing out to a line 10* to the right of my target line, I am sometimes able to hit it correctly, but it "feels" like I am throwing the club out there, and it "feels" like I am throwing the club and it resembles the feeling of your arms being pulled out of the shoulder sockets. This results in throwing my off balance. does anyone have any good drills to work on to get the swing going in the correct direction on the downswing for me? Could it be my hand are too high at the top, and I am not swinging around my body, or flat enough? I think the root cause is coming before the start of the downswing, not the fact I pull in, the pull in to me feels like a natural reaction because my mind think if I don't do this I will hit fat or hosel it.

Playing 5 rounds this weekend with golfers of varying abilities. 2 guys are about 90 shooters, rest are higher than that. We plan to have a different two man team each round. so far we are thinking 4 ball, 4 ball match play, probably one round will be a type of scramble. I suggested a modified stableford team format, any ideas what the best points breakdown for that would be for golfers of this ability level? Any other formats that could be good?

Wife wants to go taste wines with another couple. I only have about one day of that in me, so I would like to play golf the second day. Can someone suggest a great course in that area. I am from flat Chicago, so impress me!! Would be willing to pay 80-150, and even play at twilight if that means a better course.

That's known as a hustlers swing What yardages were you playing total? I bet if you played tips of 6600+ they might struggle, or if the course had some forced carries etc.

What sort of structure in the range sessions did you get?

Need advice on bag configuration
SpacklersEdge replied to SpacklersEdge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My goal is not necessarily to STOP the ball, but rather to "carry" it past 200 yards in the air, and not land like a scud missle and roll out another 30 yards. What loft is typical to replace a 5W/3I? -
Clubs I carry are in my signature. My carry distances in the low end are about 168 - 6i, 180 - 5i, and any lower than that I would call "unpredictable". The issue I face is hitting greens from 190+, which I would guess a lot of people struggle with. I can for sure hit my 4i decently, but not always high enough to stop on a green from 185+. My 5w I hit well, and I like the club, but it has more of a low ball flight, shots will be 200-220 or a little more, but that's after roll. So when facing a green with bunkers in front or an elevated green from 190+, I just don't know what to hit. I was considering getting a Hybrid, but I am not sure what I would replace? Option A - Drop the 3I and put in a Hybrid? What loft? How far can I expect to hit it? Will it fly high enough to stop on a green from 200 yards? Option B, drop the 5W and replace with a Hybrid, same questions apply. Option C, something else you guys suggest? Should I be able to hit my 5W higher? Or are hybrids much higher than a 5w? My 5W is is only 18*.... Please let me know what you guys suggest, at this point I hit my 3I maybe once a round, and sometimes not at all, and I hit my 5W on second shots on par 5's, or on some longer par 3's, but it does get use.
