This is on #3 (par-5) from Friday's round. Dustin Johnson hit his tee shot in the water. He is discussing his drop with the rules official. His next shot ricocheted off a palm tree back into the water again. After a second drop, he made it to the green and 2-putted for a double.

I was there Friday. Weather sucked, but amazing to see the players and their golf from up close. Just mind blowing to see how well they strike the ball. They are in complete control and balance with beautiful tempo. Distances are off the charts. Lots of draw ball flights.

I'll have to add that to the list as well. Thanks.

I had not heard of President CC. That's not too far from where I will be. I am not able to book any tee times for last week of February (tried North Palm Beach CC, Palm Beach Gardens Muni & just now President CC). Tried golfnow as well. I dont think they take reservations for more than a week in advance. Not sure why that is? I hope it wont be a problem later on. -
classic! Now I really want to play there :)

Hmm.. I had not heard of National. Looks like it is ~3.5 miles from strip. Very close and reasonable price. Might have to look at that.
-
Thanks for the feedback. Yep, the cab fair is minimum of $100 RT to off strip locations. I am paying $139 at BH so it gets to be pretty close price wise. I heard the Wynn is $500. That's insane, but all is relative in life I guess.

North Palm Beach CC is 5 miles away. Might try that one. Maybe Palm Beach Gardens Municipal as well. Gonna try and get 3 rounds in. Thanks for the suggestions! -

This thread is 2 years old, but I am gonna be on Singer Island/Palm Beach Shores at the end of February. Are the suggestions above still valid? I would like to play somewhere nearby and inexpensively. Thanks. -
Update: Decided to play Bali Hai instead next time around. I am aware that it might be a little bit of a tourist trap and of the constant airport noise, but I got a good pre-paid rate and with the reduced cab fare (being on the strip) it will be a wash.

I am thinking I will try the Palm at Angel Park next. I am back again in March. Thanks again for you feedback Ay33660.
-
Ay33660, why do you feel Badlands is better? My playing partner yesterday mentioned Badlands too. Also, have you played the Palm course at Angel? If so, how is it? Thanks

So I played Angel Park yesterday (Mountain Course). Here is my feedback: * If you dont hit well, you dont have much chance to scramble as there are giant desert ditches along and intertwined most of the fairways. Its very hard to locate your ball in these let alone hit it from there. * The greens were very fast and quite sloped on many holes. Even with a most delicate tap the ball would often go rolling past the hole ~10 feet or so (on downhill putts and not so downhill putts alike). So I found the course to be quite challenging for my skill level. I am a 2nd year golfer at this point with a ~22 handicap. At my home course I am usually in the mid-high 90s. I had 3-4 blowup holes yesterday. Haven't had that happen in a while. Overall though I am glad I got to play a round of golf in January and appreciate the suggestion. Perhaps I might do better on the Palm Course next time. I am going to be back here in March. Cheers.

I have been working with a new instructor to try and improve my swing. Its work in progress right now, but in the mean time I have been battling a case of the shanks. My instructor is away for a bit so I can't run it by him yet, but I tried the drill below from David Leadbetter and it worked right away for me. Basically address the ball with the hosel and try and hit off the toe. I hit a couple off the toe (which is still 100 times better than a shank) and then magically hit center of clubhead. All decent shots..

Thanks for the feedback mmoan2. I am pretty sure you are right and that my swing mechanics are mostly the same whether the shot is perceived to be good or bad. Although in this case, it went beyond mechanics (I think). I believe that something gets turned off almost like a short circuiting. Then its quitting time and a full reset is needed. Time needs to elapse. Anyway, I decided to get additional instruction (with a pro) as the season is pretty much over where I am at. We are already tweaking my grip and stance as initial steps. Hope to come out the other end stronger (and better).

This is an older thread, but I had a similar experience today. I went to the dome to hit some balls. Hit a few with my wedges, irons, wood & driver. Maybe a little over ~30 total. All and all fairly decent shots...about what I am used to. Then something happened. Seemingly out of the blue. I wasn't able to hit ANYTHING. Went back to the wedge and started shanking. I tried multiple times on different irons as well and could not hit anything. It was really as if I had never hit a golf ball before and was a complete beginner. I am a relative beginner, but played over 80 rounds this season and have been shooting in the mid/high 90s for the past several weeks. This is so perplexing and I share many of the observations of the OP. It's as though all my muscle memory disappeared and/or my body just shut down! Needless to say this is a scary and demoralizing incident. I take some comfort from the comments above that things do turn around. What a strange sport.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am just gonna go with MConstantineJr's suggestion of Angel Park. Seems easy enough. If I wasn't short on time I would try and explore more..
-
Perfect. Thanks again!

Thank you for that. I see it is around ~13 miles from the hotel I will be at on the strip which should be an easy cab ride. There are 2 courses: Palm & Mountain. Any suggestion/recommendation as to which one?
-
I am going to be in Vegas in January and want to squeeze in a round of golf while there. Would like to find something as close to strip as possible (short on time) and inexpensive (no more than $100). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any pointers!

A couple of points I’ll make: * Timing is wrong. Being critical of your leader at the press conference immediately following the defeat in front of your leader and the world is disrespectful and hurtful to him and many others. There is etiquette on and OFF the course. Especially when you are part of a team. * Tom did not play in the event and cannot make birdies as a captain. 12 others did. All championship caliber players. They did not get the job done. * Last time Tom captained, they did win the cup. * Being sick of losing is a good thing and striving for positive change is a good thing. * Finally, I just bought your book and looking forward to reading it! :)

Phil was wrong. Seems pretty clear to me. You don't criticize your leader an hour after the end of the match in front of him and in front of the world's media. Classless. You win and lose as a team (Ryder Cup is a team event). Suck it up and give the the other team credit. Phil should have known better not to take the bait from the press. Furyk's remarks were appropriate. I wouldn't be surprised to see an apology forthcoming in the coming days.

Yes..Lots of golf courses here too :)
