So far I have just played around previewing courses on it. I won't be able to go out and play for another week and a half, so I will have to wait to see how it is on the course. But from just looking through course previews and looking at the maps, distances, etc, it seems like it is spot on. Does give you distances to hazards, as well as front, center, and back of green, which is nice. I will give a more detailed review about it after I play on the 15th.

Yeah, it does not happen very often. That one time in the fog though was beautiful.

Getting the first tee time in the fall, when its just cool enough to consider wearing a jacket, and its all quiet, with no one on the course, and you rip that beautiful drive through the fog into the the abyss that is the first fairway.

These are great. I need to come up with my own. Only ones I use are from the movie "Tin Cup" Whenever a friend is debating about what club to hit, the response is always, "I highly recommend the shovel." Not very creative :(

Thank god I am still single lol

What did you do today to feed your golf addiction?
Gerald Fritz replied to Sante TwoGloves's topic in Golf Talk
I've been considering buying a gps handheld or gps watch, and have been researching and looking for deals for the last couple days. -
Should probably take up bowling instead.

Played an interesting format last night ... ONE CLUB only. What a hoot!
Gerald Fritz replied to dave s's topic in Golf Talk
I have played an entire 9 holes with a 7-iron. Tried to copy Tin Cup. Actually did better with just a 7-iron, then I did with my other clubs. Goes to show you, this game is about consistency, and shot placement, not necessarily distance. -
Video: Guy teeing off pops it up, ball lands behind him
Gerald Fritz replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Talk
I used to tee it up very high, and once I popped it up once, but it went to my right, not backwards. Put a nice dent on the top of my driver. (Luckily it was a cheap $10 one I got on clearance). Needless to say I don't tee it up high anymore. -
Just love that feeling when you know you got all of it.

Nope, missed the putt. Figures, right. My game is starting to come together. Need to go get more lessons to get a little more consistency. -
So Im in the 18th fairway, after a horrible tee shot out of bounds, a bad third shot, and a 4th shot that I hit fat, I finally find myself on the right side of the fairway about to hit my 5th shot on this long par 5. Now playing this course before, and despite not even being able to see the green from where I was at due to trees lining the right side of the fairway, I know there is a huge bunker right in front of the green. Well, knowing that I am probably looking at a triple bogey on this hole or worse, I figured, what the hell, and pulled my 3-wood. (Sprinkler head next to the ball said it was 211 yes to the center of the green). (The trees to the right of the fairway, and the huge bunker in front of the green. I was on the far right side of the fairway about another 60 yards back>) So I set up and just wanting to put a good swing on it, and not even really caring where it went, I somehow manage to put one of the best swings of my life together, and the ball just took off like a rocket over the trees in the distance along the right side of the fairway. Get in the cart and start heading down, and I do not see my ball in front of the green at all, so Im thinking, oh yay, its probably in the bunker. SO drive up to the top of the hill at the green and I look, and I see my ball sitting on the green about 10 feet from the hole (Too the left, and above the pin). I look closer and I see my ball mark pin high about 5 feet to the left of the hole. Don't think I could do that again if I tried. So went and played the back 9 at Silverhorn Golf Course here in San Antonio, TX yesterday. Played pretty poorly, and shot a 62. But you know what they say, there is always one shot you have that will keep you coming back. (My ball to the back and left of the pin) My ball mark at the bottom of the pic, just a few feet left of the pin.

I've improved quite a bit. I still struggle with consistency, but so far this year I've been able to manage a few birdies, and more pars. (Broke 100 for the first time this year, and now I hover in the low 100s most of the time). I've eliminated a lot of the big numbers. I was struggling a little with putting and my short game earlier in the year, but have improved to the point where I rarely have a 3-putt. Still struggle off the tee a bit with the driver, but have almost eliminated my slice, and if I miss the fairway its either because I hit the ball fat or would just miss left or right. Learned how to hit a draw and a cut shot now. One of the big improvements for me though is just how I manage my game. On tight fairways, I'm more inclined to use a long iron or hybrid to try to keep myself out of trouble. Just need to become a little more consistent. Going to have to have another lesson here sometime soon.

Dick's out of the golf business all together?
Gerald Fritz replied to RonTheSavage's topic in Golf Talk
Hmmmm, maybe Dicks isn't doing well in the golf market because you can find the same equipment for about half the price on ebay or other golf outlets online. -
Yeah, I think if I got a hole in one on my first swing I would have just quit and been like, "yeah, I conquered this game." I personally think, that for me, its the failures that keep me coming back. I enjoy, and actually play better when I'm in trouble. Nothing makes me happier than pulling off a shot that I initially think is far-fetched. Of course the successes also keep me coming back. Honestly think one of the top 5 moments of my life was getting my first birdie ever the other day :)

Yeah, I just find it funny that I can come through in tough situations like that but then blow up on easier holes. Its a mental thing really. -

Just played again today, and after shooting a 98 last week, I am sad to announce that I have regressed a little this week by shooting a 111. My putting was just dreadful today and I was hooking everything badly (considering I normally have a slight fade to my swing). But not all was lost. Had 3 good shots from inside the bunkers. I also had this great opportunity. Par 4, this is where my tee shot ended up after just missing the fairway left by about 10 yards. Took my hybrid and just tried to punch it out towards the green and let it roll as close as possible. Then had a nice pitch shot and was able to save par. Then follow it up on the next hole, a short 122 yd par 3, and ended up with a 6. Just don't know how that is possible lol. -

Just got back from playing today, and finally broke 100 and shot a 98, Putting was average, hit a few shots fat that cost me a couple strokes as well. Good news about today though...I ended up in deep bunkers twice, and both times hit it out easily, which has me giddy with excitement because I suck at bunker shots. Basically, I need to work on my short game a bunch and get some more consistency with my woods and irons. -
I routinely play alone, but if the course staff asks me if I would pair up with another single or group, I will gladly say yes. As for playing through, I generally don't play through unless the group in front of me is very adamant that I do. I have no problem waiting when I'm playing alone. I played yesterday alone, and breezed through the front 9 in a little over an hour and then caught up with a group by hole 11. But the wait wasn't too long, and seeing that I had no one behind me, when I was asked if I wanted to play through, I politely declined.

I had a couple holes like that today as well. My putting had a lot of 3-putts on the front, but then had a few 1-putts on the back, which helped. -

Yeah it is.... I've had a few chances the last year and a half but I always missed the putt by just a bit. I seemed like that ball took forever to get into the hole. Now I just got to add more pars and eliminate the doubles and the triples from my scorecard. Just have to go play again next week ;) -

Just got back from playing another round. Was an interesting day. Started out doing pretty decent through 4 holes, and then the 5th and 6th came. Lost 3 balls on each hole, and just picked up after 10 strokes. Managed to close out the front 9 with a bogey, par, and triple-bogey. Had only one ball left in my bag, so after deciding to continue playing (although I was contemplating quitting after hole 6), I went into the clubhouse to buy another box of balls and finish my round. Finished the front 9 with a 58 (+23 over par). The back nine starts out alright, after a couple errant tee shots, I still managed to save bogey on 10 and 11. Then the 12th hole comes up, a 170 par-3. I pull a 4-iron, and just want to try to get it on the green. Bullseye!!!!! Landed right in the center pin high about 15 feet away. Now my nerves are shaking (because I have never once had a birdie in my life :( . I see it breaks slightly to the right, and my putting has been terrible at best all day. Took a deep breath, and let it roll....Boom!!!! right into the cup.... I am completely overjoyed to the point I almost throw my putter in the air in celebration of getting my first birdie ever, but I contain myself, and just do a fist pump in the air. I only have one par the rest of the way and finished the back 9 with a 51 (+15 over par). Could have been better, but my game started to suffer on the last 2 holes with an 8 and a 10. ugh. Finished with a 109. Take away those 3 really bad holes and I probably would of broken 100 for the first time. So all in all there were a lot of positives to take away from today. Got my first birdie, hit 3 fairways (Usually I am lucky to get 2) and I hit 3 GIRs. Converted one birdie attempt and 2 putted for par on one, and 3 putted for bogey on the other. Few things I need to work on, is more consistency with my woods and irons (Hit quite a few fat that ended up in the water), and work on my chipping and putting. But I am very pleased to see that I am making progress, and its leading to better scoring chances.
