  1. I'm in the market for a couple of hybrids and really liked the Callaway X series that I tried at a local demo day. I generally buy on demo days because fitting is free and you can test things out on a launch monitor (especially important when buying a driver). Having a wide variety of clubs to test doesn't hurt either. I had every intention of buying that day. However, most of the hybrids they had were fitted with very flexible shafts. They had one Aldila NV 85 S that I really smoked, but it had a tendancy to draw too much. I wanted to try a heaver and stiffer shaft (I've got an NV 105 X in my HiBore 25 right now). When I asked the rep he pretty much lost interest in me. He said they didn't have any and couldn't make one. I'm just wondering - have any of you had similar experiences buying a hybrid? They don't come w/ the fancy interchangeable shaft fitting system that drivers have so are you pretty much at the mercy of what's in the bag? I really don't like the idea of buying a club w/o being able to hit it first. I'm interested to hear what your experiences have been. -k

    Golfing Solo

I do feel a little sheepish telling people I play that much First, golf in central Kentucky isn't very expensive. I belong to a very nice club and only pay $1400/yr for a weekday membership - that covers 2 courses! So I don't pay a dime to play golf unless I go somewhere else. Second, I go very early in the morning. Its nice being one of the first people out in the morning - I can usually play 18 in about 3 hours. That makes up for the wet course and playing around the mowers It also helps not to break up my work day. I'm an independent consultant so I get to choose when I work to some extent. Of course the phone is always on. Another reason to play early - there's nobody to be bothered if my phone rings. -k

Absolutely! Its a great way to work on your game. Its also a great way to relax. I play once a week with some friends, 3 or 4 times a week solo. I really like both. -k
  4. All things being equal, the straighter the face the easier it is to work the ball. Having said that, many newer clubs with game-improvement features make it harder by design. -k
  5. Yeah, most of them can play, even the ones that have been booted off the show. The Euros especially seem to have well-rounded games. Lots of nasty gossip and backstabbing though. -k
  6. Right now there's only one way to answer the question. You have to say Jack is the greatest golfer of all time simply because his accomplishments dwarf those of everybody else (yes, even Tiger for the time being). Tiger, on the other hand, is the best in terms of ability. Hands down. Even Jack would agree with that. Once his accomplishments equal those of Nicklaus, (and they will) we'll look back and wonder why we even bothered to ask the question. -k
