These are some really good points. Trees, ponds, bunkers and entire holes can be changed and or moved at any point after any course was mapped out. That could account for a course not having the correct yardages. I guess I've been lucky so far in the four or five years that I've had the SG5 the yardages of only one out of about 45 courses was so out of wack I put it away and guessed for the remainder of the round. I picked up the SG5 with Aeroplan miles so I avoided paying the 299+ price tag at the time. But thinks I've kinda made up for that with paying $20 a year since. That's why I've just picked up the Skycaddie Watch, paid for with Air Miles this time and the box said "there are no annual fees for lifetime ownership of the unit. "I personally like to measure things myself"; me thinks had I bought the Laser unit I'd be saying the same. The only reson I chose the GPS is I thought was getting alot more but I guess I paid for these extras. Have you tried any phone apps? if so, which one(s) and what's your take?

"how many true blind shots do we ever really have?"...You only need to be on a course once that both the people you're playing with and yourself are not familiar with to realize the true value of knowing what lies ahead using a GPS vs not knowing with a Laser that the benefits of the GPS outwiegh the cons. "who doesn't walk to a point where you can see your target before hitting a blind shot?" I don't have to, the GPS lets me know what lies ahead and the yardage to any obstacles or hazards and how much to clear it. "However, I will say that the picture above is a decent example where it's not quite as easy to use a laser. There really isn't any "verticality," and without that, it's kind of hard to get good readings. Assuming that we're standing on the tee box, what I'd do here is attempt to shoot the bunker on the right, and then maybe the trees in the distance beyond the middle of the fairway to confirm my landing area window." While you were wasting time shooting objects and wondering if you got the correct object, I quickly glanced at my GPS and in less than 10 seconds got all the yardages I need to play the shot. " Further, I don't use my laser as much anymore on approach shots because I was recently convinced (by somebody a lot smarter than me when it comes to golf) that the flag location is not all that important. " Unless you're on tour and I don't mean the hackers tour, you only need to know the front edge and middle to any green, that's not rocket science. Cheers .

Any golf shoes made to work with Orthotics?
abovepar03 replied to Dstob's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
That works, are they BOA style or lace ups?. Let me know how you guys make out though the summer. My older Contours lost their water proof quality near year end last year...they where bought in the spring at $150. I'm dassapointed. On the up side they are the most comfortable golf shoes ever so I bought a new pair for 19.95 at GolfTown on a one day online sale. I also own a set of lace up Contours; the pointed ones with holes down the sides of the lace area and find that the heel area wore through just after three rounds. -

I can't wear any type of shoe/sneaker without special insoles for more than a day without getting back pain. The ones at Costco work great fo me and I put them in all my footwear. It is always recommended to remove the original insoles. I have Footjoy Contours with BOA and True Links for hotter days and they work great. Hope this was helpfull. -
Before you spend money on a laser are you sure that it will be an adventage for you. I also use a phone App but have a Skycaddie GPS. The laser has a major dissadvantage over the GPS or your phone App. It will not help you on a blind shot. Even though I have a membership I play when out of town and must say that getting yardages for prominent trees, ponds, bunkers and distances to the end of a fairway both helps speed up play and takes my bad memory factor out. And it dosen't end there I can transfer my round when I get home with the GPS to view later or set up my App to transfer the round automatically. Their is however a downside... Apps and GPS may not be as accurate as the laser and some GPS like Skycaddie will require a yearly fee to even use it. For this reason I will be discontinuing the use of my Skycaddie. I've ordered a GPS watch that will have a free for life golf course downloads, (promo available this year only) and got it with air miles with no out of pocket cash.

Questions on Golf Balls
abovepar03 replied to marvin's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Basicaly golf balls are rated by being spin, control, feel and distance types and all with different compressions. The problem begins for any golfer that generates too much side spin. The higher the swing speed the more side spin can be induced. Better players tend to have a more sound swing creating less side spin. So when they get to the green they need more back spin to hold the green which can be found in higher priced Urathane cover balls. Lower compression golf balls tend to have more control because they remove more side spin. Your Pro V1 has a higher compression than say a DT SOLO. So the theory is: the lower the compression you use, the more you can take advantage of a straighter ball. When you find the right compression and "spin, control, feel or distance for your swing then you're onto something. I like the tree piece mid compression Callaway HX Diablo tour for its true flight, good feel, good distance and has enough spin to help stop on the greens but keeps my shots out of the wooded area. (for my 90+ mph swing speed) I'll be trying the new Nike RZN's this year also because I liked the last year's RZN. Didn't car for the 20Xi s. also find Pro V1 balls and agree that someone is wasting their money. Find the ball that fits your swing. Knetgolf.com has sugestions on ways of finding the right ball for you. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
abovepar03 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
It's tough not to when it's all so shinny and new and buy-able. -
No she is a Castle from Cregmore. And yes I also was foolish enough to turn down a power cart at Dundarave. Two of the holes easily measure one KM apart. Poor layout. We like our push carts alot. Great to meet you guys.

Yes...resist the urge that somehow a tour level ball will help any part of your game. I buy used golf balls and like the Nike RZN and Callaway HX Diablo Tour. They are moderately priced and have less spin that helps me stay out of the woods. Also because I hit down on my shorter irons I can't keep thin covered ball in play for more than one round. -
Foot Joy Contours with BOA and True Links for the hot days.

I regrip once a year, enjoy the work so I install them and pay less than retail.

I've watched most of his his vids from this and last year. He is funny, knows his stuff and can hold his own on the course. I would rather less talk when he adresses the ball...hit then review.
