  2. Very cool. My son's two favorite things brought together.
  3. I just read that ESPN / CBS are using this in the corner during the Masters:
  4. That was just my guess when I first saw it. I could be completely off base. It just follows what I know of the "logic pattern" of TV executives.
  5. I've met several people who have told me they do not know what par means. I don't know why you would just assume everyone knows what par means. Most people probably have heard the term but that does not mean they know what it really means. The world is a big place and believe it or not, golf is not a universally understood sport. To the question about where I was when golf was on and I had no idea about what was going on, the one that sticks out to me was during the 2012 Ryder cup and I was at the South Point sports book in Vegas to watch football. Every NFL game was on as was the Ryder cup and I had no clue what was going on if I didn't ask. There have been other occasions in clubhouses where the sound was down and it was just basically people hitting shots but that was several years ago. I think it's fine but if you guys really don't like it, here is a list of contacts at NBC sports. http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/sports/nbcsports/contacts
  6. I've been in bars and sports book rooms where golf was on and I had no idea what the shot was or par or anything really and it was very frustrating so I like the new graphic. Mr. Barzeski: I can guarantee you that the people working for NBC did more than just dabble in graphic design to land a job in their sports graphics department. There is also a 99% chance that there were meetings and focus groups before the change was made. Network TV is the definition of "group-think graveyard" where good ideas go to die... so a group of people in charge made these changes and sent out the memo to the announcers that they had to talk about them every 5 minutes. To me it is obvious that this change is designed to inform the very very casual viewer who may be watching in a bar setting and does not necessarily know what Par means. You and I and everyone on this forum are hardcore golf fans and like it or not, the network people do not care if we are annoyed by the graphic because they know we are going to be watching anyway. The changes were not for us. I agree with several points in this thread that there could be even more useful information given out. Really though... It's really not a big deal at the end of the day. Seriously... how angry can you really be if you are living a life that allows you to watch golf for fun. I am as guilty of it as the next person of being annoyed by little things but if the fact that some tiny letters and numbers aren't laid out the way you would prefer is really that upsetting than some perspective needs to be had. 7. I can only find one "injury" for Ernie Els and that was his knee in 2005... that he injured while sailing. Darren
  8. Some (if not all) of Scott's collapse has to be attributed to the flu he had. He looked exhausted in his interview pre-round on Saturday and admitted that he got "knocked around a bit" by the flu. He may have even been taking antihistamines or some other OTC medication and that stuff could easily have an effect on your ability to putt.
  9. I purchased this book about 3 weeks ago because what I could tell from the previews and lurking on this site for a while is that Utley's method matched what my son has always done despite me telling him to stop using his wrists so much and to follow the Pelz method of "SCIENCE!"... the problem for me being that my son has chipped in more shots in 8 years of playing (since age 4) than I have in my entire life so he would just ignore me. This was the first I had heard of a teacher advocating a more "wristy" swing than the Pelz "All big muscles, all the time" approach and thought this would fit his game better which it definitely has. It has still been an adjustment for him because he wasn't keeping his weight on his left side enough and was "all" arms and wrists instead of power coming from the left leg pivot but with a little practice he loves it already and I do as well. The ball contact is just so much more "pure" (for lack of a better word) and more importantly seems to be repeatable... so far... we will have to see how it fares under pressure which is where Pelz says the small muscle swings fall apart. I have a different theory on how to handle pressure so it can't effect the small muscles but that probably belongs in another thread.
  10. I think he tried to increase muscle mass for some reason. I saw the replay of his win at the Palmer Invitational last year and he either started wearing smaller shirts this year or he packed on quite a bit of muscle. I know that has been discussed before but with this news I am thinking it may have possibly been done in an effort to 'strengthen the area around the injury" which is what was recommended to me when I complained about knee pain. (pure speculation on my part) His swing is so violent... plus his back has a lot of waffle waitress miles on it. He is good for the game though so I would like to see him come back and be competitive again.
  11. Ángel Cabrera -10 Zach Johnson - 9 Victor Dubuisson -9
  12. Here is an album of Masters pictures to use as wallpapers on your computer. http://imgur.com/a/mChCF Here is how to set up a folder to use as a background slideshow so you can save them all and they will change on their own: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/create-a-desktop-background-slide-show
  13. I should have said "permanent shot clock". It's a shame that it is needed but it looks like it is.
  14. That tournament was a classic example of 1) The importance of the short game. 2) The need for a shot clock. Kuchar may not "win" a lot but he gets to play golf for a living and makes a heck of a lot of money doing it. That is a big winner in my book.
  15. I can sometimes forgive a player who takes a long time IF they hit a great shot... sometimes, but when they take forever and then hit a $h!t shot it is too much to take. "While we're young" becomes "Before I kill you" pretty quickly. Darren
