  1. Friction of the club face. More friction = more spin.
  2. I agree. I felt bad about losing the 60 bucks...but I don't think I'll regret it in the long run.
  3. I'm 34 years old. I played for about 3 years in high school. I picked back up heavily about 2 years ago. I've been playing with my first set of irons(20 year old clubs), Top Flight Tours. I had gotten "decent" at hitting them, even the long irons. I decided to upgrade. I wasn't sure what to buy... Went to golf smith. I liked the Ping s57's because they looked similar to my old clubs. They recommended a forgiving club, the TM burner plus irons...said the s57's would be tough to hit. I didn't feel good about getting them because they felt bulkey to me. I bought the TM burners with a bad feeling... Hit them at the range. Hook city. The clubs had crazy offset, were bulkey, and hard to control. I took em back. Lost about 60 bucks on the 90/10 refund deal. Bought the s57s with S300 shafts. OMG. They rock! A sweet feeling when I strike the ball. They still have a little more offset than my old clubs, but I think I can get used to them. Thin and crisp. I can actually put back spin on the ball now... Anybody else use the s57s?
  4. not sure about the floating green. I bought a 10 dollar swimming pool from walmart and i practice chipping into it in my back yard. It's about 5 feet in diameter.
  5. Thanks everyone for the feedback... It sounds like the crossline full cords are the way to go.
  6. Can anyone recommend a particular grip for playing in high humid weather? I noticed this weekend, while playing in 90+ degree weather, my hands started slipping a bit on the back nine. I tried drying off my glove and grips before every shot, but my grip still felt a little slippery. Thanks in advance for any advice...
  7. I've tried. It pisses my wife off
  8. In times when I can't get to the range, would practicing with air flow golf balls hurt rather than help? I chip around the house with these balls sometimes for practice...
  9. Thanks. I see what your talking about from the images. I think the 49 image is an extreme case of what i'm talking about. I only mean a "slight" roll of the right wrist over the left. Regarding my rotation and club head lag, i'll work on this and perhaps it's the source of my chunking...thanks for the advice. Check out #7 on this page: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...2/ai_76167189/
  10. Look at Kenny's club head right at (and after) impact. It turns to the left slightly. This will produce a right to left ball flight...
  11. Yes, I did what you did. However, I don't think this is all bad. You squared up the club head, which is good. I think after practice, you (and I) will eventually have a natural feeling swing that won't feel like a "scoop". My slice was so bad that I basically tried to learn how to hook the ball. At first it did feel like a "scoop". However, I've gradually transitioned more to a slight "roll"...it's starting to feel more natural. Check out Kenny Perry's swing. He looks like he rolls through the ball...I could be wrong. At any rate, i've gotta figure out my iron chunking now :( Thanks for the posts everyone.
  12. If you're a beginner like me...stay on the range until you can hit the ball straight. If you practice on a course and you can't hit the ball straight, you'll only get frustrated when you spend most of your time hitting out of the woods. That's just my two cents...
  13. Hello all! Nice to be back on the boards. Here is my issue...any suggestions are greatly appreciated. My iron play used to be the best part of my game. My driver was banana city. With practice, i've pretty much cured the driver slice. I can hit right to left pretty good now. Here's what I did to fix it: 1. Right elbow tucked in to side on downswing. 2. Square up the club face by slightly rolling right hand over left on impact. (Shake hands with the target) Now I'm chunking the heck out of my irons...really bad. Please help.
  14. That sounds like good advice. I'll try to work the shorter clubs next trip. I think I'm just being impatient. My swing has always had a bad fade, and I've always gotten by by adjusting the club face and/or my stance (i.e. stand a little to the left). I finally decided to byte the bullet and fix my swing, but it's frustrating because it feels like I'm starting all over...
  15. We'll...I agree that hitting 80+ is probably bad. However, It was one of those days when I felt like I had found something in my swing, and I did not want to lose it. So I kept on hitting... As far as the 4 iron. It's one of the hardest clubs to hit. I've always told myself if I can control the 4 iron, the others will be easy. Maybe this thinking is wrong...
  16. Last weekend I played 18 holes and shot in the 90's, which is extremely good for me. I had been working on curing my out-in swing path before my round of golf. Instead of trying the new swing during my round of golf, I stuck with the old swing cause I knew I wasn't ready to change swings. After the round, I went to the range and hit about 200 balls with my 4 iron. After about 50 of the 200, I felt like I had finally cured my slice and was swinging in-out/ in-in. I could control the ball pretty well (i.e. make it draw and fade when I wanted). I left with absolute confidence that I had finally found the key to my swing.... Today, I went to the range and hit about 100 balls with my 4 iron. I was hitting fat, thin, hooks, slices, tops...it was horrible. I couldn't find any grove whatsoever. After a bucket of pure horror, I just left. It's like I've taken a huge step back. Someone, please tell me this is normal when trying to learn a new swing... Should I just take a few lessons from the local pro?
  17. Try this: Assuming your a righty, on your back swing and down swing, keep your right elbow tucked slugly against your side/hip. Does this for two or three trips to the range. It'll feel wierd, but you'll learn a new swing path. Once you train yourself the new swing path, you can eventually ease your elbow out naturally. I cured my slice this way. Be warned however, the above method causes you to chunk; which is what i'm trying to cure now. :)
  18. Just curious about the number of people on here who can control thier swing to the point of hitting a fade or draw when they try to. I just learned how to do this (for the most part), and am wondering how basic or advanced this is. I haven't played much on courses. Mostly kept to the range cause I don't want to hold everyone up. Thanks.
  19. Tiger...hands down. He's robotic and will eventually beat Jack's record. However, I've always admired both golfers.
