  1. Alright, here are what I approximate my distances at. I feel like the distances I hit at the range are definitely a little shorter due to the crappy range balls....and I haven't really taken the time to calculate shots on the course. I would really like to know if these seem reasonable for someone of my handicap...don't be afraid to knock me down a peg or two...haha. Driver-235-250 3w-220 5w-200-210 4hy-180-200 4i-170 5i-160 6i-150 7i-140 8i-130 9i-120 PW-110 SW-75-80 LW-50 I definitely need to add a GW to cover some distance between the PW and SW...could probably take out the 5wood to make some room since there is a little overlap between it and the hybrid. Anyone have any better suggestions?
  2. I have battled a bad slice off the tee in my early days of playing golf. I am still new to the game, but I have become much more consistant hitting the ball straight off the tee. I even hit a draw every once in a while (just can't seem to do it when I want to). I have noticed, however, that my drives are usually very low and I can't help but feel like its hurting my distance. I am not a long hitter by any stretch of the imagination so I need every yard I can get. My driver is a 10.5* loft...I just think that I am hitting the ball too low on the clubface. Anybody have recommendations on how I can get the ball up a little bit?
  3. I guess I'll be the high handicapper to lowball this thread...everything I have is either used or bought on closeout, but hey they get me playing right? Driver--$60 Woods--$30 Hybrid--$35 Irons--$75 Weges--$15 Putter--$5 Bag--$20 I will upgrade my clubs to some shiny new ones once my game has upgraded a little bit.
  4. I am only entering my 2nd season of playing golf...last year ended with me breaking the head off of my Callaway clone driver (which I paid about $10 for). Needless to say I didn't think it was worth getting fixed. I am admittedly very inconsistent with my swing and usually hit a slight fade (and sometimes a NASTY slice) which has made me play some 2nd shots from the wrong fairway (fairway on the next hole....). I had my mind set on the Taylormade Burner Draw after hitting it at the driving range a few swings and in the simulator at Dick's. Well when I actually went to buy the club, the salesman questioned why I wanted the draw version. He was an older gentleman who seemed to have a great deal of experience as well as good intentions. I went and hit the Draw driver into the net a few times. Then the salesman gave me a few pointers for my swing and grip. The new swing felt weird, but I could tell I was making solid contact. I then hit the regular version of the Burner, but mentioned that the $150 price tag on the Draw version was pretty much my limit. He then went and picked out another driver...a Walter Hagen MS/2 driver with Aldila shaft which was on closeout. I hit the club a few times and it felt quite comfortable. Long story slightly shorter, I walked out the door with the Hagen club (and some swing tips) for $50 bucks (original price tag said $180). I know the Hagen club is probably not as high quality as the Taylormade club, but the salesman did mention that if anything went wrong with the club he would take care of it. I walked out of the store feeling good about saving some $$...do you think this was a better decision than my initial plan?
  5. I'm a college student for one more semester. Hoping to work at the local course this summer doing some maintenance (which = free golf!) before entering the "real world".
  6. I think I fall into the mold mentioned in the Golf Digest article posted above. If I am going to slice a ball its simply my incorrect swing. I don't really notice that I miss hit balls more or less with a driver compared to a 3W....so I figure I might as well let it fly with the driver.
  7. Probably a nice and easy 5 wood
