  1. Best advice ever with the practice swing, at least until someone is comfortable with where to set up with their various clubs. Earlier in the year this became part of my swing setup and has helped me tremendously.
  2. Actually I slice quite a bit, but that seems to be getting better with a grip repair I made where I focus on setting up proper pressure in some key points of my gip. I'm also starting to work on keeping my back a little straighter during setup and swing.
  3. Thanks Shankapotamus, I noticed that too. As you can see I have a larg upper body compared to my lower, meaning it takes a dominant step in almost anything I do, golf swing included. I'm not too sure about my wrist hinging at impact either, it looked to me like I stop pulling my left arm and allow my right arm to push the club through and create a hinge.
  4. Wow.....I know I have a long way to go, but after taking a video and watching it I dont like it even more lol. For any who like to offer advice, critique etc here is my swing. Please note that at 31 seconds it is a second swing, one that I have started using more recently as it feels more comfortable. It uses the right arm more to drive the club through the swing. And please dont be worried about being gentle :)
  5. My apologies if this has been done before.....but what type of putter do you use? Blade? Mallet? Peripheral Weighted?
  6. Last trip I picked up a new golf glove ( lost it out of my back pocket in previous round lol ) and a Callaway hat while I was there. Next trip will be for balls and some tees....just about out.
  7. Like has already been said, short game. I chip in the yard and putt in the house almost daily and it's paid off. I still suffer bad tee shots, thin iron shots etc....but once I get within wedge distance, I have confidence in that game now. I started with putting in the house. It's the most used club in my bag and easy to do. I just focused on building my swing, what felt comfortable for me. Then I moved to my chipping. I have a bucket and I chip into it ( or at least try :) ) Once I get within wedge range I know I can do what I need to, whether it is a pitch or chip on. With my wedge game, I've worked on shortening up my club by choking down for control. I also had my putter cut down ( I'm only 5'4" ) Right now the biggest change I have made is with my general grip. I've found a setup system with it that works well for me. I call it my 1-2-3 setup because as I grip the club I identify and focus the three areas I want to feel in my hands ( finger pads of first 3 fingers on left hand, pad of right hand where it lays against left hand and index finger of right hand ) Once I set these up and remain counscious of how they feel, I get better control. My shots are generally on my line now, with my only problem being coming up short or going to far.
  8. So I have heard alot about the benefits of lessons, and I myself dont doubt them at all. I've considered taking some, but I currently use a swing style that I feel wouldnt mesh with a teacher. Over the summer I've adopted a hitting style ( golfing machine ) getting my right arm involved. It has lead to improvement in control and consistency. If you were me would you take a lesson with someone who will coach back into a swinging style, or just keep at the hitting style ( no teachers in my area who use it )
  9. Anyone played or owned anything from Nickent? I'm looking to replace some sticks this winter ( I'm in canada, so since I can't golf all I can do to satisfy the urge is buy new clubs :) ) and had heard some good things about Nickent. Right now I'm playing '02 Big Berthas and a S2H2 Bg Bertha 3 Wood. I am a high handicapper and we'll leave the scores at that What I've heard rave reviews about it their hybrids, which I could really use as my drives are 200 ish, so on par 5's or long par 4's I need a big second shot. Anyone out there owned anything from Nickent? How would they measure up compared to my Bertha's? ( On a side note, I sometimes find the Bertha clubhead a little too big and bulky for my liking ) One of their most appealing features to me is cost, so long as they can live up to a level of performance.
  10. I do it all the time. It even helps that one room in my house has a slight break in the floor, which makes it even funner.
  11. After doing some experimenting with my grip I've found that my previous grip was possibly a little weak. When I grip my club I place it in my left hand, with the club laying across the base of my pinky and the middle pad of my forefinger. From there I use an interlocking grip. I have found that with my hand size, using this grip the club is being pulled more into my palm. I have small hands to start with so I may go back to playing with a ten finger grip as i used to before an instructor got me on the interlock grip ( he uses it with ALL of his clients)
  12. I've had the same problems previously. Similar to you I used to hit my 3wood instead of my driver off the tee because I was more accurate with it and didnt really lose distance. During my own experience, I found I was trying to swing to hard ( mentally trying to make up for the use of the 3 wood ) because my regular partner was an ace with his driver. Tee shot after tee shot he would hit to 300 or just over yards ( his short game was atrocious, but a drive like that can help bridge the gap at times ) The only way I could correct it was to slow down and not try to smash the ball. I just let my swing happen. Consequently I took this same approach with my driver and now I use it regularly ( i still slice, but i also have some great shots with it )
  13. I feel I've always had a pretty neutral grip, but things have never felt comfortable to me. Sad part is I was out with my sons tonight chipping in the yard and I took one of their wedges which was LH.......2 out of 4 balls went right in the bucket from about 10 yards out.........and I play RH.
  14. Hi, I'm new to the forums. I've been golfing for 2.5 years now ( still new ) and we won't discuss handicap right now I'm a short guy at 5'4" but have very long arms ( 28 1/4 " from ground to wrist bend) and very wide shoulders. I have a tendancy to slice which I know is being caused by bringing the clubface back to the ball in an open manner. On Friday I put in a round, and as I was working my way through the 18 holes I had a thought ....." What if I turned my left hand more clockwise around the club, so that it might be more prone to pull it back to a square/less open contact position?" I tried it out with some better shots. Then on hole 18 into the wind, I had the best drive out of our group, the only one to hit the fairway. Anyway, is this a sound method for improving this problem or am I just opening the door to future problems? My train of thought was that due to my excessively wide shoulders, further turning over of the hands might be needed. Furthermore, anyone out there with any other tips for shorter/wider shoulder golfers?
  15. I am the same way. Now I make sure I have time before to either hit some balls at the range first or to do some swing drills to get warmed up. It makes a huge difference.
  16. I've always used my left and have never even considered switching. I might have to try it out as my aim needs work right now.
  17. Best thing that ever help me was the feet together drill. Helped me get a great feel for swinging the golf club and how my body turns.
