Just got this driver 9.5* Stiff flex and couldn't be more happy. Today was the first time hitting/playing with it. Every hole I would hit 2 balls just to get more used to the club. 11 holes, or 22 times, I swung the driver and 3 of the times I hit +300 yds. This driver is no joke. I am super happy with this purchase. Not only is it super long, but I can push a fade or pull a draw nicely. Ball flight is perfect. The sucker just rises and rises until it disappears. As of lately, I have been shooting in the mid 90's because my tee box presence has totally escaped me. Today I shot an 87 due to not loosing balls off the tee box. Give this club a shot! I LOVE it!!!!

Has anyone retired their driver in favor of a 3w?
dbrock504 replied to cnl390's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That's right. I was just told today as I was regripping my driver at Dick's that the mini will drop May 2nd. Isn''t it unbelievable how often they release clubs? -
I see. Thank you sir.

You're getting it! However, I think another issue that is overlooked is the offset. I don't know the difference in offset between the G and I series, but I know most GI clubs offer a decent amount of offset to also help ball flight get up there to hold more greens. I'm pretty sure the "better player" designed irons have little offset. I assume the G25 have a noticeable amount of offset in comparison to the i25's.

Question though guys. How do I get a signature with my equipment in it like you guys? Also, thanks to all the guys mostly who respond. Nice guys. That always seems to be an issue in blogs; people are *******s and condescending.

No sir. The advantage to having a thinner sole is an increased feel and contact allowing for more workability. The reason for a more rounded GI club is to weed out that ability to chuck/thin shots so often. However, it comes at a cost, workability. I can't shape my Callaway X Hot at all in comparison to my friends Callaway X Forged blades. Some people really like the feedback a thinner sole can provide. Me? I just want to play a good round. It really all lies in your personal preference. I'm sure there is a lot more to the "sole" conversation, that is just what I was told and experienced. Also to your rough reference: Think of it this way as well. Most clubs with a sharper sole are thinner, thus being lighter head. A club with a fatter sole will have more weight to its head allowing it to get through that rough better and not get as "caught up". That would be my redneck thought process haha

I would like to see your swing. Hitting your driver that far, one can assume you have a swing speed of 110+. I posted my distances above and my swing speed is 107 mph avg. If you can't hit 8i 150+, it generally means you have a sub 95 mph swing. Not to mention, you have pretty big gaps in your distances (3w 230 driver 275). Does this make things difficult for you at times?

I have had my Addidas Tour 360 now for 2 years. Because I play so often, I need to get a new pair. What is your favorite shoe and why? I loved the 360's however they were super heavy. FootJoy is a little too "old school" for me. Thinking about the AdiZero's. Thanks!

Great, Greg! That's why I had added the fact that being a good ball striker is more important that your hcp. Good luck in finding whatever clubs you prefer. As long as it makes you enjoy the game more; it's all that matters!

I'm not arguing by any means, but the longer the shaft, the more increased swing speed you are able to develop. Shortening the shaft or choking up on it will give you a better control and feel for the head on impact thus making cleaner contact. Maybe you are just hitting the sweet spot of the club now. But increasing your swing speed by shortening your club 2" is almost a guaranteed false comment. Then again, I haven't seen your numbers, I'm simply relying on Physics. -
Ping G20 3 wood or Callaway X Hot?
dbrock504 replied to Big Daddy Joe's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the Taylormade RBz stage 2 and don't regret it one bit. I got the Callaway X Hot iron set (4-aw) for 2013 Christmas and decided to try out the 3 wood and driver just for the fun of it at Golfmsith one day. I'm really wish I didn't love my RBz stage 2 so much or else I would get it. I too tee off with a 3 wood mostly. However, I did just buy the X Hot driver today. Can't wait to play it. See what I did there? ;) -
Driver and putter suggestions for a Lefty?
dbrock504 replied to CJ41's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Obviously, try them all out, but I love my Odyssey Metal-X 2 ball style putter. I put a midsize grip, and that sucker is awesome. Exceptional feel. For the driver, I have had a lot of trouble finding one that works for me on the course. I just bought a Callaway X Hot 9.5* Stiff, but I haven't played with it, only been fit to it. I hit my Taylormade RBz stage 2 3 wood on every hole, the Ping G10 driver just stays in the bag. I hit the 3 wood 275 all day. Love the club to death. -

Another conversation in itself, but this is so true. I played baseball for 16 years so I get that "attack" swing easily. Gotta slow it down all the time and let the sucker do the rest. When I do, 3 wood will go 275. -

Yes! I have a PING G10 driver and can't hit the thing. I've put 3 different shafts in it and don't want to spend the money to put a really good one in it. I use my Taylormade Rbz2 3 wood on every tee box that is 275+. I did however just order the Callaway X Hot driver, but I played with just my 3 wood for 2 years as I was never able to get that driver down. The G10 had its days, but that's about it. Tiger rarely uses his driver. Don't do something because your buddies do it; do what works for you! I can hit my 3 wood as far or farther than most hit their driver. So I will probably use my 3 wood on 75% of the tee boxes still. -
Replacing my Nike Ignite 001
dbrock504 replied to Metzexpress4's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I really love my Odyssey Metal-X. Great feel but not TOO soft like the White Ice. As for the grip; I put the 3.0 Super Stroke on there and it totally took the feel out. So now I have a Winn midsize grip and it works very well for me. -
My friend is about a 20 handicap or more and he bought the i20's. He loved them on the simulator and got fit for them, but didn't take into account he was in a controlled environment on a turf pad. The "i" series is geared more toward the low-mid handicap player. The sole (bottom) of the club is "sharper". It doesn't have near the forgiving bell shape, thus making my buddy chunk all of his shots. Remember, it isn't your handicap that matters as much as the level of ball striker you are. You need to be hitting your 8 iron 150+ to upgrade to a stiff shaft and notice it helping properly. If not, like my buddy, your distance and ball flight will suffer. I am a 15 hcp and I tried everything under the sun on the simulator. What ended up being the best for me? Callaway X Hot stiff flex. Best clubs I have ever owned. Dropped 3 avg strokes immediately. I was between them and the G25's. My friend who is a 5 hcp plays the i25's and absolutely loves them. Good luck in finding your match. Dylan

Callaway is a good brand, so they aren't cheap. You get what you pay for. However I absolutely LOVE my irons. Dropped 5 strokes immediately. Getting the driver soon. Dylan

I really never could get this driver to work for me. 2 shafts later, it's going to be sold. Dylan

Best previous model 3 woods that are still relevant
dbrock504 replied to dwade247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I bought a used Taylormade RBZ stage 2 3 wood standard lie and I absolutely love it. I don't even hit my PING G10 driver anymore. I consistently hit this club 275 and sometimes even more. I got the club for $67 and it was essentially in brand new condition. The one thing I do urge you to do is go try different flexes. This rocketfuel shaft is a bit stiffer so I went with a regular shaft when everything else in my bag is stiff. Dylan -

I had a Wilson Di9 56* and never could get used to it. I decided to give this wedge a shot (same degree, 56), and I have to say, one of the best things I have put in my bag. My consistency has tripled and my chipping has become the best part of my game. Great feel off of the fringe and out of bunkers. The only negative thing I can say about it is that I can't hit a SW 100 yds anymore. For some reason, I can only get about 80 yds out of it now. It produces a ton of backspin and I'm able to hold greens a lot more now. I really enjoy this wedge. Dylan
