    Breaking 85

I'm on the cusp of breaking 90, so take this for what's it's worth but I don't think you can score low 80's without consistently striking drives and irons. If you can consistently hit any club at least 75% of it's expected distance and within a decent degree of straight then you just have to make solid chips from nGIR and avoid really dumb strategies. But if you're chunking stuff 50 yds a couple times, blading a couple more those add up quickly. And especially so if you can't get up and down in 2, which doesn't seem like a reliable expectation to me when you're shooting mid-80s. I was +5 yesterday going into 9, hit my drive left into tall grass and rather than taking my medicine like someone on here said earlier, I hacked out in 4. Then I was pissed and dumped a 5W into the lake for a 10. So a 42 (bogey) turned into a 45 in just 1 freaking hole because of stupidity!
  2. We adjust in my league, and then in stroke play you get strokes on the holes with the smallest handicap number. So if you're a 5 and the other guy is a 3 you'll get a stroke on the #1 and #2 handicap holes then play straight-up on the other holes. I believe in you're example you'd take 1 stroke off holes with handicap #s 1-10.
  3. 45 in my league last night, with a 7 on #1 and 10 on #9! Should have taken an unplayable or hit provisional on my drive on #9, stubborn instead and took me 3 shots to get out of woods/high grass. On the plus side, been working on "steady head" Key for the last week and didn't flub or chunk any shots for a chance! Skulled a few, but those went 75% of their intended distance which is better than a 20 yd chunk and finally broke 250 with the driver on one hole. Progress!
  4. Couldn't agree more! $70+ for a freaking "golf" polo shirt or pair of shorts?! $150+ for a pair of shoes! $400 for a driver?! They're all fighting for that upper middle class (or higher) customer, since that's the only demographic that spends any considerable amount of money anymore. But on the flip side, I bet they'd generate less revenue if they cut the price of clubs. It would just shift the entire price bands downwards, so stuff on EBay would be half what it costs now and the bulk of players would still buy from that secondary market. If they want to sell new they have to find a way to kill the secondary market, most likely through some kind of DRM-type technology. That's easier with digital goods than it is physical goods, but don't surprised when they figure it out! Aside from getting fitted for a set of irons, anyone that buys retail is just throwing money away. There's dozens of drivers, woods and wedges available on EBay every day. And it's just a few bucks to have them re-gripped or the shaft tweaked from there. I've built an entire woods and wedges collection for less than $300 on EBay over the past 2 months and none of the clubs are more than 2 years old or look any different than if I bought them at retail and played for a couple weeks. Even for irons, I'd at least look at the secondary market first and take them to a pro to have them tweaked for me.
  5. Real bummer, I was just in dicks yesterday and very disappointed in the selection of golf shoes. I hope this didn't include letting go of pros at the golf galaxy locations, I really liked the pro at the one by me.
  6. Never heard of this but looks interesting. Bummed that old seasons aren't on Netflix!
