  1. Ever wondered where the golfing term "birdie" comes from? It seems we have an American named Ab Smith to thank. While striding around a course in 1899, he played what he described as a "bird of a shot", which became "birdie" over time. ("Bird" was 19th American slang for anything really, really good. Kind of like "cool" is for us.) http://uktv.co.uk/dave/item/aid/601381
  2. I would appreciate this is well. I lost a week worth of playing because I did not stretch properly.
  3. Thank you all for the responses via replies and IMs. So much to work on... so much fun too. I thank you all for your input and I will work on your suggestions this week. Next weekend I will post another view of my swing from behind as well as from the side, so that you all can see all the NEW bad habits I have inadvertently picked up. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions. What a wonderful forum here. Happy golfing everyone!
  4. Heya everyone, I just started playing about 2 weeks ago. I went through a bucket of balls before my first lesson and that was the extent of my golf experience. Had my first lesson 2 weeks ago. But I was careless about stretching and strained a muscle between my ribs. I had to take the next week or so off while it healed. Everything feels fine now and I have had exactly two half hour swing lessons. But given that my lessons are only once a week, I was hoping to get some advice from everyone on some things I am doing wrong. Yes I know there will be a million things wrong, but don't be shy with your critiques. Tough love people, I can take it! I uploaded a video of 4 swings from behind with a 3 iron off the tee and it can be viewed here: I'll post the side view tomorrow as well. Any and all advice, suggestions, or comments are appreciated and what a great forum. Glad I found it!
