  2. Thanks, I just downloaded his book yesterday. Glad to know you give it a good review.
  3. I'm fatter, weaker, and tighter than I've ever been, and have decided it is stupid to try to make major changes in my golf swing until I make major changes in my body. I'm a data nerd and like to quantify/measure everything I can, and I'd like to be able to chart my progress in this endeavor. Weight is obviously easily tracked (and body fat%), and strength lends itself to measurement, but what's the best way to measure my flexibility and mobility, particularly golf related? If anyone has any resources or ideas, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
  4. When I was about a 5 handicap, I had 5 birdies and an eagle in a row (with a triple before....), which is also the most holes I've played under par in one round. These days, one a round is about the norm for me.
  5. I like the idea of a rules & etiquette test. The play test should be for time, not for score. I have played with people who shot 120 but kept up (or picked up when necessary) and had great etiquette, but I've also played with some scratch players who took forever on every shot.
  6. Saw that. The 59s came out right after I bought my 53/63 combo set. I might have to look at the 15s, and I probably should swallow my ego and take a look at the JPX 850 Forged (I know they are a a couple degrees stronger in loft). The way I'm swinging these days, the more forgiveness, the better, lol!
  7. Anyone have the specs on the Mp-15s? Just wondering if the lofts are the same or stronger than the 59s, and how the offset compares?
  8. I've never been more like my dog than today.... USPS tracking says it's at the local post office and will likely be delivered today. My dog and I are jockeying for position in the window waiting for the postman to enter the yard, LOL.
  9. Insitutional Sales at a Brokerage Firm. In the past, I've been a research analyst and portfolio manager for mutual funds and hedge funds. I also do some web application programming in my free time.
  10. At times it's cool, and under certain circumstances it's not. All depends on the situation and the perspective. Beers and fun with friends--cool. Playing with old men in golf carts and plaid polyester pants to get away from a significant other for a few hours--not...wait, that's still cool! ;)
  11. Thanks. I learn something new every day! I'd probably be embarrassed about how many rules I don't know. You'd think after all these years, I'd have come across all of them by now, lol.
  12. I was watching a replay of the U.S. Amateur tonight and on one hole, a guy's ball rolled off the green, towards a hazard, stopping just short on a retaining wall (that was in the yellow lined hazard). As he grounded his club, I wondered if he didn't know it was part of the hazard, but I was wrong (as usual). Decision 13-4/30 says that you are allowed to ground your club at address in a hazard on an obstruction (ie, retaining wall, bridge over creek, etc). I've played a couple course in the past that have cement lined water hazards (can think of one in Vegas). If they aren't defined specifically as an integral part of the course, I guess that means you could ground your club on the dry edges?

    Macports

I realize this is an ancient post and you might not care anymore, but if you are looking for easy package installations, check out HomeBrew. I haven't used Macports in forever because of it. It is easy to use and keep up to date and has an extensive list of uses.
  14. I can't wait for my book to get here. I wish the USPS would update their tracking. It's killing me waiting for it to make its way from Erie to Denver. I obviously haven't read the book yet, but I've been thinking about my shot patterns for a couple years, and I have wanted to put together an app to visualize them and allow me to plan course strategy. Well you guys and Mark Broadie have gotten me fired up to work on it again. Here's a mocked up version of a hole I play often, along with the corresponding shot pattern of the what I hit off the tee (hybrid). It's a heat map of 19 shots, some of which were taken by gps on different holes and courses (2 from this hole), and the rest from a simulator. The yellow line is my aim line and the end point is what I where I would have thought I would have hit it (this is just a quick static prototyping to see if I could create the shot patterns, so the overlay and aim lines aren't perfect, just mocked up). Clearly, 1) I don't hit it as far as I thought, 2) this is the wrong club and/or the wrong line, and 3) yes, I have a beautiful two way miss right now, lol. I have lots of ideas of where to go from here, but after reading this whole thread, I thought I'd share it and get your thoughts and ideas. Waiting impatiently for the book, CB
  15. I saw this on FB the other day and have been thinking about it. Last weekend, I played a course from about 6300 yards and shot a stellar 85. The next day I played a local decent par 3 course that ranged from 60-125 yard tee shots. I played it twice and shot +1 once and +2 the second time. With Rory's distance, I wouldn't have many approach shots longer than that on the par 4s. So that would be +2-+4 for 18. On the four par 5s, I'm at worst even and more likely 2 or 3 under. That leaves the par 3s. If I'm hitting those tee shots, I'm +2-+3 probably, but if Rory hits them, I'm -1-Even. So for the round, I'm best case -2 and worst case +7. That's 6 to 13 shots better. I would have guessed about 5-6 before I went through the analysis probably. OK I'm ready for Rory to come play my ball!
