    Wie's Folly

Yeah, and everyone on this board should quit their day job, lock themselves into a dark pit, and burn themselves with lit cigarettes until they learn the rules of golf. Give me a break...
  2. I recently bought his books "Putt like the pros" and his short game bible and knocked about 5 strokes off my game in just a month using his drills and methods of execution. Clearly, I was very happy with the results and I just got to play with my high school coach again since the end of last year's season. I told him about my improvement, and he said that he hated Pelz's teaching, saying that it was waaaay to analytical and fact-based for him. Dave Pelz is very technical, as I am too, so I felt that this might apply to me more than other people. Does anybody else agree with me on this? Has anybody used his methods and no improved? Do you like his teaching system?
  3. I watched a little of the end of the show. I loved when Johnny says on the first playoff hole "He can't quite clear that second bunker." Tiger airmails it 35 yards on the fly. Pfft.
  4. I voted for perfect distance control. Think about it. If you hit every single putt, chip, iron shot or drive the same distance from the hole/fairway every time, you're done with half of the battle. All you must do is have proper mechanics to get the line of your shots to your target. Example: Tiger Woods 2006 British Open
  5. Played a quick 9 yesterday and shot 37 with 2 birdies. I bogeyed both the par 3's and one of the par 4's. Bleh.
  6. So, are you guys exicted for PGA tour coverage in one place on TGC or are you dissapointed?
  7. You guys can deal with it, or put down your foot nicely. Call him aloud first. Get on the teebox, and look at him and say "Let's play it by the books today." And if he says yes, then make sure he does. If he says no, then it's not much fun playing with him and stop playing golf with the dude. It's really simple. It's just not easy.
  8. Someone on our high school golf team has a built-in high powered magnet in his hat. He takes it off his hat marks his ball, and then just throws it back somewere near his head and it attaches back to the magnet. It's pretty funny to watch. I just use whatever change I have in my pocket.
  9. When I'm playing my best, I'm not thinking about anything.
  10. For me, any of the premium balls are fine. HX Tour Pro V1 Pro V1x B330 B300S I don't feel there's any difference at all between premium balls. And I don't feel that anybody but the pros can.
  11. I can't even drink yet.. :-p But, if I could, I wouldn't. I've seen too many 10 handicaps double their handicap through drinking.
  12. I shot a 37 today, I hit the ball very well. It's the first time I've played my home course since coming back from a golfing vacation. So I'm pleased

    How far?

    Interesting results...
  14. Shot even par 72 a couple of days ago for the first time. Had a putt for 71 on the way... and blasted 3 feet past. Made the comebacker for 72. I also shot 74 from the second hardest tees at King's North at Myrtle Beach.

    How far?

Okay, after searching around this fourm and looking at people boast about their driving distances, my question is, How far do most people overestimate how far they hit it? I'm probably the second longest kid on my high school team, but I do it because of correct swing mechanics, not because I swing at 120 MPH. I swing at about 96 on average, and I hit it about 255 or 260. I was on a launch moniter recently, and I was relieved that these were actually the distances I hit. Then a guy who had a appt after me was only hitting it 210 or 200 with his driver, and he said that the launch moniter was "bullsh*t" and that no one could hit it 250 on this machine. I hit one ball 251 on my first try.. :)
  16. If you're hitting a 3 wood 250, that's a pretty long par 5 if you can't hit it in two. But, to repeat what other people said, most people think 250 but mean 220. My advice? Go to a launch moniter with your club and look at some other 2/3 woods to see your actual yardages and launch angles.
  17. Ozzie could par some of the shorter par 4s like the driveable short par 4 at the GHO or maybe even a short par 3 like 17th at Sawgrass. Give Ozzie 18 chances at the same hole, and Tiger 18 at bats with the same pitcher, Ozzie would win.
  18. Maybe the fact that other clubs have offset, or maybe a little draw bias and the SQ Tour has none. And maybe you're just overswinging, trying to goose it too much. I'd suggest a look at your old driver to see if it's actually the club.
  19. There's nothing more annoying to me than someone with a disgusting glove. It's just counter productive anyways, considering a sweaty, crusty glove is just going to make your hand slip. Bottom line: get new gloves. Often. Please.
  20. There's only one way to make sure that one of them is right for you: test them out on the course. Anything that anybody tells you about these clubs is useless because their swing is different.
  21. I shot a 74 today, only one off the course record at my home course. Had a double on #8 on the front nine, and it was hard to recover and get excited on the back. Oh well.
  22. Geoff played some gritty golf, and he deserved the title. He put his best out there, and Mickelson's play just wasn't good enough to beat him. Bottom line - Phil choked, but Geoff played some great golf.
  23. I was at my home course two days ago and hooked my lay-up on a short par 4. I had about 135 in with the green and pin tucked behind a couple of trees. I was playing pretty good, so I decided to play it safe, aim right side of the green and take my bogey at worst. Well, of course, I snap hook it again and end of 3 feet from the cup. I didn't tell anyone that it was an accident though :)
  24. Shot a 76 today at a very difficult course. It was only 3 off the course record. I had a triple to start the second nine and never really recovered... oh well.
  25. The announcers on XM are pretty fair. They don't make a lot of off-hand comments like the television announcers. They just report whatever is happening. I listen to my XM a lot during history class... :)
