  1. Agreed. Clubhead speed comes from your turn. The more flexible you are in your hips and the bigger turn you're able to to make, the better. Another place where it comes from is swing width. If you can add a nice wide arch to your swing (left arm fully extended on the backswing, right arm on the follow through), you can definitely gain yards there as well. My keys to really letting a drive loose is a slightly wider stance and a slightly slower backswing. This allows me to make sure I remain balanced while I coil up on the way back. From there, all I think about is is rotating my hips and upper body and finishing on balance. My arms and clubface come around naturally and are the last thing to arrive.
  2. Played a course I've never played before today (Legends Course @ Diablo Grande) and shot 75 (+3) from the blacks. Hit one in the drink on a relatively easy par 3 and shanked one OB trying to go for a par 5 in two. Also missed a couple of 4 footers for par on the last 2 holes. Oher than that, I was pretty pleased. Course was awesome. If there's anyone from the Bay Area on here, I highly recommend it. It's in the middle of nowhere and pretty much had the course to ourselves (only saw one other group all day). GREAT layout and the greens were the truest I've putted in years. I'll definitely be back.
  3. Hey everybody. Just wanted to introduce myself. Name is Cesar. I'm 32, started playing when I was 10. Used to play competitively when I was a junior,High School, and a little bit in college. Lowest index I've ever had was +1. For the last 12 years though, I've played maybe a handful of rounds plus 1 or 2 scrambles a year. Just got burnt out and also got discouraged by the serious loss of accuracy on my driver. Seems the older I got and the more club head speed I generated, the more magnified my swing flaws became. What used to be drives in the 1st cut of rough, were now in deep doodoo (if not O.B.) Couldn't fix it for the life of me so I just decided to pretty much hang them up. The few times I did go out it was with some friends just screwing around having a few beers. Then I saw Tiger win at Torrey Pines this year and just like that, I got the bug again...big time! Talk about inspirational play! Now I'm back at it. With 15 month old twin boys, I can't get out there everyday, but I'm definitely fitting golf in whenever the opportunity presents itself. I've ditched the old swing and am starting from scratch. Been doing a lot of studying of swings going over the basic fundamentals. Used to swing a lot with my arms, now trying to focus more on turn and lower body, keeping my hands/arms more quiet and simple. Over the past 3 months, I've had some good days and some really bad ones. My scores are ranging anywhere from -2 to +12, usually right around +4-/+6 on my local track which rates out at 74.5/135. My goal is to get my swing back down this year, hit the gym hard in the winter to get in better shape, and start playing some amateur tourneys in 2009. See where this game can take me if I take it seriously again. I look forward to learning from others and sharing my insights into this crazy game. Take care

  5. Even though Jack had more clutch competitors to go up against, I still gotta go with Tiger. He's basically Jack Nicklaus in a top flight athlete's body. Not a weakness in his game and the most demoralizing putter I've seen.
