  1. And we see how the legend grows - originally a 184 yard PW, now a 190 yard SW; soon, a 225 yard lob wedge .... and he spun it back to 6 feet .... I think I remember seeing this remarkable shot live. He was lucky he didn't break anything (not just his club, but his body). Exaggerated or not, I could listen to Feherty tell stories all day.
  2. According to reports, he has had $1 billion in earnings (maybe if he's been hanging out with John Daly at those casinos, it's a little lower). I don't think he loses it all when he hits the rough or misses a cut.
  3. I never said that, and I think it's telling that you resort to facile exaggeration to attempt to make your point. My point is that I have an understanding of the mentality of an athlete who is driven to succeed, at high (international) levels - not 100% of whatever his unique circumstances may be, but of the mindset of someone who loses himself in his quest to be the best. This mentality is not unique to the greatest athlete in whatever sport we are talking about. Also, as you frequently observe when others try to make observations about Tiger or anyone else, you have no idea what my personality or situation is. I've ackowledged we are not going to agree on this without attacking you personally, perhaps you can do the same.
  4. I'm afraid we will never agree on this point. IMO his behavior is controllable and he chooses not to control it. I don't tolerate this from other professionals I deal with daily - in my profession it's considered a basis for disciplinary action - and I don't see why Tiger should get a pass because he's a golfer or passionate or any other reason. In younger days I was also extremely competitive (different sport) and accomplished enough that I fully understand the mindset and how one gets there - but I also understand the need to mature out of it.
  5. That's because it's a false "choice." No reason you should have to choose between the two. Tiger can fix this if he wants to.
  6. Turns out, it wasn't either Watson failing to win or Cink making the putt. It's all in the lap of Dr. Morris Pickens, who has modestly allowed himelf to be given credit by publishing a press release. http://deadspin.com/tag/dr'-morris-pickens/
  7. This is all true. Cink deserves it, he did what he had to do. On the other hand, there is a big difference between making a putt an hour before anyone realizes it will count for much and making one under extreme pressure.
  8. An interesting proposition, but for now I disagree. I am the first to point out (and not favorably) how over-emotional he gets on the course, but the fact that he is so emotional says to me he will find it very hard to quit playing. He's already down to a pretty small number of the more "prestigious" events, so I don't think he's getting over-done. And as younger players come on - sort of like young gunfighters in the Old West - to challenge him, I think his pride will make it hard for him to let them take center stage as long as he thinks he's better. He's already got enough cash so I think his intensity is not money-related. Now I'm taking your comment as meaning complete retirement as a player. Maybe he will try to cut back more, but still play the handful of majors, although I think that would prove to be hard for him because there comes a point where lack of play starts to cost you, and I don't think he will want to play if he feels he's not going to win. Of course if there's a physical issue, that changes everything.
  9. If by "overrated" they mean "worst player to win 14 majors, 70 tournaments, and not miss a cut for 7 years," then the answer is "yes." Unless the guy you overheard was named "Johnny Miller." Otherwise, no. You know what they say about opinions, though.
  10. In a major, 2006 US Open. This was probably the last time for any event. I agree the holes start to look alike, but I like watching this event as a change of pace from the target stuff we're used to seeing. I enjoy the fact that when you're in trouble, you're really in trouble. Wouldn't want to watch it all the time, though.
  11. What an amazing recovery by Watson after 5 bogeys in the first 7 holes, likely will be tied for the lead going into the weekend. IF he putts like this on Sunday, watch out.
  12. +7, five holes to go. Now officially in trouble. I think +4 should do it.
  13. Tiger showing his immature side. Not going to help. Big contrast to Watson, who is calm regardless.
  14. My fondest wish is that Sandy Lyle hits the cut line, with Monty 1 shot back.
  15. I think he means "University of Kentucky."
  16. If you really want to save, don't buy a putter, use your driver. That way you get to use a $300 putter, you don't have to decide between whether to spend on your driver or your putter, AND you open space for another club in your bag.
  17. Did he complain about the condition of the water, or ask other boaters to stop moving?
  18. This is an incomplete answer to your question, but many private courses are reviewed here: www.courses.golfreview.com
  19. This could be closer to reality than you may realize. She is an avid golfer, I saw her at a golf resort - while she working in the WH, when she was obviously under great pressure - working on her game. She would add a lot of gravitas to the job as well as high level contacts which probably could help in obtaining sponsorships. Don't know about her business acumen, but she is very smart. Assuming there will be an opening to fill, of course.
  20. Try slowing down your swing a bit. Your body and hands may be too far in front of your clubhead. Focus on getting the clubhead - but not your hands -to come through quicker. Once you get the feeling back of synchronization, you can swing a bit faster if necessary.
  21. Yes, but only as long as this translates to more viewers. If they ever find viewership being turned off, then he's a liability and out the door. (Now how they would determine that, as opposed to the effect of any other announcer, I don't know, but they did it with Joe Theismann on MNF, for example.)
  22. The most accurate way to characterize Miller on this point. We've all had to play with the expert who knows best, even though the truth is obvious. Woods may not be the greatest putter ever day in and day out, but who do you want on your fantasy team for that 15-foot putt on 18 to send the match to a tiebreaker? It's a surprise when he doesn't make it.
  23. Not only that, but it was also indescribably slow to post results.
  24. Don't worry, if he's like the rest of us at an advanced age, he forgot that he met you by the time he got back to the clubhouse. Of course that means he may try to offer you advice again. Another approach - tell him you appreciate his interest, but you have a limited time window to get in your round today so you'll have to take a rain check on the lesson. Or - suggest one of your friends as really needing the lesson.
