need help with shoe selection
proff49 replied to mrprovisional's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I also have plantar faciitis but haven't found a shoe that really helps. Had orthotics made last summer and got shots in each foot every week for about four months. Last fall it started feeling better. I still feel a little touch of it every now and again but nothing like it was before. Just bought a pair of Adidas Powerband 3.0's and I'm going to get a pair of the Callaway insoles for them. I'm really wanting a pair of the True Tours. Everyone says they are really comfortable but I'm not sure "feeling the course" is something someone with plantar faciitis wants to do. My doctor never told me about the towel exercise. I'm going to try it for sure. -
My TRUEs are on their way!

Can you compare the sizing to Adidas or Foot Joy? I really want to order a pair but am afraid to because I can't try them on. -
I've been looking at CG14 wedges and noticed some of them have different grooves. I've found a few that have small, shallow grooves between the main grooves (like the CG15 wedges) but most don't have the smaller grooves. Why is there two different grooves on the same wedge. All the ones I've looked at are older clubs and don't comply with the new groove rule.

Yes they are worth it. I've been playing them since early this spring and don't plan switching to anything else. They were really nice during the heat of the summer when my hands stayed wet. I just bought a set of Bridgestone J38 irons and will be re-gripping them with the Sharpro's very soon. I was worried about durability but that hasn't been a problem. I play 2-4 times a week and would have no problem getting a year out of the grips I put on last spring. They are still in very good shape. You can't go wrong with them.

Alpha, Zodia, Miura, Wishon golf equipment questions

I'm in southern Ohio just outside Portsmouth. The fitter is in Waverly, about 45 min north of me. -
Alpha, Zodia, Miura, Wishon golf equipment questions
proff49 replied to MJP's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The only club maker/fitter within driving distance to me sells Wishon, Swing Science, and Infiniti. He seems to be very accomplished and has great recommendations but I'm having a hard time dishing out that kind of money for equipment that you don't see being played much. He is about the only fitting option I have. Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy are over two hours away and I don't trust them at all and I wouldn't waist my time or money having someone at a local course do it. This guy charges $80 for a driver fitting and $80 for an iron fitting. If you do both you get a free putter fitting. If you purchase clubs through him they take this off the price. I've been wanting a set of Callaway Diablo Forged irons but getting fit for them is next to impossible around here. I'm either going to have to buy off-the-rack or get fit for a set of "botique" irons. -
Dave Pelz "AlmostGolf" Foam Practice Golf Balls
proff49 replied to FlopShotArtist's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've been practicing with them for over a year and really like them. They are great if you have limited space and want to take full shots. I do think they exaggerate the ball flight; a fade will be more of a slice and a draw will be more of a hook. But I do think they are far better than any other short range practice ball I've used. -
Thanks for the replies. If it doesn't hold my bag tight I wouldn't mind getting another one. The only reason I use a stand bag is for when it isn't in a cart. I don't have to worry about it tipping over. The velcro straps on the original ore o.k. but I hate the bungee straps. I haven't seen anyone get those tight enough to hold a bag. mdrengl-- If you would, check on the adjustability of the handle. I'm thinking it's just like the older ones. It might be adjustable but the rear wheels are going to pull in. I wish they would put another pivot point in the handle so it could be raised or lowered like the clicgear.
-
For those using the V1 with bag clamps, how well do the clamps work and how adjustable is the handle? On occasion the velcro straps on my old V1 let the bag turn a little and I wish the handle could be lowered without pulling the back tires together. I usually end up pushing it with the front wheel off the ground or pulling it. FWIW, I use a stand bag but the cart bags I've used in the past would also turn sometimes.

That's what I intend to do. Was just hoping to hear from some folks that have used them.

Anyone using a Linksman X-6 push cart? What are your likes/ dislikes? My wife is wanting to start this season and I need another cart. Currently I have an older Sun Mountain v1 Speedcart. I don't want to spend a fortune or get something "girly" just for her because there is a pretty good chance she won't stick with it. The X-6 is something I'm interested in if she does quit.

I don't own either but have used two different Sky Caddies and three different Golf Buddies and prefer the later, basically because there is no fee for the buddy. Both have any course I will ever play. Golf Buddy just doesn't require you to pay more to get them. Quality and features that I use seem to be about the same. Only problem I had with any of them was I couldn't get lay-up distances with the small Buddy. It may do it but I couldn't get it to during the nine holes I played with it. It also wasn't pre-loaded but that isn't a big deal. I plan on getting the black and white Buddy before the weather gets warm. pingman-- When you are on your own and out of that crummy excuse of a town and paying for everything yourself your decisions on several things may change.

Anyone try the Callaway Golf Aetrex insoles
proff49 replied to proff49's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the info. I plan on getting a new pair of shoes this week anyway so I'll probably get a pair of Aetrex with them. If they help I'll get some for my older shoes. -
Anyone here tried the Callaway Golf Aetrex insoles. I have flat feet and have been having a lot of trouble with my feet the last couple months after walking 9-18 holes. These insoles have a model for flat/low arched feet but they are about $70. I hate to spend that much for a pair of insoles but if they help they would be worth it.

I've used the Sharpro multi-compound grips for several months now. They are well worth the money. I also play 3-4 rounds/week and they still have very good grip and tack. Much better than many other grips I've seen after this amount of play. Would not hesitate to buy them again. New, I think the Sharpro's and GP's feel a little different but can't say one is better than the other.

Thanks for the info. Maybe a large cadet is what I need. I've been using medium/large gloves but the fingers are a little short.
-
Might be a stupid question but what is a "cadet" golf glove? Been looking online at gloves and see the same glove in a regular model and a cadet model but they have the same description.

I'm about the same as Zeph. I also went to 57's from wide soled cavity backs and didn't notice any less forgiveness. I've been playing them about two months now. When I first got them they didn't help or hurt my scores but tightened up my average. For some reason the last couple weeks my scores have dropped about five strokes and it's all been in my iron play (according to the stats I keep). Now my aveage is right at 100 so I'm surely over a 20 handicap. I say go for it. Don't be afraid of them.
-
I guess that's what I meant. The grips I'm looking at say they are .600 core. While looking at grips I've seen some other numbers. .580 is one that I remember.
-
I'm going to re-grip my clubs and am seeing some different values for the core. Between my woods, hybrids, irons, and wedges I have five different brands of shafts. Is it possible I'll have to buy grips with different cores?

Need some help selecting loft of hybrids
proff49 replied to proff49's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't hit the 5-iron very will but usually hit the 6 pretty good. If I had the money I'd drop the 5-iron and get the 19*, 22*, and 25*. That was kinda my long term plan anyway. The problem with testing is I can't take the hybrids to the range. They are demo clubs at a course I play. Any use has to be on the course.
