thehillgolfer replied to Maverick's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips

shot a pretty good 83 today. I played the course i will be playing in my tourney monday and i have one thing to say, pete dye is screwed up in his head. It's called the River Course and the remodelling of it (done by Pete Dye) was finished last year so it was the first i've played of the new version. It was kinda funny, the first couple holes were absolute killer, like after the 3rd hole as i walked off the green i said to a kid "this course sucks" (hes actually more like child prodigy, he is 14 and was one off his courses record of 63 the other day playing from the tips) but anyways, the course was a ton different through the whole front and then the back nine was kinda changed but it seemed like pete dye got tired of it and just kinda quit, which was nice for me cuz i shot a 40 on the back (with two doubles)...oh yeah, and i beat the child prodigy, he shot a 84 and was playing the tees in front of me, mine was 7088 yards, par 72 74.2/135.

once me and my golf coach at school get around to taping my swing i'll be more than happy to put it on here. i'm just to lazy to actually tape it. ...and btw, is there any software on the internet that u can look at your swing with? my friend has one and it was really cool, you could check your swing plane, spine angle, all sorts of stuff. i've looked but i havent been able to find any.

driver- 10 months and will probably keep it til it breaks wood- a couple months, some guy gave it to me for free irons- 2 years.....am looking to upgrade, not really to what yet, i like the mizuno mp-32s, never hit them though, they just look cool wedge- since christmas, probably going to buy a new sand or lob wedge soon putter- since april i think...i'll prob keep it for years

and it may be just me, but i dont think i would be able to tell the difference between a 70 and 90 foot elevation change...especially if its 200+

i have no information about this whole deal except what i've just read on this thread and i think the usga made the right call. for the only reason being that carts are allowed in this tournament (or so thats what i think i've gathered) If i was another competitor in that tourney i wouldnt mind letting her use one either, do unto others as you would have them do unto you....

one thing u might want to experiment with is your setup, especially your feet. i chip wiht my feet practically facing toward my target, it helps me hit the ball more downward, but i too struggle with my chipping too (but my problem is more leaving myself wiht 4-8 footers and being a sucky putter)

its all about logic really. i mean, you can swing real hard and maybe have one less club into the green than u would if u just swung back had a smooth transition and swung the club through. and you'll definitely be more likely to be in the fairway that way and hitting an 8 iron instead of a 9 iron. its no big deal really. and i used to say that i am less accurate when i "slow" my swing down, but all it takes is a few rounds and you get used to the different timing and such. now that i'm starting to groove the smoother tempo i hit it just as far and i can just get up on the tee and hit it without really thinking (and luckily without stretching since i'm only 17) and my drive will go relatively straight and like 270ish, which is fine with me. you just have to remind yourself that your driver is not a scoring club. now if i could just figure out how to hit my irons and one putt everyonce in awhile (or just not 3 putt) i'd be set

i never have understood the handicap system...its just kinda stupid, because if u shoot a bad score u can always just not record it (if u want to have a lower handicap, which is what i would want) but since my course isnt usga approved or something i cant even get an official handicap which annoys the crap out of me cuz i want to play in some of the state junior tourneys but since i dont have an official handicap i cant and i dont want to have to pay a bunch of money just to get a handicap...and i dont even have to worry about sandbaggers

if he cant get up and down from around the green then why the heck are people saying he shouldve hit 8 iron 8 iron and then a wedge?

from the picture that iacas posted, i dont blame phil for trying to get on the green with his second shot. i'm not going to say anything about his first shot. but from that picture i think i wouldve gone for the green from where he was..i might have used a 5 wood, but still. and what people forget is phil got unlucky in the bunker. if he had gotten a reasonable lie, he gets up and down for the playoff. and thats what he was probably thinking on his second shot. get the ball up around the green, and its an easy bogey. that being said i was soooo glad phil lost. and geoff does deserve more credit because he a) chipped in for par on 71, b) hit a perfect drive on 18 and landed in a divot and c) got up and down for par from a very tough position.

sorry, i was jokingily trying to imply i would be on the pga tour...i never was good at being funny

usually its too boring, and i dont get it at home, just at the golf course...but i saw playing lessons with the pros for the first time today and that was awesome...unfortunately it was following by 15 hours of infomercials,

i'd probably pay liek 50 bucks, since i'll going to playing at all those course in 5 or so years anyways

Preshot routine by the pro's
thehillgolfer replied to Maverick's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
actually the preshot routine adds an extra giggle or two to the shank into the woods...only slightly more funny is someone taking a monster swing and like topping it and it not going anywhere..it always gets a little chuckle out of me...which takes me to that commercial, where that guy is talking about being tied with tiger woods and the other guy is like tiger woods shot a 102? and then the other dude tops his drive, well that driver was loud when it hit the ball and it didnt move more than 3 yards. how is that possible???? has anyone ever done that??? cuz i watched that and i was like nooo way. so if anyone actually knows if the sound goes with the swing let me know. and i have a loosely followed preshot routine, but usually my drives go 275 yards down the fairway with a slight draw -
i still cant decide...i gave up on baseball in 5th grade but i would say i have pretty good hand eye coordination, but i went to the batting cage awhile back and tried the fast pitch, which i think was 60-70 MPH and i dont think i hit a single one. i think i have to say i give ozzie the slight edge
-
i usually mess up at the beginning of the back 9. my past two tourneys my front nines are respectable (37/38) but then i get thinking wow, i could actually win this thing, cuz usually the winning score is mid 70s, then i screw up. But the funny thing is i usually finish strong. just try to be confident.

1. David Feherty (funniest golfer ever) 2. Jiohnny Miller (JUST KIDDING) 2. Tiger Woods (best golfer ever) 3. Jack Nicklaus (best golfer ever) on either my home course...just to see how good they really are, or Augusta

are we equating one pitch with a hole or an at bat??
-
or you could just smile and bear it...personally i dont like confrontation so i usually dont call anyone out on cheating or what not, even in a high school match, cuz i weigh both sides and i dont care enough to risk getting yelled at or defending my position or what not.

had a junior tournament today. and if i couldve hit a putt in the 3-5 feet area i wouldve gotten at least second. I ended up shooting an 81 with 7 three putts!!!! Our tournament was at the Greenbrier in WV. An extremely nice course and pretty tough as well. 6776 yards, par 70 (they turned a par 5 into a par 4) 72.8/129. but my ball strking was very good so i cant really complain, 9 fairways and 11 greens.
