  1. I want to get some used shafts to go in the iron heads that I have which do not use ferrules. If I installed a shaft with 1.5in prep in a 1.25 hosel bore, there would be some extra prep exposed. Is this a cosmetic problem or are there other factors that would need to be considered?
  2. I have read some positive things here about this bag when I did a forum search. I would love to hear some more about it. Some specific experiences about he legs and the straps would be great. Also, does any one know how long this bag has been out? Are there any new bags slated for next year? Thanks.
  3. Thats good news. What I am dealing with now, is the card with images on it not being read by my computer. It has a SD card reader. That is the kind of card I got. The only message I got from the computer when I inserted it was that it wasn't on the approved Win Xp list. After that, when the card was in, on the screen in my computer it said insert now. I would love to get this to work, but, I my have to actually call my computer guy. Maybe there is some software that I need.
  4. Upon real close inspection I found a hidden feature that blended into the molding. It was a card slot on the video camera. There was no card in there so I think that if I get a card I will be able to see if the quality of the snapshots my video camera takes is any good. I will do this by placing the card in my computer.
  5. I had the device plugged in. When I was looking to see if it had a card or just the tape, I ejected the tape, a message popped up from the USB port saying that it didn't recognize the device or that it malfunctioned. We are making progress at least. I don't have any software for the video camera and I am thinking this is the final anser. Restarting it was a no-go. Trying this before I bought an actual camera was my goal and I thank everyone for all the help. I am assuming that if I buy a new camera it will have software and drivers to install so that it can be recognized by my computer. With my older model computer is there hope with getting a camera that with drivers/software will be recognize, it has Win. XP so not too old.
  6. I appreciate all the suggestions. I am going to try all that I can. I originally plugged it in thinking that it would show up on the desktop somehow. It could be a major point that the device is actually not a camera, but, a digital video camera with a snapshot feature. The problem may be that these things are not compatible. Thanks for helping me get to the bottom of this. I am not even sure if the picture quality will be good if I get it set up, but that is the goal. I will try to plug it in, then restart for starters. I also went to the camera wizard section with it plugged in and my initial investigation was fruitless. I got to some information about Win. XP readable equipment that was good to buy and mine wasn't on the short list. I don't have any thing that might help this cause except the actual camera, the usb, a case and a recharge cord. I will try some of the suggestions, then give an update.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I tried it again with the power turned on, but nothing. I was able to connect an ipod before, but, I seem to remember that not all the ports worked. I tried to enter the control panel to enable all the ports and they were already enabled. From what you say, the device should activate a icon on the desktop when I plug it in. Any more suggestions? Thanks for your help.
  8. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows XP. I also have a JVC digital recorder that can take snapshots. I can take rudimentary photos with the recorder. When I tried to hook up the recorder with the USB, it wasn't recognized by my computer. Has anyone had any experience with this? I wonder if there is anyway to hook up the two or maybe they are incompatible? Short of just buying a regular digital camera to post club condition pics for trading etc., anyone have any tips to use what I have?
  9. My first set was some Wilson Staff forged, fluid feel irons. They were a hand me down from my late grandfather. The 3 iron was my favorite. Incidently, one of the last times my grandfather hit a ball on the course they lived on in Troy, NY, was with the PW. From about 100 yards out, it rolled up and right in the hole! Nice memory. If I am not mistaken, Wilson Staff irons have been around quite a while and were quite popular at one time. I have always looked at the company as if they have already had their heyday, but, are still around, unlike some companies most notably MacGregor. Wilson seems to still make some nice forged irons, though. I would consider them if in the market. I am not sure what other people impressions of the company are, but in recent years I remember those Fat Shaft clubs that never seemed to catch on.
  10. The club didn't receive a great review from the Golf Digest Hot List a few years ago, but, in spite of that, the 16* became one of my favorite clubs. It is great from the tee on shorter holes. I don't have any problem with hooking this club. I have the Ping stock shaft and for me I would think that the Aldila NV shaft would hit it too low. I found a 22* stiff used, for about $50 on Ebay. My other one is a 19*. I am not sure if there is actually a 20* in the G5. $100 is an O.K. deal for a new one with the NV. I bought two of mine new for $149 each. You are basically ensured of getting the real thing buying from an actual shop. I am not sure how much the G5 hybrid was targeted by counterfeiters on Ebay. I only read that Ping is often targeted. You have to check the serial number with Ping when shopping there. I considered switching to Nickent hybrids. I found that I hit the 17* too high though. It was nothing like the nice driving mid-trajectory of the G5 16*. I like the feel of the G5 too and I think that the sound of impact is a solid one. Basically a pretty plain club, but it works for me.
  11. I am not sure what to think about the Z-star from Srixon. What I have read about it is generally mixed, but at $39.99, I think that I might try it as a potential alternative to the new Pro-V, which incedently I haven't tried either. I have found that out of last years balls I liked the Pro-V more then the B330-S from Bridgestone, which felt fine but was less spinny around the green for me, compared to the the Pro-V. What I have read (to include just a few quotes) is that the Z-Star is: a little crappy, superb, squishy, less spinning and harder- making it go further than Pro-V. I think that it is clear that it isn't going to change lives much, but like a lot of golf equipment the best way to tell is through personal experience.
  12. I find that for the majority of times when I could hit a full SW, I choose not to and instead hit a 52* GW, or choose among other options. I like the lower flight of the GW. I am able to control the distance with that club better as well. The other club that I also like to use is my 9 iron. I have always respected the use of a punch or knock down when used as an approach shot into the green. It is always good to have choices.
  13. My interest in golf has remained consistent all through the winter this year because I found out about the dome within an hours drive. There are also a couple of year round driving ranges that still get business even during the cold cold days. I have been hitting off the mats both in the dome and at the ranges outdoors for a while. The last week or two has had mild weather. I have actually able to see the entire ball flight. The next step is actual grass. The last week in March would be great. I am thinking a couple of weeks into April though. I have been surprised in the past just how fast the last of the snow melts away. Hopefully that is the case this year!
  14. The grip that was on my clubs all through high school and some time after was the Golf Pride Tour Wrap. I didn't regrip the clubs and the grips did fine for all that time. I have played the tour velvet as well as its Lamkin counterpart. Velvets are nice, but I like the Lamkin Crossline better. You can get them in black/white, red/white, blue/white or all black like the Velvets. The blacks will show less wear. Right now I have the red multicompound New Decades. I am looking forward to trying them out on the course soon!
  15. Hello- We may have to wait longer for golf because of weather, but there are certainly things to do while we wait. This winter I have taken advantage of the Hampshire Dome in Milford. To get ready for the approaching season you may try the Willow Creek Golf Academy in Atkinson. I think it is not too far from Salem. I have a lesson in a couple weeks. They have cameras to capture your swing on video so that you can see exactly what you are doing. My lesson is with Matt Prior. Seems like it should be a valuable experience. I can better tell you how this instructor actually is in a couple weeks. Good luck! http://www.atkinsonresort.com/wcga.htm
  16. I first bought the same driver you have now, before my current driver. I also hit the ball high with that driver. Soon after I bought that driver on clearance, my pro fit me for irons. He told me to go with stiff. I did that and decided to find a stiff driver too. They had a 9.5 stiff only (I wanted the 10.5 in stiff- I wasn't able to find one on Ebay though). The 9.5 went a good deal lower, but I gained distance. I am now looking for a balance between the two, with the trajectory higher. Recently the monitor said the launch wasn't high enough with my 9.5. I won't know if I made the right move until I demo the new club that is in the mail. What I am trying is a different shaft and more loft. In addition to that I am going with the Launcher Comp. It has the Epic by Grafalloy in stiff. This Comp driver head probably will give a higher launch then same loft in reg. Launcher. I think that you are right to have the reg. flex with your SS because among other things the stiff will not go a far for you, I could be wrong. You can try a number of different things. 9.5 Ti460's in reg. flex are common on Ebay. It is not a bad way to go. If you went with the same shaft you could get basically predictable results. The ball will go lower. If you will get a pleasing flight or more distance is hard for me to say. I want to say yes because it seems like the 10.5 is going too high for you. I am interested in what you end up doing. Good luck!
  17. Thanks for your reply. I had seen a club at the local shop that, when I got home, I was sure had the V2. It would have been my first choice. I called to make sure that I hadn't made it up in the frenzy of demo-ing, but I had! It was a Aldila NV. Whoops. It made the decision to go with the Cleveland Launcher Comp 10.5 with the Epic stiff a little easier. I don't mind staying with Cleveland, it was my preference. If I find that the Epic doesn't fit my swing, I'll probably order a V2 from the Bay. I am looking forward to seeing the club. The shaft isn't the T75 Epic stiff which I would have preferred because it has less torque and might not have the tendency to balloon like the standard stiff could.
  18. Hello All- I am at the crossroads. The two drivers that I am choosing each has a different shafts. One driver is a Ping G5, 10.5 with a Proforce V2 65g stiff shaft. I tried the new G10 with the V2 high launch. I liked it enough with my +/- 102 swing speed, to consider the G5 a finalist. The other driver is a 10.5 degree model of a different make with the stiff Epic shaft by Grafalloy. I wanted to get a higher launch then my 9.5 Launcher was giving me. I value the ability to work the ball either way, but primarily fade. I have a medium tempo with a slight over the top move. This is my first foray into custom shafts. My impression of torque is that less would be better for more control but I have not proven this. What ever you have to offer would be appreciated. Experiences, reviews too. I have to make a decision about which to get because the bidding ends Sat. morn on one. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for the reply. I don't have exact numbers, so I am estimating my swing speed at 102mph. I just missed out on a driver with the UST V2 shaft. I wanted to try that one and the Epic. Custom driver shafts are beginning to see the light for me as I have continued to read about them on this forum. First it was gap wedges, then regripping/saving myself, now instead of just going with the stock shaft in a driver I am trying to experiment. There is a tech van from Cleveland that should have the shaft offerings, but that won't be for a couple more months.
  20. For those driver shaft buffs out there, how is the Epic shaft by Grafalloy?
  21. I am in the process of looking at different shafts for a driver. The benchmark that I am using for reference is a 65 gram shaft with 3.4 torque and low kick point. I have to get imaginative because custom shafts are sometimes hard to demo in my area. The shafts that I am looking at have weights of 67gram/2.9torque and 72gram/3.5torque. I know that lighter shafts sometimes allow for faster clubhead speed, but, how does extra weight effect the general performance? It doesn't always mean lower flight, does it? Torque contributes to feel I think. On off center hits more torque means that the feel will be of twisting. Is that right? I could go ahead with the stock shaft but I would like to consider all my options. Thanks!
  22. I actually got my refund today. He included in the payment shipping both ways. That is one considerate counterfeiter!
  23. Camo golf balls.
  24. I am focusing on putting to improve my scores. I realize that I hit many putts without committing to a line, just hoping that it will get started where I want. The technique that I am looking forward to using to read greens is, visualize where the putt will travel if you were to hit it aiming directly at the hole. Picture where the ball rolls. Now commit to a line when compensating for the way the ball behaved on the trial run when aimed directly at the hole.
  25. That is an eye-opener. I was fooled! The ones that I got were definitely the ones listed on that link. I sent them back because I wanted grips with the new cord that Golf Pride told me about. They looked very close to authentic except for minor differences that I thought were due to the model changes or new technology, not counterfeit! The seller on eBay was: bjlee9680. Throughout this process he has been fast to respond and very nice about what I thought was me being picky. I am just waiting now to see if I in fact get my money back. Slim to none?
