  1. Dave, I haven't seen you hit, nor do I know any details about your set-up. One of my problems is hitting down on the ball. I get really good distance for a lousy golfer. A big benefit to my driver was: (1) Tee the ball up high, 2 /3rd of the ball above the club head at address. ( With club resting on the ground) (2) Locate the ball about 2" back from your left toe. Get a bright colored tee ( I use white). Place it about 3 ball widths back from the tee'd ball. Push the tee in the back position, down in the ground. leave just enough sticking up to see it. (3) Now line up on the back tee, imagine there is a ball on it. Swing your normal swing and it should help you to get an up-sweep with your driver. It feels weird at first. It may not help you at all, but it did wonders for me. You might have to mess with location of ball & tee, or short back tee. Try it and see. Jack If it sounds confusing, let me know. I'll get some pics.
  2. Yeah, they are just now turning green. We are still getting down in the high 30's at night sometimes. We had snow 3 or 4 weeks ago. Jack
  3. I hit a guy one time. He was in our group and drunk as a skunk. My ball was 50 yards off the green. It was an elevated green. 3 of them were on and it was my turn. I told them to get back, but they insisted it was ok. So, I hit a high lob shot that was coming down on the green. The drunk was clowning around acting like he was going to catch the ball in his mouth. It came down and hit him in the chest. I apologized and asked if he was ok. He was really upset, and kept apologizing to me. He said if he hadn't been in the way, my ball would have been real close to the hole. I am so thankful it didn't go down his throat. If he had been about 4 inches closer to me, it would have hit his mouth. He was in a position like a sword swallower. If it had lodged in his throat, he would have choked to death. Crazy, and hard for me to believe and I was even there when it happened. Jack.
  4. I'll tell him to make sure he knows. Jack
  5. I shot an " honest" 43 today for 9 holes. There were some stray shots, but the recovery shots were tremendous. It felt like someone else was hitting for me. My practice now mostly consists of chipping, so it has paid off. My ball of choice lately has been fhe Titleist NXT -S. It sticks to the green, flys straight , and putts true. I played 9 holes with the same ball and made a 27ft putt for par. Jack
  6. Today I went to the course around 10 am. The mounds were there, and therewere some dried out dead worms nearby, they looked like earthworms. Also, A couple of fuzzy caterpillars were around. So, then I guess its ok to brush away the mounds? Here are some pics: thanks for looking, Jack ,
  7. I would have to go for the black circle area that someone added. Probably a 5 hybrid at 220-230 yards. I could reach the green with driver, if trees weren't a problem off of tee box. My driver would roll through the green at that distance, into trouble. Jack
  8. I'm in Northwest Ark, south of Fayetteville.
  9. Starting out, I used Pinnacle and some of the Wilson balls. It seemed the Wilson balls didn't feel rock hard like a few of the other brands. Back then the Ultra and some DPS (distance plus spin), were around $11 to $15 a dozen. Another +1 on a retriever. You get to try out a lot of different balls. My favorite was finding a brand new ball out in the rough. Enjoy, and welcome to golf, Jack
  10. I may get to go out there this evening. If so we can take some pics. The holes in the middle of the mound are about the diameter of a toothpick. It would be nice to see the critters that are doing this. Jack
  11. Self employed, I own a machine shop and welding outfit. I can build, weld. or repair anything. Except the crack of dawn and a broken heart. Jack
  12. Thanks in advance for all the info. I'll check out that book. Jack
  13. Thanks guys. I'm not sure exactly what creature made these, but it's nice fo know I can remove them before putting. I've been knocking them down, and they crumble into nothing. Usually, I'll take my fingers and scrub the dirt spot down so that it doesn't show. We always got rid of them after putting to try and help the next group. Thqnks, Jack.
  14. Thanks boogielicious. I have looked on here in the past, but never joined. There is always good deals in the for sale section. But, without any one knowing me, it would be hard to make a deal. Glad to be here, Jack
  15. On our greens, there are some ( ant hills????). These are small round mounds, the base is the size of a quarter. The height is 1/2" to 3/4". I haven't seen the ants or worms, but they looks like ant hills, a bunch of stacked up, miniature dirt balls, shaped like a mountain or volcano. Someone told me to drop for relief, and another person said, mash out the mounds, because they are scattered all around the green. So let me know the real answer, and we will start doing the correct procedure. By the way, after putting out we usually knock down all of the mounds before walking off of the green. Thanks, Jack
  16. New here from NW Arkansas. 49 years old, love golf. My 11 year old son is a golf nut, too. Jack
