Thanks, that thread makes a lot of since. The mishit was probably about an inch diagonally near the bottom heel of the club. The setup is nearly identical but you can see a little more of my left forearm in the good contact pic. I guessing my left shoulder stayed a little higher in that swing while the right arm/shoulder came underneath, creating a slightly less outside to in swing Going to try to make it out to the range again today and try to work on flattening out my swing so its a little bit more of a sweeping motion from in to out. Also need to work on keeping my head still.

Been going through my swings frame by frame to see where I went wrong. Definitely noticing the steep downswing compared to the setup and the lateral head movement. Will have to continue to work on this. One thing I noticed which is kind of weird is how close my Driver mishit look to the high fade at the moment of impact Mishit: Good contact:

Whats the rule of 12?

Made it out to the range today and I think I got some better camera angles. I was trying to work a draw for almost all my shots today so you'll see me lining up with my feet pointing to the right of my target line (stick). I was trying to mentally think about swinging to the right while having the club face pointing down the target line. However, with the stick there I kept naturally swinging down that line which resulted in a lot of pulls. The crazy thing was that once I took away the stick it was so much easier to pick a target for the face and a target for my swing. Maybe I had it backwards and I need the stick to stay on my swing line and I'll just pick a target for my club face instead...Either way by the end I was hitting some nice high draws. I was having a little trouble with my irons today but it was the most consistent I have felt with my driver in a long time, don't think I hit a single slice. The biggest miss today with my driver and 3w was a pull with a little took much draw..not quite a hook. First is DTL with an 8i (i think). I need to get a notebook and start making note of what I'm recording in order Next is my 3w DTL. I wanted to include this one because its kind of indicative what happens on the course for me. I usually hit much better on the range then when I'm playing (most people probably do) . This was a swing where I lined up to hit and draw and felt like a took a couple good practice swings and then something just went completely wrong on the actual swing. I'm not completely sure what happened but I think I might have raised up my head and ended up topping it Heres another DTL 3w. If I remember correctly this was a straight pull Now for driver ...this was my first ball hit and it was not pretty but I think I can probably learn more from my bad shots than my good so thats why I'm posting it This next one was better and started off straight down my target line with a slight fade. Better but not great considering I was setting up for a draw Face on driver... This was after I removed the stick and started hitting them much better. Everything was either dead straight or with a slight fade or slight draw. Also note, the ball is just inside my left foot...because of my stance it looks like its a little more inside that it actually is. Definitely notice the head sliding back and then forward from this view...Something I'm going to have to try to work on next time

Yea I wasnt really that happy with the camera angle but it was the best I could for the time being. I'm trying to think of something i can use as a tripod without actually buying one. My swing is a little steep. What are some drills to get the club back on plane or even underneath it? Also, do you think a stiff or x-stiff shaft would help? The downswing2 picture looks like the club is really bent and lagging far behind...Might be part of the reason the club face is staying open at impact.

I started playing about 3 or 4 years ago and for the first year or so when I routinely only shot like a 105 to 115 I was perfectly happy with those numbers because I had no expectations for myself. However, I eventually started getting better and examining my swing and start shooting low 90s more often and thats when the frustration set in because I was at a point where I knew i could hit every "golf" shot there was... at least on the range. I knew if i could put a good round together I could easily shoot close to par but I never got there. I'd always have 2 or 3 holes I would blow up on. I took a long break because I got engaged and some of my friends I played with regularly moved away. But now I'm back and I'm also back to shooting around 110 but can still hit all the golf shots on the range. Its still really frustrating but im trying to work through my swing mechanics again and eventually I will break 90 and then 80 and then 70

I got some screen grabs of my first DTL driver swing. I'm not really seeing too much wrong with it. My swing path is a little steep (butt of club is point inside the target line on the downswing). Maybe someone else can point out what I'm doing wrong. Setup Takeaway Full load Downswing1 Downswing2 Contact

Wildly inconsistent - Driver is biggest problem

I went out to the range today after work and tried to setup and record my swing myself. I got some ok video and started a swing thread. Hopefully I'll get some better video the next time I go. I was really trying to mentally focus on keeping the club face closed throughout my swing. I hit a few non-slice drives but the ball flight was kind of low and they didn't really have the carry they should have. http://thesandtrap.com/t/81568/my-swing-bankquant -
I've been Playing Golf for: 3 or 4 years My current handicap index or average score is: 90 to 110 My typical ball flight is: high fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: mishits, slice with driver Videos: Down the line (PW or 9i): Down the line (driver): First swing is a slice, not sure about 2nd but the last swing is a slow, straight, slightly pulled ball Face on view (driver): I tried to get a front shot when the guy behind me left but I had to be quick cause others were waiting, didn't have much time to adjust the angle so you cant really see the setup. The ball is on or just inside my front foot and I keep my feet slightly open naturally but this is also recommended in the 'stop slicing your driver thread' . I'll try to get a better angle once I can convince my wife to come and film me. You can see me look at the club head after the first swing. I actually hit off the top of the club head and left a big scuff mark. The 2nd shot I sliced somewhat bad. I think the others and the last one where slight fades or moderate slices.

140mph + head speed, but driver is still bad.

A little background: I'm 31, I started playing golf about 3 years ago. I'm not a big guy, 5'10 160lbs but I hit the ball pretty far. Routine distances for the 3W and Driver are hard to pinpoint but I hit my PW about 150 swinging about 80% effort. I hit my 5i between 200 and 220. I'll be starting a swing thread as soon as I can convince my wife to come to the driving range with me and film my swing. My biggest issue in my game is just the wild inconsistency. I've been trying different training methods, tried slowing down my swing even more and nothing seems to be working. At the driving range I have an excellent ability to control the flight path for all my clubs up until I start getting past the 7i, it starts dropping off pretty quickly after that. I hardly have any mishits with my irons on the range. As I get up to my 3W and my driver things start to get really crazy. With my 9i I might have 9 out 10 good shots; with my driver its more like 1 out of 10 good shots. I got some chalk and a dry erase marker because I thought I might be hitting the ball in the wrong spots but I discovered that I'm mostly hitting it dead center or slightly high center, which should be perfect for a driver. However, for my mishits they are all over the place. Sometimes they are low and inside and more often the high and on the toe. But even when I hit dead center the ball has a nasty slice. Its been frustrating me to get this figured out because I can hit draws, fades, etc at will with my low irons. I tried to carry over the same principles and setup to my driver and it doesn't seem to work. With the chalk I think I have narrowed down the biggest part of my inconsistency to just the club face being open at impact. It might be hard to tell without a high frame rate video but I'll see once I get my swing recorded. But that still doesn't explain all the other random mishits, topping the ball, hitting it fat, hitting it on the toe, hitting it on the heal. I'm not really sure why I'm all over the place. I'm currently using a really cheap Adams tight lies driver (think its standard flex) and pinemeadows 3W which I love when I can hit it right. I went and tried various drivers at a local golf shop and didnt end up upgrading my driver because I couldnt notice any difference in consistency or distance . I think the majority of the swing speed readings were between 117 - 120mph but I was swinging much softer then I normally do because I didnt want to break their drivers (I've broken 3 drivers and 2 woods in the past by hitting the ball on the hosle and breaking the club head off). I don't want to buy an expensive driver and the bash up of top edge and scuff it all up like my current driver. Once I improve my consistency I'll think about getting something better.

pinemeadow vs gigagolf vs diamond tour etc.
bankquant replied to jt952's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a pinemeadows white command 3W and I love it. Its probably my favorite club in my bag and I hit it further and more consistently then my Adams driver . The finish on the bottom started to wear off pretty quickly but thats kind of expected. -
I did a quick search and didnt see any threads about this. Has anyone had much experience with setting up their own video and playback at the range so you can get instant feedback? When I was first learning to play golf I got a groupon deal for a swing evaluation and afterwards they talked me into signing up for 3 lessons that I could take at any time during a 3 month period. The only reason I really agreed to it was that they also allowed me unlimited access to their indoor facility during that 3 month period. They had 4 practice bays and as long as one wasnt in use by the instructors or other people practicing I could come in and use it as much as I wanted. They were never all full. They had a great setup with a TV on a constant 5 second delay so you could watch your swing immediately after. It was also covered by a dry-erase sheet so you could draw setup lines and watch how your swing path changed throughout our swing. You could also rewind and playback in slow motion. I was thinking about how I could setup something similar for myself at the range. Could possibly use an iPad on stand for the video playback and hook it up to some small digital camera. Then cover it with some plastic sheet so I could draw lines on it. Has anyone already done this? If so, what equipment did you use?

Hi all...just joined. I'm not really sure about my handicap. I've shot 90 a couple times but normally its probably around 100 to 105. I'm 31 now and only started playing about 3 years ago. I took a long break from golf for close to a year now (played a couple rounds but havent practiced at all). Now im trying to get back in and really improve my game. From the very beginning of when I first started playing I have been a long hitter. Perhaps its because ive played ice hockey my whole life or am just naturally athletic. My biggest problem is just consistency.. I can hit almost every shot in the book but I'll usually blow up completely on 2 or 3 holes in a round which will destroy my score. Other than that I'm usually par or bogey on most holes. I just recently got a laser range finder for my birthday so I've made a concerted effort to really nail down the distances I hit my clubs. Driver: not really sure on an average because I hardly ever get a shot that I feel like I really hit. However, I do know i have hit one over 320 on the course once 3 wood: probably about 260 3 hybrid: not quite sure, cant hit hybrids consistently, usuallly either go with 5i or 3w 4 hybrid: not quite sure, cant hit hybrids consistently, usuallly either go with 5i or 3w 5 iron 210 - 220 6 iron 190 7 iron 175 8 iron 165 9 iron 155 Pw 150 sw 125 I'm pretty sure I need to get a gap wedge because of the huge gap between my PW and SW. I'm one of those golfs that can paint a 10 circle with my SW thru 7i but once I start getting above those my consistency drops dramatically. The only exception being my 3W. Besides my low irons I hit that really well and will almost never use my driver during a round because of how far I hit my 3W. I normally place an either almost completely straight iron shot or slight pull-fade. My most frequent miss with my driver is a huge slice. I'm hoping after a few more times at the range I can really figure out how far I hit my driver and hybrids with what I believe is a well struck ball.
