  1. Hey Free--I definitely want to make it out there. What did you like about it more than some of the other big-name SC courses (Kiawah's courses, Harbourtown, Myrtle, etc.)?
  2. Hey Hurley, First off thanks for the heads up about the caddies. Trust me I don't plan on thinking I'm Superman out there. Good to hear the River course is also a blast to play--unfortunately I only have time for the two courses (bringin the wife along so squeezing in 36 a day won't be possible)... Anyway thanks again...
  3. Hi everyone, I'm making it to Wisconsin for two nights at Kohler and am getting onto the Straits course and the Blackwolf River course... Curious to know if anyone has any tips, tidbits, or recommendations to share...did anyone have a great caddie they'd play with again, or one i should toss into lake michigan? will be back with some photos next week! TIA-- Chris
  4. Thanks a lot guys. Definitely makes perfect sense that the person making the tee time has to be there to play...I tried convincing my buddy that he's not quite smart enough to game a system notorious for not being gamed, but he still wanted to know it first-hand. Thanks for the walk-on info too. I may just leave his butt at home and go the single route myself. Oh yeah, is the Black open 7 days a week or is it closed every Monday or something...?
  5. Hi guys, As I continue trying to figure out how to get myself on the Black, a buddy posed an interesting question: if you have the PIN number or ID to call the bethpage reservation system, does that person have to show up to play? Like if I had a knucklehead call the line and book a foursome, does that same knucklehead have to be present or can a foursome have nothing to do with who made the reservation? Thanks as always...
  6. hehe I played EagleGlen in the summer when the salmon had already spawned and were basically floating down the river that runs through the course...definitely something i've never seen before or since, but definitely a great time...coulda sworn I was going to pop up a tee shot and clang it off an F-16 when those were coming in...
  7. played kiawah, pinehurst 2, the moose track in alaska, and hold a membership at pbdye in MD...good times...
  8. i had a pretty fun year in 2006: pinehurst #2 & #8 (going back in two weeks to #2) pebble & spanish bay (dagg to me: spyglass was hosting a tourney) kiawah ocean course the falls & reflection bay bulle rock royal liverpool-hoylake we'll see what transpires this year, but i have kohler booked for my 30th birthday. also trying to play golf in all 50 states and have Dubsdread (illinois) and Brickyard Crossing (IN) on the books too to knock out a few more states (should put me up to about 25 or so...)
  9. pretty good year so far: february: pinehurst #8, #2 april: royal liverpool hoylake (little cooler than when the big boys were there) may: bulle rock (a stretch to include on this list...) july: ocean course at kiawah and tuesday the 15th have a 9:30 tee time at pebble, 16th is spanish bay... still want to hack it up on the black though...
  10. I think the course will provide a greater challenge than it's been given credit for in a number of US magazines (particularly the asinine Golf Digest article where the author practically suggests that the R & A close up shop because the courses are too well, royal and ancient). the combination of the dry fairways and the crosswinds coming from every angle will certainly make for some challenging shots--fire a runner to keep it low and out of the wind and compensate for the fast fairways, or risk hanging it in the air? i played hoylake in april when it was about 50 degrees (farenheit, chaps ;)) and i can only imagine how the summer winds and gorse wlll be influencing a great Open i can't wait to watch...
  11. web site design/interface designer for a few companies in and around washington dc...gets me on the course often enough so can't argue with that!
  12. thanks for the heads up Flap. Glad I wouldn't have showed up at 9am to a closed course. I could certainly arrange it for only myself, two or three guys--needless to say I'd follow your lead on what's best. Knowing that I'd actually get on the course would really make travelling easier--I'll shoot you a PM a little later if you don't mind. This site/forum really is a great resource (just stumbled upon it a few days ago...)...
  13. Best: Exploding golf ball when executed flawlessly Worst: Exploding golf balls that look nothing like a real golf ball, thus exposing the brilliant plan to set up the mark...
  14. Hi everyone, I'm interested in playing the Black over Columbus Day (that Monday the 9th). Curious to know how succesful the sleepover would be on a quasi-holiday. If I showed up at 9pm Sunday would I likely get on the course or be stuck hangin around on Tuesday as well? Would I be better off just trying a random Wednesday instead (but coming from DC makes it tough for that...). We can bring grills and beers into the parking lot, right? Didn't see too much on the NY park site that alluded to any rules/laws about the big sleepover in the parkin lot so I'm looking for a few tips...
  15. Hey Cheff-- Never played #4 but I was expecting to this month so here's what I found out when I called last week: First, make sure to call ahead to confirm it's even open--I found out the weekend I initially wanted to play that #4 was bought out Friday through Saturday for a charity tourney. Then they also told me that they only take tee times from full foursomes, and that the *members* get first priority for those times. However, since they only can reserve foursomes, singles can usually make it out at decent times to round those out. Again, I've never played, but if you're just lookin into it hopefully this helps a bit...
