  1. Thursday night 9 hole league... a night to forget. First it was a crazy day at work and was there 2 hours past my last patient. Then I had a meeting and had to speed across town to make my tee time. Ended up hitting 10 balls and a couple of putts before I teed off. Double bogeyed the first 4 holes with 3 balls in hazards, bogeyed the next 3 holes and parred the last 2. Really had no idea where the ball was going all night.
  2. I'm not an expert on ball technology but it seems the balls like the Srixon and Volvik have a different cover type to make them that fluorescent glow. Other balls like the Calloway Hex Chrome and Titleist NXT don't have the same type appearance. Anyone aware of differences in the technology of the covers or is it all cosmetic?
  3. Totally agree. I know Titleist makes the NXT tour in yellow but never the Pro V1. I would buy a different colored ProV in a heartbeat... are they just not interested in that market or just feel, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
  4. Is it hard to find the green ball sometimes? It would be like playing a camouflage ball in the woods.
  5. For the last couple of years I've been using a yellow ball, usually the Callaway Hex Chrome yellow or Srixon Z Star yellow but the last couple of rounds I used the Taylor Made Project (a) ball and really liked the performance... i.e. I played well. Whenever anyone asks me why I play the yellow ball I typically say because it's one less thing I have to worry about. I almost never have to worry about playing the wrong ball or if that's my ball or the green or someone else's. With a glance I can just look and say, "nope, not my ball... I'm the yellow one". On the other hand, I love the feel of Pro V1's and I really liked the Taylor Made ball... but white balls seem so bland. Some of it may be a status issue... not may players on the PGA Tour play a yellow ball. I think I saw VJay playing one recently. Anyone else have thoughts about the yellow versus white ball?
  6. Last year during our league playoffs my teammate and I were playing a 4 ball match against another twosome... I was up against one player and he was against the other. The third hole is a medium length par 5 with water along both sides of the fairway. The left side water goes all the way down the fairway and there is a very slight dogleg to the left just at the green... so to go for it in two you usually have to carry the ball at least 220. For most people it's a three shot hole. I'm in the fairway and would end up with a birdie, net eagle on the hole. My partner's opponent pull hooks his second shot in the water... thinking the situation is obvious I don't say a word to my teammate... just enjoy the scenery and mentally putting down the hole for our team. He proceeds to take out a hybrid and puts his second shot in the water right by his opponent. I'm gobsmacked. Just stand there and look at him... "Dude... what the F are you doing?" He's like, "yea, I probably should have just laid up with an iron". Me, "ya, think?". Not the technically worst shot I've seen... but given the situation it was the worst shot ever.
  7. played in my regular 9-hole Thursday night league last night and shot 41. Disappointing because I was hitting the ball very good and missed 2 tricky 3 footers for par. Overall, 1 birdie, 3 pars, 4 bogeys and a double. 2 of the bogeys were of the 3 putt variety. On the positive, my intermediate putting was pretty good with a couple of just miss birdies and a make. On the negative, of 3 chip opportunities I only converted 1. Fairways hit: 3/7, Greens hit: 6/9. Putts: 17 (yuck).
  8. I'm trying to work on 2 things right now.. 1. Turning 3 or 4 shots around the green into 2 shots... mostly getting better at chipping. I'm trying to hit at least 100 chips and pitches per day and I've discovered my main flaw is when I'm under pressure my body stops turning and I get handsy. 2. Keeping the ball in play off of the tee. Most of my big scores start with a bad drive into trouble and I'm trying to control my "big miss" which is a pull hook. working a lot on alignment and have discovered I play my driver way too far back. Of course, always looking to improve putting and thinking about changing to a face balanced mallet style putter.
  9. I'm an Internal Medicine physician in Spokane, Washington and the US Army Reserves. I often do Google searches for golf stuff before I buy and keep stumbling onto this site. It has a lot of great information and I'm sure I will be able to help my game. Todd Gottschalk
