  1. I've been enjoying my cheap-o $99 jmax driver. I broke one already but they have a life time guarentee. I hit a couple 280+ the other day, the last one I had was cut down to 44" and I need to do the same with the new one. At 44" it is very accurate and forgiving.
  2. Looks like 2nd swing is out of business and having liquidation sales. May want to see if they have any good deals.
  3. I've found I top it every now and again, on the tee I tee it very low, and some times just don't even use a tee. I've had much better results that way.
  4. I've seen the halo for $99 a few places.
  5. I was torn between the hibore and halo as well. On the simulator I hit the hibore about 25 yards further average of 10 shots, and much more accurate. Now that I've had it a few weeks, I can say I really like the club. They look almost exaclty alike and I've no clue why there would be such a big difference in performance, but there was. The hibore was also $80 more, but I had just won a bunch of $$ playing poker and rationalized it as a "freebie". Glad I did. On the course this thing is very versitile, and great out of the rough, tee, and fairway. 5 wood is out of the bag forever I think. I also hit the sonartec and did not like the results as much as the cleveland gear.
  6. I have started to hit all my irons 10-15 yards farther than normal, what gives? It started out of nowhere last weekend, everything from my pitching wedge to my 3i is now longer. I would normaly hit my 8i 135 flat, and I hit a shot up to a severe uphil green that was 140-145 and carried it 10 yards over. I'm not swinging any harder, my swing hasn't changed all that much, i'm baffled how it can happen out of nowhere. The only thing I can think of is that I stopped practicing in the morning for about a week, perhaps some muscle growth happened or something.
  7. One more detail is that everything closes at around 4:30 so getting 36 in is not exactly easy in a single day if you get a late 1st teetime.
  8. I picked up a cleveland hibore hybrid last saturday and freaking love it. It is great for the rough, tee, fairway. I compared it to the sonartec, and halo at golf galaxy and hit it very straight and long compared to the halo, I just didn't like the feel of the sonartec, and I have never had a 5 wood I liked. Odd thing about the hibore vs the halo was they look almost identical. I had my heart set on the halo going in too, it was also about $75 cheaper, but the difference in feel and performance was considerable. I played it 3 rounds over the long weekend and hit some real beautifull shots with it, shots I never had in my bag prior to picking this up. It is my first hybrid.
  9. My first set were golden bears, great beginner clubs.
  10. I found the forward press advice on the chipping not so great. My pro had me pressing at least as far as that guy was, which I was uncomfortable with at first but has been working pretty well for me, I chipped one in from about 35 feet last weekend. I can understand that you'd want to not press quite as much if you want to go high, but I was told just to move the ball up in my stance for height.
  11. sales, internet infrastructure...
  12. I've found these every now and again on the range and wondered what they were... now i know. These things are awsome, i've played a couple rounds with a single on of these, and we don't have matts at our range so the things are invaluable.
  13. beware the crappy courses, I was down this year for the first time and 2/3 were dog tracks. It was cheap though.
  14. get both if you have the $$. The only reason I didn't get a rangefinder was size/weight, and i use my phone for GPS so I only had to add the reciever which is the size of a matchbox.
  15. round 3 shot a 135 thinking about quitting golf
  16. Round 2 shot a 101 with 7 pars and 4 eights, and one 10... How can you get 7 pars and shoot a 101?
  17. Shot a god awfull 117 yesterday. Club championship too. I had a 66 on the front and a 51 on the back. The 51 I got a 9 and an 11 so there is some hope, I had 3 par holes in a row. I need some amazing scores moving forward to do anything, I just wish I hadn't broken my driver Thursday, real bad timing on that one.
  18. you should have name the thread "can't get it up" /me runs
  19. Am I the only one playing in the hurricane tonight who needs rain gear?
  20. I must be gettin cheap, but am I? Why is a rain shirt from footjoy $150? I just want a form fitting rain jacket/shirt, anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at some of the sunmountain stuff but it looks like crap and super cheapie.
  21. Here is what golfonline says in this link that goes against the awareness golf method. Focus On The Right Hand The key to a delayed wrist cock is in the right hand. It must cock at the top of the swing and remain cocked until the last possible moment during the downswing. To learn the feeling, stand erect and bend your right arm at the elbow as if you were reaching to shake somebody's hand. Flex the wrist so the thumb points back toward your chest. That's a fully-cocked position. Add your left hand and make an imaginary grip. This is the wrist cock you want at the top of your backswing. Make some practice swings, first without a club then with a club, feeling the right wrist cock and uncock. Perhaps my swing isn't weak
  22. That is interesting because I just a had a lesson a week and a half ago and the PGA pro did not say i needed to focus on bending the wright wrist back and when I asked him about the wrist cock he explained that everything hinges maintaining the wrist angles you have at address. I honestly never focused on the right wrist angle as I understood that the left side should be doing most of the work. I guess I have a weak golf swing.
  23. I don't think it should be flat or parallel to the ground like your have are carrying something flat. I would think you would want it to not change the angle to the face that you have at address, flat would seem to open the club up don't you think? To be clear by flat at the top I mean closer to perpendicular to the forearm. Perhaps a big forward press moves your closer to this condition, but I have been trying to get rid of most of my forward press.
  24. if you mean bent to the left or right you I think you are wrong. If you address the ball normally you should be able to see the proper wrist cock if you stay at address and hing your wrists to pick the club straight up towards your face but not moving your arms, kinda like drinking a beer. You can then just turn your shoulders and get to the top. Obviously you don't want to do this in your swing during a round, but during the PGA one player acually was cocking his wrists like this, then turning his shoulders and swinging. The reason he was doing this was because of a wrist injury and it was the only way he could swing, I tried it at the range and you can actually hit the ball pretty good doing it, but I would only use it to check to see if they are in the right position. There is no subsitute to a pro however, a 1/2 hour lesson should give you a good refresher on the basics. Some people cup the wrist to the right or left, it opens and closes the club but your most likely good with square. my .02
  25. Anyone try one of these, i'd love to try it. http://www.l2putter.com/ apparently these types have made it to the tour every great now and again but I can't say i've ever seen it.
