They have a Roger Dunn there which is nice. After 5-6 balls... feels like a regular range. I can't tell the balls are heavier.

Is there a big difference? How much? I've hit all 3 indoors and really... can't tell. I'm asking b/c the difference is $400... I don't know if it's worth it. Thanks.

Anybody know a good place? Cheap is nice... but good is better. Thanks in advance.

Anything else I should try and hit?
skwon11 replied to skwon11's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks everybody for the comments. I have hit some of those irons... (the Callaways... I have no feel at all after the hit. The Cleveland irons... just didn't hit them well) but for some reason never Titleist or Nikes. The Titleist... for some reason I think they are beyond me (I know they are GI irons but still)... I always think Davis Love is staring at me (it's the ball ad in the magazines) which I think is intimidating. The Nikes... for some reason... the Tiger thing intimidates me as well. Off to Roger Dunn then to hit some more irons... I love the Launcher hybrids though... long, high and straight... I can even bend the ball with them! -
In the market for some new irons. Like the Pings... like the weight, feel, forgiveness... using impact tape I hit it center a good deal of the time... the larger sole although initially not a fan of... I think it helps. Before I commit though... anything else I should hit? Similar that is to the Pings (G5, 10's or 15's)?

Anybody out there not carrying FW woods anymore? For a lot of reasons... I'm thinking about just carrying another hybrid in my bag. If anybody has forgone FW woods... any suggestions on a strong hybrids? I don't think many companies make hybrids with 15 degrees or less of loft... and... they are hard to find. Thanks.

how many strokes is new equipment worth?
skwon11 replied to clearwaterms's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think it depends on how good you are. The better you are, that 10 yards extra or that ability to hold greens is going to give you that 2-3 shot savings you're looking for. For me though... it's 10 more yards in the forest or my approach that holds the rough (Vs. green) and so... not much. Having said that, I hit a 44 on 9 the other day (I've never gone under 100 in my life prior) and that's all due to 1 thing... practice. I have a set of "not too hot" clone golf clubs under the guise of the "it's the indian, not the arrow." I'm wondering now if it is time to get some new clubs. -
Shaft not being an issue (there is of course small amount of additional weight as the shaft gets longer)... Are the golf head weights in a set of irons relatively uniform? Are they supposed to be? My irons seem heavier P-6 and then 5-3 seem lighter. I realize they are progressive (muscle to cavity) but... I can feel the difference and personally.. .I don't like it (I like the heavier weights). I'm thinking about new clubs and I like Pings... don't know if they are all uniform weight but... they seem to feel like it. Thoughts?

Thanks all... but anything particular to the different hybrids available?
-
I know you can do either but I'm having some difficulty. I play with a Nickent 3DX 3 Ironwood (graphite regular flex shaft). With a good lie, I play it forward and sweep it... plays great... easy... much easier than my a fairway wood. When I play in the rough or not so great lie, I try to play it like an iron, hit down on it and it just fades/slices a bit more than I'd like. I went to the range and was able to demo the Cleveland Launcher Hybrid (same loft, similar shaft) and the opposite. Hook it when I play it forward but when I play it like an iron (center stance hitting down) it takes off.. beautiful. Does it just depend on the club? Any hybrids that I can use as both? Maybe it's me?

Thanks for all the replies. I PM'd you. I too though am thinking about setting up a hitting area in my garage or tiny backyard. I would rather it be the backyard so I can make use of the tiny plot of grass. Any suggestions on regrowing the grass after making a bunch of divots? There is that stuff that looks like green cotton candy but I have no idea if that stuff would work well enough. I could always buy a matt but... hitting off grass is ideal.

I searched to forum so I woulnd't have to post but found nothing. I live in Anaheim Hills (92807) CA. Does anybody know of a field that you can hit at? I lived on the east coast for a long time and as long as nobody was around you could just hit balls on any soccer field that available. Here... there are signs everywhere... no golf. Anybody? Buying a few dozen balls sure beats paying to practice over and over again. Thanks.

Any drills to hold the lag? I'd rather not try to consciously do it... in the past... doing things like that plays some havoc on my swing.
-
I can do it... small accomplishment but now that I can do it... I get it. The ball flight is different... it doesn't just move towards the sky in a straight line... it takes off like a plane (not the distance... just the ball flight... although the distance is better as well). But I have an issue that I'm hoping to get a comment or 2 on... To get the feeling I'll put the ball back just behind center... play it like a punch. Feels great. But when I put the ball position back up to center or just slightly forward of center... just not happening. I don't mind playing my irons just slightly back of center but... does anybody know why this is happening? Comments welcome!

Do you hit the ball better though with the wide sole? My next set of clubs are going to be a wider sole club (like Pings) b/c I just hit them better. For me the divots are about the same regardless.

If this thread needs to be moved please move. With personal time constraints, 18 holes is kind of difficult. Do any OC (California that is) people know where one could play 9 in the area? If you do, please drop me a line via this thread. I live right by Anaheim Hills Golf Course... closer the better!

How far are you willing to drive out to play? Just to look at... http://www.boston.com/travel/explore.../golf_courses/

So for consistency I've been trying to change over to a one plane swing... it's actually been helping but I'm hoping to find some help/instruction with my wrists before I develop some bad habits. 2 issues. 1) In general what do I do? Right now as my left arm crosses the chest and the right forearm gets more vertical and behind me I feel my left wrist movement is just passive.... is this correct? 2) Is it ok to preset my wrists? What I mean is that the wrists start the movement around my body. It feels like I'm more consistent if I do this but like I said, don't want to develop bad habits. Any comments would be great! Thanks.

Things you wish you would have known when you started
skwon11 replied to TMO's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
To take lessons... and as often as you can afford. And not to learn about the game (you can do that on your own)... but just for somebody to get rid of bad habits as you are forming them. Otherwise, like me, you start working around those habits vs. work at getting rid of them. -
Could you tell me, in your opinion, compared to other clubs... do they look thick? I know look is secondary but... I can't tell from pictures. When I think thick... I think Callaway X-22... they hit well... but they are not pretty.

Looking for any info Adams A2 irons. I know they are old but I've hit everything Adams at Roger Dunn and was just curious about these irons. Not the OS. I've googled just for info regarding topline width (b/c the A3's are relatively thin... which is nice) as well as how they look on address.... but to no avail. I know there was a review here (which was good) but just wanted more info. Any info you could give would be great (especially if you play or have played them). I'm in no rush to buy... just want to be complete in my future purchase. Thanks in advance.

Sunglasses/Contacts/Transitions
skwon11 replied to skwon11's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Anybody know where you can get prescription sunglasses cheap? -
My eyes are bad... so I wear glasses. When I golf though... it's a pain. I often lose balls after hitting them because the view of the ball sails over the upper rim. In addition, since they are not sporty glasses, they tend to drift down my nose. I like my glasses though. I can't do contacts (just don't work for my eyes) and although those Ambervision glasses (infomercial I've bet some of you have seen) would work... although I'm not into style that much... I don't think I could bear wearing them. So sunglasses or new glasses. They would need to be prescription, of course, but... anybody out there use transitions lenses on the course? Any luck with those bands which wrap the glasses around your head so they don't fall down? Any comments welcome! Oh... I don't want to do laser correction. I know it's great but... I'll admit it... eye surgery freaks me out.

I was thinking that too and next time I go out I'm thinking of a way to get some impact tape on the hosel to see. I just think it strange that hitting off the hosel can give me a consistently awful shot out to the right.

usually dead center or slightly forward of center. sometimes, to work on lag, i'll tee it up play the ball behind center to get the compression feel... same 1/7-8 will push+++.
