  1. I hate wearing gloves but I have the sweatiest hands. The warmer the weather, the more I'll wear a glove. If it's cool out... I like the feel without the glove.
  2. I only have time to hit the range twice a week. I'll putt and chip whenever I'm at the range. At home I'll try to chip anywhere I can (inside or right outside) a few times per week. I play when I can... which is not very often. Danny, do you know what ranges in OC are not using mats? Or let me rephrase, I'd like to hit off grass. It's just not a natural feel hitting irons off mats. Whatever you know... let me know.
  3. Like everybody else, I think you're doing just fine. Not that my handicap lets me dispense advice but I always say, regardless of how good you are, have small goals along the way. The first lesson I took, the teacher told me that the next time on the range, my goal should be no ground balls. So instead of focusing on other things that were getting ahead of myself and thus get me frustrated, that's what I thought about and did. My goals now are; no slices with any of my clubs when I'm at the range and no 4 putts on the greens. Small goals.
  4. This is a great post... I too have been thinking about my setup as well. My swing speed is slow and so driver and long irons are particularly had to hit... I just bought a Nickent 3 Hybrid to replace my 3 iron/5 wood distance. At this point I'm only thinking (until I get better) to invest in a 3 wood that I can hit off the tee and as a long fairway wood. So my bag will be. 3 wood, Hybrid (20 degrees), 4-PW, 56 wedge and putter. 11 clubs... but 11 clubs that I can actually use vs. 3 extra that will give me trouble.
  5. Driver, 3 and 5 Woods: Free Hybrid: $50 Irons: $150 Wedge: Free Putter: Free Bag: $50 Total: $250 Free is nice... but you have no choice. New putter, wedges and woods coming soon...
  6. I was taught to look at the ball only so much as it will keep your head down so you finish the swing b/f looking at the path. So... whatever keeps your head down.
  7. When I was a kid, my Dad signed me up for lessons and I remember just swinging and the guy telling me things (all good tips) and my adjusting and that was it. But I'm not a kid anymore. I took a golf lesson at the Del Mar (near San Diego) and it was the best 1 hour of fun I have had in a while. He watched me hit and then we talked about goals for the next year (break 100 and then 90) and how best to accomplish it with my swing. He told me what he had planned (ditch the driver for now, get more consistent (in regards to accuracy) with my other clubs and then work on my chipping and putting). He wanted to make sure I was ok with this and then off we went. He told me to write things down after the lesson. Within the 1st 20 minutes my slice was gone and then next 20-30 minutes were chipping and putting (more strategy (aiming, time in the air and roll of the ball)) as well as drills to work on galore. I wrote everything down and he told me he'd be happy to see me every week (business) but it would be good to see me if I couldn't accomplish my goals or had new goals. That was a great lesson and that's what I expect from one.
  8. Fred Couples with the best, no doubt. Just looks so smooth. Oddly though, I saw a show on the Golf Channel with Tony Jacklin and his swing looks even smoother... I would love to have seen it when he was younger. Ugliest to me is John Daly. It's exciting though... but the hands and wrists are just too much.
  9. I am a Pediatrician and look at this forum between patients... I just started a new job so until I get busy... I'll be looking a lot.
  10. This is an older thread I know but I have a question... Would it just be easier for a high handicapper (like myself) to buy 1 wedge (say 56) and just learn how to hit as many shots consistently with it as possible? I don't know the point (unless your handicap is better) of having 3-4 wedges if you can't hit any of them. I'm currently using a old 56 Cobra Sand wedge as my only wedge (pitching not included). I'm getting pretty good at hitting most "wedge" shots with this and my only problem is spin which I think may be made easier with a newer grooved wedge (any suggestions on a new wedge?). Thoughts?
