I have never given much thought about the things that would be considered women friendly on a golf course. I like the majority of what was discussed in this thread. I can think of one thing that wasn't mentioned. At a lot of courses I have played, there has been course books available. The books usually provide course management hints. I am thinking one that discusses all the tee boxes, in gender nuetral terms, would be great. It occurrs to me that most of the books are written with the Blue/White Tees in mind. To me, this just creates the implication that not a lot of thought went into the tee placement of the reds.

It's funny....in a thread I started, you said to stick with the MX series without saying why.

Mizuno introduces the sound of feel
Damien45 replied to GaijinGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ever since I hit a set of returns at the local store I have been obsessed with getting a set. I just went to a Demo Day, hit everything, and got fitted. Now just looking for the right place to buy from. I am getting the MP 52, with the MP Fli Hi in 2 and 3...maybe 4 also. I already returned my Cleveland 47 & 60 for the MP-T 51 wedge. I absolutely love the communication I get from hitting the Mizuno irons and wedges. Ever since I got my Cobra Driver, I know immediately when I hit toe or heel. As a result, my driving consistancy has improved. I can not wait to learn about my irons in the same way! -
Buying a new set of Mizuno irons, got a question
Damien45 replied to Damien45's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The biggest numbers in my score are from short game and somewhat from my current irons. Based on the fitting I had, my current irons are 1/2in short and 2 degress flat from what I need. I do top the ball or hit it fat as a result of leaning too far over. Would the MP-T not be a good idea for full shots? For the most part, right now my PW is used at 120yrd full shots. I use my 56 degree around the greens the most. I am still working on my pitch technique. -
Ok, why should I stick with the MX?

Buying a new set of Mizuno irons, got a question
Damien45 replied to Damien45's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I will probably go with the chrome finish (to match the 51 degree gap I ordered). I really like the sole of the MP T (the C Grind). It's a lot different than the sole of the PW. -
So, the demo day included Cobra, Callaway, Taylor Made, Ping, Bridgestone, and Titeilest. I hit just about every club I had guestions about. As a results I discovered the following: 1 If you get fitted for irons, do it at a range where you can hit off the ground and watch it fly. Learned a lot about my previous fitting. 2 For me, the Mizuno MP T Wedge is AWESOME! I ordered one as well as the MP Fli Hi 2. 3 I am so saving up to order my Mizuno MP-52's. I was told the 57's would work, but take longer to get used to. That was a great experience. I have had my mind opened for options I hadn't considered based on product descriptions/reviews. I have some things to look at once I get my new irons.

I really appreciate the input! I guess there are a few companies that will be at the course this Sat. So far Mizuno, Cobra and Titleist will be there.

Wow that would be confusing. I have always heard to sweep through, or up, on the ball with a driver and down on the ball with irons. Well long irons can be a flatter downward swing (almost a sweep) is the other thing I've heard. Yeah, I'd be scratching my head too.....but Sweep the Driver is what works for me.

Yeah, don't cry...but I play Black Horse/Bayonet for $11.....Gotta love being in the Military (sometimes lol)

It's ironic that you mention that (the bold part). I had a sales person tell me to stick with cast cavity back irons and handed me a Callaway X-22. I took 3 swings and it felt like swinging a hammer at a bolt. The flight path was worse, shorter, and left. No thanks. I am looking pretty hard at the 52's. I want to get to the demo day to see what Mizuno has to say/offer (test the 62 and 57s). Plus I want to try the MP FLi Hi. In my old set of irons, I had a 2i that I hit really well. Used it as my driver for the longest time because I was consistant with it. I have Baffler 2 and 3 hybrids now. I get less consistant results with it because I sometimes swing it like a wood. It's a mental thing. Plus I really want to take a look at their wedges. I have Clevelands now, but considering the lie adjustment/forged feel on such important scoring clubs. I will probably keep my Cleveland 56 (my sandwedge) due to the abuse it will get from bunkers anyway. Plus, the results I am getting with it are amazing!

Are you referring to the Sunnyvale course that is off Wolfe? Doesn't that one have large powerline towers running through it? lol I may be up that way next month. I'd be happy to get some golf in! If you are ever in the Monterey area, hit me up! I usually play at Black Horse / Bayonet.

I agree with what has been said so far. I would only add that you need to take into account your playing conditions. Are you fairways harder, or mushy? Do you have a lot of low trees with bunkers to go over? Know what situations you tend to get into, and have to hit off of when you go talk to the store. They should be able to help narrow down your wedge and bounce loft choices.

bridgestone ball fitting?
Damien45 replied to Laxplayer201092's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I did the online fitting. There were a two questions that had two possible answers, so I mixed it up. Out of the 4 results, 3 where the B330S. I tried the ball and it is great! -
It seems to me that your friend is overly competetive and likes having someone he can beat. So continue getting better and whoop dat ars! Do you usually stick to 9 holes at a time? Seems by your story that you do. Where do you play? I am in Monterey, and have family in Sunnyvale (where I was born). I'd be happy to hit the course with you one weekend that I am up there.

Bridgestone has a ball fitter application on their website. They generally take some stats and provide recommendations. Much like getting fitted for clubs. The thing about it is that stores don't generally do it, but find a demo/fitting day for ball manufacturers.

I currently have my Cobra LD F Speed that I love. The Cobra guys will be at the course on the same day....so might look at the S9-1.... Now, the 3 wood is a different story. Thinking of checking out all the available ones there.

That is awesome! Arizona is my home, while I am stationed in Monterey. Before I joined the Navy, I went on a "Troon Tour" with my uncle. We hit every Troon Course in Phoenix/Scottsdale/Prescott. Amazing golf! Glad you enjoyed yourself. Sorry to hear about the snow!

IOWA, I was on the same quest recently. To my amazement the Titleist ProV1 (andx), Bridgestone B330 S, and Z-Stars all made great choices. I never tried the Callaway, but I am going to soon. These balls are all designed to minimize driver spin and "maximize" spin from scoring iron/wedges. The x versions are lower on the iron/wedge spin. I did not think a premium ball was "within my game"....I was wrong. Now I feel like my handicap has no where to go but down!

So I am considering upgrading my irons to Mizunos. Some quick background info on my game: I score in the 90's mostly due to my fairway/chipping. I have started working on my chipping. Most of my fairway iron shots are a result of my irons are longer than standard, with standard lie. I tend to hit them fat, or if I choke up a little bit the toe hits the ground. So I am getting fitted in hopes of helping with this. When I am able to be consistant with my swing/setup, I get great results from my irons. What Mizuno models would be worth considering and trying at the demo day? Does anyone have experience with the the MP Fli Hi vs Clik Fli Hi? How about their wedges? I want irons that will challenge me to improve. I absolutely enjoy making pure iron shots.

I was out playing yesterday. Well playing is a term I will use loosely! lol I am still working on ball choice, tee height, sand and chips. I like to go out and play once in a while to see what I really need to focus on. Anyway..... So, I really have two shots I am proud of from yesterday. The first was a bunker shot. Lately my sand work has improved immensely. I was in what I will call a green "guardian" bunker. It was about 30yrds off the green, from the center of the bunker. My shot was sweet and true! I left the ball within 3'. It was a 1 putt par save. The second shot was when I was on the right side in the trees. It was a Par 5 and I was towards the end of the tree line. I really had 3 choices, 1 (safe) pitch to the fairway and suck it up; 2 (risky) attempt a sliced shot around the trees onto the fairway; and 3 (insane) go at the green through the trees. So I choose to slice a pitch onto the fairway. I was close to a tree, but not in my swing / ball path, and had a hole to shoot through two others. I lined up, set the ball back a little, and opened the face. One full swing later, the ball took flight. It head right towards the tree in my direct path. Just before it got to the tree, but just after it cleared the other one....it turned perfectly to the right and flew out to the fairway! It left me with a tough 3rd shot to reach the green....but I have never tracked GIR's until this year anyway!

I think playing to your misses is the way to go. Golf is a game of misses, so play your best....miss? lol

My take on the two issues are this: 1) Since the group has complained numerous times regarding his pace of play, the Officers need to address it. Granted, as an O yourself, I would bring it up to the Pres/Vice Pres about him being required to appologize to the whole group in addition to your appology to him. Be the better man and appologize. Just make sure the true point is made that no slow play will be allowed. 2) Removing his money from the skins pool after the round is played is stealing. Well to me at least. That should be an automatic ban.

I have the same length of tees (just bought them) to try out. The mark on them are considerably up the length (higher than 1/3 up). When you say you "put them in the ground as shallow as I can" do you have any guess as to how much tee you used?
