  1. heading out next week and have tee times at mcdowell and rancho mama. think we paid aroun 80-90 each
  2. hmm thanks. i just gave them a call and they are the news PSI irons. not sure where R13 came from
  3. Playing at a course in a few weeks and was planning on renting clubs, they said they have Ping G25 Irons as well as Taylormade R13 irons. Never heard of R13 irons and can't find anything online about them. Anybody have any ideas on what these are?
  4. the most frustrating thing to me on the golf course is when you shank a shot OB, then drop a ball and hit it perfectly. its called second shot golf and is so frustrating. That and finally getting one part of your game dialed in and another goes to sh*t
  5. The majority of the time i play with my dad and we gamble. We have an ongoing bet that if he bets me straight up i owe him a steak dinner (has happened once in 2+ years). Other than that we play $5 front 9, $5 for the back, $10 for the overall and i give him 2 a side plus an additional stroke on whichever side has the hardest hole. (so 5 strokes total.) We also play $1 for each of GIR (must make par or better) Sandies (must be for par or better) or holing out from off the green (must be for par or better). Think the most one of us won off the other was $11 or something. Just enough to keep it interesting and competive
  6. All the Pauite courses are great, I also played Rhodes Ranch or desert pines once and found them both very enjoyable. Bali High is gorgeous but IMO not worth the money. Lot of pretty courses in vegas with the mountains in the background and lots of desert
  7. can you elaborate one why not to play TPC scottsdale? A few minutes ago my dad went ahead and booked the stadium course for one day and the championship course for another (can obviously cancel) Any other courses you would reccomend? FWIW i think he booked it for ~$125 a person
  8. i saw someone had started a similar thread but i did not want to bog down his thread and derail it. Going to be out in Scottsdale next month and will be playing 1 or 2 rounds of golf. I looked on golf now and it looked like the cheapest rates were $125+? Where i am from usually a round with cart will run you $70-90 on a weekend. Are the prices i saw online accurate? Any cheaper golf courses worth playing? sidenote: opinions on renting clubs vs schlepping mine out there for 1-2 rounds of golf?
  9. Tiburon is also a great course. I just got back from a trip to naples and played, twin eagles, bonita bay, heritage bay, tiburon and quail creek and would recommend all of them. All in great shape as well
  10. Long story short: at the end of a "season" depending on what that is defined as, do golf courses sell their rental clubs? Long story long: i am fortunate enough to be able to play both in NY and in Florida. Now i am not good by any stretch of the imagination but i really enjoy the game and more importantly spending time with my dad. Currently I have a set up callaway X20s in NY (prob 3-4 years old) and a pair of old yonex blades that were hand me downs and are probably 20 years old. I used to like these Yonex clubs because they are graphite shafts and i hit the ball further, but as of late my swing has gotten worse and i do not have time to practice so ive decided its time to upgrade that set. What that means, is buying a new set for use in NY (i play about 70% of my rounds in NY) and then bring the callaway set down to florida. I was recently down in Florida and one of the courses i played i noticed had Taylormade RSi1 irons as their rental clubs. I rented these clubs once or twice last year when was on vacation elsewhere and absolutely loved these clubs. So i was wondering, at the end of the year/season what do golf courses do with their rentals? I would love to get a good deal on a set of the RSi1 irons. Is it a bad idea to buy used/rental clubs? Thanks
  11. thats a great suggestion thank you i will try that
  12. Anybody have any tips or drills for swinging "down" on the ball. I have a tendency to subconsciously try and lift the ball, and as a result i hit a very high ball or hit it thin a lot and have no distance. I know i need to drive through the ball or hit down on it and i am probably flipping it up. Anybody have a good drill to work on this? Thanks
  13. thats great to here thanks. My 3W arrived in florida yesterday at my parents and i will be giving it a go thursday after i land
  14. not to derail the thread, but can someone elaborate more about "flipping"? i think i do this too and as a result lose distance. I play with my dad who will be 60 next month and he is consistently using one less club than i am on any given shot (ie on a par 3 ill be using a 5i and hell be using a 6i). Him and i have both discussed that i hit a very high ball and lose distance as a result. if i should start my own thread on this let me know i have no problem doing that do not mean to derail this one. Thanks
