  1. I was in Hilton Head last week and played Hilton Head National, Arthur Hills, and RTJ. All were in similar solid condition although the greens were very sandy at National. I think I enjoyed the Hills layout the most, followed by RTJ then National. While RTJ has the Ocean Hole you also have several highway holes that run parallel to a very busy road that kind of takes away from the ambiance on the front side. It also has several holes on the front and back that run in the same direction, one after another. I think I could see 3-4 flags one behind another from the 12th/13th tee. Still a very solid course, I just liked the variety at Hills better. We found some great food spots that I figured I'd share: Lowcountry Backyard - great comfort food (fried green tomatoes, potato chip crusted meatloaf) and catch of the day specials One Hot Mama's - I think the owner is/was on the Food Network recently; some of the best wings I've had anywhere (try Hot Asian and Mustard BBQ) and a great bar Sea Shack - long line any time of day (30min - 1hr) but worth at least one visit for some great fresh seafood and sides
  2. Anyone else have trouble getting a good feel with the white hot faces? I loved it on the showroom and bought one at the beginning of the season - have never putted worse though. I've had one or two rounds where I'll drain putts from all over but for the most part it's been a nightmare on the greens. Going to take my XG #2 out of the bag this weekend.
  3. I'm setting up pairings for a two-man best ball and wanted to get some thoughts on pairing strategy. My team is pretty evenly distributed among the following handicap buckets: 1: 0-5 2: 5-10 3: 10-15 4: 15-20 Would you typically try to match 1's with 4's and 2's with 3's?
  4. oo, Whoops!
  5. http://www.golfweb.com/tournaments/r.../story/9639937 Is this guy drain dead? He may have just done the US a HUGE favor.
  6. I've tried the Heavenwood and G5 hybrids and just can't get comfortable with them, just seems weird having such a small, light head on a wood's shaft (I think the whole thing is just too light for me). I've got a 9.5* Fusion driver, 15* Fusion 3W, and a 19* mock Tight lies 5 wood which have worked really nice for me.
  7. Thanks I'll work on that -- we have an area where I can practice these shots at a local driving range.
  8. Would an item like this serve me well if I could get it for under $200: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd;=1 Or am I better off ponying up for the 1500? This one looks portable and I'm sure it's accurate but is it cheaper b/c it will be more difficult to steady?
  9. I get up and down at a high percentage from tight lies but I really struggle when my ball ends up sitting in the short fluffy rough that is outside the "fairway cut". I've tried two different approaches: 1 - Use my 60* wedge and play it like a chip shot. This almost never works as I either get a big clump of grass b/t club and ball, or I nearly go right under it. Either way the ball ends up just a few feet ahead of me. 2 - Use my pitching wedge and play it like a chip shot. I have had a bit more success with this but it is hard to judge distance, esp. since I can't put any spin on from this lie. Seems like anytime I try this the ball flies well past my target. Should I try playing this like a bunker shot and just blast out of there? What works for you guys?
  10. 40-44..Had a double and 2 triples on the back nine (got into some trouble hitting the driver on holes I shouldn't have). Finished even over the last 4 holes though including a nice 15ft curling putt on 18 for birdie to salvage a decent round.
  11. 60* Cleveland CG10 lob wedge
  12. 155 is stock?? How does he hit it 178 out of the rough with it then? And how the hell does he hit a cut 5-wood 267?? These guys play a different game.
  13. I did almost throw up when he hit that 8 iron to 5 feet on the 196yd par 3, unbelievable. I'm assuming there was a bit of an elevation drop and that he was able to hit it high and ride the wind -- how far do you think he hits an 8 Iron with no elevation change and no wind from the center of the fairway?
  14. From most recent to oldest: Round 1: 81, 31 putts (0 3-putts, 5 1-putts) Round 2: 85, 33 putts (1 3-putt, 4 1-putts) Round 3: 86, 33 putts (0 3-putts, 5 1-putts) Round 4: 97, 32 putts (1 3-putt, 5 1-putts) I've done a nice job of avoiding 3 putts and had some great lags during my most recent round. If I can just drop a few more of those ten foot par putts that I leave myself after mediocre chips (or just improve the short game!) I think I can break 30.
  15. Makes sense -- I bet Steve Williams isn't helping anyone out though! Thanks Eric.
  16. I've always gone somewhere between 3/4 and parallel and not "bothered" to employ the additional wrist cock/shoulder turn necessary to get to parallel. I'm probably sacrificing some yardage but I still drive it around 275. Anytime I try to go parallel I end up hitting a terrible slice, I think my hands just aren't fast enough to release in time from that position. I think the shorter swing has served me well inside 150yds. (less margin for error) or so but I am always curious as to what kind of additional yardage I could gain off the tee if I put some time into figuring out how to make it work.
  17. How old are you (ballpark is fine, I just think your answers will be a little more helpful if we have an idea)?
  18. How do they know what iron these guys are hitting? Do the caddies give them a signal (if so, what kind of signals do they use?)? Do they use binoculars?
  19. That is the shaft I have in my FT3
  20. It's going to be a lot of fun tomorrow, has Tiger ever had to make a bunch of birdies in the final round to win a major (maybe the Bob May showdown?)? I think he will have to tomorrow, I expect either Donald, Weir, or Ogilvie to shoot a 66 or 67 to really make it interesting.
  21. The final hurdle I need to overcome to take my game to the next level is bringing my range driver swing to the course. I was hitting some beautiful drives the other day with my new FT3 at the range but sprayed it at the course today. I think I need to warmup before my rounds now that I have a driver (never owned one before Wednesday).
  22. Played the same nine holes twice...shot a 43 the first time around, and a 38 the second time. This is the first time I have broken 40! I needed a par on the ninth hole (a 470 yard par 5 with a sharp dogleg left). I wiped my tee shot through some trees and into the next fairway then took an 8 iron over the trees to leave myself 200 yds. from light rough. I hit the best 4 iron shot of my life, 2 feet from the pin for an easy birdie!
  23. It was just awkward as hell, what was he thinking?
  24. Just gotta slow it down on the backswing with that driver
  25. I just picked it up for PS2 and I love it. The PS2 and XBOX versions have new expanded playbooks which are awesome. Lots of really cool triple options with the WRs. The gameplay isn't as good as Madden but I prefer the college game in real life and the makers of NCAA do a great job.
