  1. Whatever works, no offense intended.
  2. I am getting some really great responses here. I have to say, I agree that the range is dead boring, but it really does help for working kinks out of your swing. I much prefer a round of golf to a 2 hr session at the range. As a side note, I work for a golf resort so I don't pay any fees for hitting range balls and I pay absolutely nothing to play the courses, not even a cart fee, but the courses I play are so beautiful that it is hard to forego a round to wack 100 balls on the range. The biggest problem I have is paying for a round and blowing my first tee shot out my ass, then the rest of the round is hard to recover mentally. I also want to mention that when I play a practice round, the course looks better when I am finished because I repair every divot and ball mark I can, not just mine. So I don't beat up my courses because I love them!
  3. I only have my HCI in my profile to give everyone an idea of how I shoot. I have never actually logged a handicap, and all my rounds are practice. Until I consistently break 110, I will always be practicing.
  4. That's what I thought. Maybe it's just me being stupid. I have always liked things to match, but I seriously love the odd duck 588.
  5. I know this is the wrong thing to focus on, but how can you swing without shoes? I have to wear tennisshoes at least. Another thing, I realize I have a high handicap, but I notice that you pull the club up instead of back. Your swing very closely resembles a low baseball swing.
  6. I just ordered my set. Can't wait to put'em on!! Thanks for the link.
  7. Any golf shop employee who makes you feel foolish needs to be reminded that he is not Tiger and that you are paying him. If you want your freaking ball retriever fitted, then the jackass should offer to regrip it for you. My local golfshop is great, the guy genuinely cares about golf and makes me feel like he cares about my game.
  8. I am pretty anal about how my clubs go in my bag too. They all have a spot(I chose my bag based on this) and I inventory them at least every 9, sometimes after a hole. I have only ever misplaced one club and I had accidentally placed it in my friends bag. In my defense, that was the first round I had played with my new bag and the bag he was using was my old one!
  9. I have all cleveland TA wedges as you can see in my signature, but my Sand wedge is a 588 while the other two are 900. The differences seem to be that the 588 is bigger and has a larger sole, while the 900's are a little smaller and have a bevel on the backside of the sole(I assume this is a reduction in bounce). Does it matter or do I need to match the 900s with a 56*?
  10. I have cleveland wedges, but my 56 doesn't match the Gap and Lob. Is that a big deal?
  11. That is perfect!
  12. Dude, I have a hard time judging distance with a 60*, I didn't think an 80* was possible!
  13. I really like this idea, I think I will try it the next time I hit the range. I never thought of hitting a drive and then moving to the next shot. I always just worked on trouble clubs and hit 20 balls or so and moved on to the next.
  14. I am having trouble with how to practice. Every time I hit the range, I have no goal for each shot, I just see if I can hit it straight. When I go out on the course, it is hard for me to forget the score and just practice. What should I do?
  15. Sweet, I will check that out. I need to make all my grips the same. Right now I have the stock titleist grips on my driver and wood, tour wraps on my irons, tour velvets on two of my wedges, and a winn dual compound on my 60*. That makes for a very inconsistent feel from teebox to approach.
  16. I have been thinking about getting a new putter, what is the major difference between mallet and blade putters? feel?
  17. Verticut greens maintenance is designed to strengthen the turf to allow for a more consistent putting surface, and a byproduct is speed because the green is smoothed out as a result of removing lateral growth. Check out this page on verticutting, it is very informative. http://www.golfdom.com/golfdom/Featu...e/detail/93306
  18. I do intend on regripping them myself, and I already have a vice, so I just need to buy a rubber adapter for it and I think I am go for launch. I think I will stick with the tour wraps, the velvets seem to deteriorate a little faster and turn your hands black sooner, so I want to get more for my money.
  19. Thanks to all for the great posts. I really was pleased with the last shot, though I didn't realize it until I told my wife and got the "wow" I needed. I am a very competitive person and I don't have the best amount of patience. This game has done wonders for that level of patience though, so I think there is hope. I have only been playing for about 10 months so I know I am a ways away from the score I desire. I don't have aspirations of going pro, I just want to have fun. This forum has really helped make the game fun, it is nice to know I am not the only one having a hard time with this game.
  20. I used to hate when people said stuff like this, but you are totally right. It is never the course's fault that you can't stick a shot. If it runs forever, slow it down a bit. After the first nine you should be adjusted to how the greens are, sucky or not.
  21. I think I actually AM getting worse!! I have to be honest, 120 is normal for me, but today I had to have broken 200. I didn't think this was possible, even when I was just starting out, but I couldn't hit anything at all. I normally have decent irons and good wedges, and my drives are what kill me, but I kept screwing everything up. I started to slice on one hole, use the same swing to play the slice on the next hole and it hooks!!! What am I doing wrong?!?!?! My only consolation is that on the last hole, I stuck my gap wedge for a sweet 90 yd chip right on the green and two putted. I didn't have a single sweet chip or pitch the entire round until that. I think I was just tired and not focusing on my mechanics at all. Is it normal to slump even before you break 100?
  22. With my experience, yes. I am not a pro by any means, but I do have a problem hitting the ball higher than I do far, so when I notice this I always see that my hands are too far back at address.
  23. I have to agree, Maxfli balls all tend to suck. I really like the Dunlop DDH distance balls. They are cheap and have low spin, something a high handicapper like me needs. The tend to fly pretty far too. The only Maxfli product I like is their bags. I love my Maxfli Cart bag, but thats where it ends.
  24. go to youtube and search motodrummer35 or golf ball slices into house. That is my profile and the one video I have uploaded. It is a 3 wood swing from the hill below the ladies tees begause I topped it with my driver from the whites. This was months ago, but my swing has not changed much.
  25. Thanks for all the tips guys! I will try them out. I have to admit that I have noticed a little slippage with the wrap style grips. A long session at the driving range saw me launch my 5 wood farther than the ball it hit. Of course, a wet cheap glove contributed there, I have since switched to Footjoy Weathersof cadet gloves, and haven't helicoptered a club since.
