  1. I setup at the heel. Now if I could just hit it like Luke Donald.
  2. I just love my r7 460. My main problem is inconsistency and this driver has me in the fairway more often than any other I've tried (oh and as a special bonus it goes farther too....SWEET). Elvis
  3. Redskins. I've always been a Redskins fan and always will be. Of course it would be a lot easier to be a Redskins fan if they would show up for a friggin game this season. They have mailed in the game the last 6 weeks (including an embarrassing loss to a weak Cowboys team). At this point, I'm just hoping for a repeat of last season where our talent level (which is pretty decent) takes over the second half of the season and get us into the playoffs. We obviously have depth problems as having Portis and Springs out have killed the backfield on both sides of the ball. Anyway, I love football. I still play competitive flag football, love my Redskins, play fantasy football, etc. etc. Oh and I hate the Cowboys and Giants.
  4. I had always used inexpensive putters until I bought a 2-ball putter last year. Before that, I was using an old Ping Anser that I bought used. I was happy with the Anser but after seeing quite a few of my friends use the 2-ball putter and trying it out, I decided to spend the extra money on a putter. For me, I was able to justify the extra expense not just based on feel or confidence but on the simple logic that using that alignment system helped to remove one of the variables from my putting. My putting improved as a result. Now if I can just get better at distance control!!! Elvis
  5. I agree with what golfchief and Xt1ncT, it'll be cost effective to find clubs on ebay that are a couple of years old and go from there. That's what I did a few years ago when I purchased a nearly new set of Taylor Made 360 irons. My game has yet to improve beyond these irons and I'm really glad that I didn't spend big $$ on the clubs. Of course, I look forward to the day when I need a good set of custom fitted irons Elvis
  6. As a life long Redskins fan (yes, I know we suck right now) and a life long Reds fan (yes, I know we suck right now), I like hearing Thiesman and Joe Morgan talk about the good ol days. LOL, the rest of you haters just have to suck it up I actually have a picture of me, one of my friends and JoeT in my house from when JoeT played in a celebrity golf tournament at Duke. We met and hung out with Joe's wife for a while that day while he played. She was a very nice woman (and she asked Joe to take the picture with a couple of Redskins fans). BTW, just for the record...JoeT is a pretty bad football announcer! Elvis
  7. I was hoping you'd post after hitting your new driver. I recently upgraded to an r7 460 as well and pretty much had the same reaction you have. If I hit a bad drive with this club...I've really screwed something up. It's very forgiving which is what I was looking for. The extra distance is a very nice bonus but it turns out that playing out of the fairway is more effective then playing out of the rough/trees/pine-needles. Go figure. I love my r7 460. Hope you have good luck with it on the course.
  8. I bought the R7 460 recently and like yourself I'm a high handicapper (which is a nice way of saying I suck). All I can say is that my last 2 rounds with this driver and with my new TM hybrid were my 2 low scores for the year including my lowest score ever (and 83) and the lowest score I've had in about a year. For me the club is long and forgiving. It's so nice to play out of the fairway and closer to the green. I replace a TM 320 which I hit about 210. In all fairness, my chipping generally sucks and I've finally found a comfortable chipping stroke so that helped alot. At the same time, I say buy the 460. Heck part of the fun of this whole addiction is hitting new sticks!
  9. I'd go with Taylor Made. Most of the clubs in my bag are TM and I just bought an R7 460 and a TM Dual Hybrid (the hybrid was free). My irons and wedges are already TM. Basically the only things that are not TM are my fairway woods, which are really old Cobras (I love my old steel cobra 7-wood circa 1995), and my 2-ball putter. For ME when I have shopped for clubs, when I find what feels right I always seem to have a TM in my hand. I suck at golf and I like TM. I wonder if that's a trend. I'd like to see if, in general, the better players prefer Titleist and those of us that suck prefer TM (and I picked those 2 because of perception and the fact that they have the most votes in the poll and seem to have generated the most discussion). Elvis - 2:04 tee time today
  10. If you want to hear from high handicappers then I'll chime in. Two weeks ago I bought an R7 460. I've been to the range and I played 18 this past Sunday (at The Neuse in Clayton, NC). My ball flight with my driver has always been mostly left to right. I set the 460 up for a draw bias and the ball goes pretty straight for me. In fact, I missed a handful of fairways left because my alignment habits have be compensating for the fade. So if you are going to go out and try a driver, give the R7 460 a try, I really like mine. Two of my friends hit it on Sunday as well. They were very impressed including one friend that loves his R7 Quad.
  11. Cool, I also have the TM 360 irons. I think they are great even if they are getting old. Golf equipment is a funny thing because what you need and what you want aren't always the same thing. For me, part of the fun is getting new sticks to hit. Really, I needed to buy that TM R7 460 10 days ago! At the same time, my 3, 5, 7 woods are 10 year old Cobras. I've been thru all of this same sort of thing with softball bats (although I've had the same glove since 1996). It's actually refreshing to see that golfers are stick ho's just like softball players (can you tell I'm new around here...I'm more used to reading softball forums)
  12. I played my first round yesterday with my R7 460. My previous driver was a TM 320. That's also quite a difference. I got over it pretty quickly, however as I hit drives longer and straighter than I have in the past. For me the biggest thing I had to get used to was the longer tees and teeing the ball higher. Visually, that was more challenging than the driver size. I'm willing to guess that once you buy a larger driver and hit it a bit, it'll become normal since you will then be used to the look of it. I really like hitting the ball longer and straighter
  13. Mine stay in my trunk as well. I tend to have impromptu trips to the course and/or range. Most of the time when I hit the range it's on the way home from work and unplanned. I'm a little surprised at the responses here (and impressed by how much you guys care about your sticks). Not only do I keep my sticks in my trunk, all of my friends do as well.
  14. Thanks, I needed that. I really think I'm going to enjoy using the hybrid and as I was hitting the different clubs, I was really hoping the #5 (25*) that I ended up buying would have the least overlap with my 7 wood because I really liked the way it felt and hit. Now if it'll just get below 100* here so I can go out and play. BTW, I noticed that you listed Tabacco Road as your "travel course", that's a nice, tough, interesting course
  15. I took the buy one get one deal. On Friday, I bought an R7 460 and received a Rescue Dual #5 for free. I like the higher lofted hybrids and have been trying these out for a few months. I've hit lots of hybrids in shops and some friends on the courses and the hybrids that consistently felt the best to me were the TM Rescue Dual. My driver was an older TM 320 which I used to hit straight and could use updating anyway so the deal seem "Taylor Made" for my needs. I have a 7 and 5 wood that I'm happy with and a 3-wood I don't hit very well so I had to decide between a 3 wood or a hybrid. After hitting both, I liked the hybrid better and I think that I'll use it more (if I'm far enough away to use a 3-wood, I'm laying up...I'm not good a this game and don't need that kind of trouble ). I hit the #3, #4 and #5 hybrids in a simulator along with my 7-wood and bought the hybrid that didn't overlap in distance with my 7 wood. The #4 was really close in distance and with my game, I thought I'd use the #5 more than the #3. If I end up loving it, I can see me going back and purchasing a #3 hybrid. As for the money, if I keep the clubs I got an OK deal. If I don't like one of the clubs and have to sell it, I shouldn't be out too much. I can't wait to play later this week and I'll be hitting the range tonight! (BTW, this is my first post around here, nice site you got here)
